you actually played the most bugged vehicle in the patch... the depression is screwed (should be -12, but as you can see in the hangar, the 0 is at like 10° up); the suspensione seem to ignore the phisic, and also are not animated; andi'm preatty shure the reload too is wrong... when the long reload 47mm had like 5 sec reload, and the late M13 one is 3ish seconds, and the vehicle was built after the M13 series

Hey Phly, to answer your Question L40 describes the tank. The actual name is the Semovente L. 40 da 47/32 and was based off the chassis of the Italian L6/40 Light Tank. L stands for Light and the 40 is the year of production (1940).

"I'm sorry! I cannot kill a Matilda with this tank!" ~ Every single Italian tanker in North Africa. loool
Except the tankers of any tank destroyer that came after the 47/32 L40.
Let's also remember that italy already by 1941 used HEAT and HESH rounds.
Actually the L6/40 and derivates had been used almost exclusively on the eastern front. The Semovente 75 had been used in N. Africa, and it made the Matilda obsolete.
"we did alot of damage there"
Like dude. You cracked their glass.
I think that was a joke
13:25 Funny enough those things fought against Matilda, with a predictable outcome
Every time Italian forces fought, the result was predictable lul
Really not. The L6/40 and derivates had been used almost exclusively on the eastern front.
In general, when a light tank faces a medium or an heavy one, usually the result is predictable. When the Brits sent their Light Tanks MK IV to face the Italian M13/40 (and we are not talking of the best medium tanks of the war) they had been slaughtered.
That's not True, the 47/32 fought against Cruisers and crusaders MK1, Matildas were usually fighting against Ansaldo M41s and they performed so bad against them that the British High Command told them to avoid the engagement since their cannon could not penetrate the front of an M41 while the M41 with the 75mm gun could easily penetrate them from a mile away with HEAT Rounds.

To be honest, as far as my un-tank design trained eyes can tell, that suspension system is horrific.
Look at the front section. The mounting bracket for the first set of bogies is positioned ahead of the fighting compartment meanwhile the bogies that will bare that weight are placed way behind! Do the Italians not accept Galileo’s own work on leavers and turning effects?!
And to make matters worse, the track ahead of the fighting compartment isn’t in constant contact with the ground. Every time the vehicle breaks it simply rocks up onto that sloped section and then the stupid suspension mounting point means the tank bounces all say long...
Like a rocking chair for distressed Italian tankers.
If it is this terrible blame it on every country which had tanks, *_everyone_* used this design at one point.
yeah....horrible design
being a designer must've not come with a diploma back in the days
TheOtakuComrade
Notice this thing, at least in WT, doesn’t have the stiffening bars most Carden-Loyd susoension systems ended up having to use.
The bar connected the front and rear bogies to counteract such bouncing.
And the original Carden-Loyd carrier was little more than a tracked scout car with Vickers machine gun - a lot lighter than this thing with 30mm of armour, 47mm gun and ammunition.
@@doktork3406 Because back then diplomas they would laugh at you and ask what am I supposed to do with this wipe my ass, You learnt on the job and that went on for many years up until not that long ago really I would say up until the early 80,s, I remember applying for jobs when I was 13 at machine shops at the railway, I got hired when I was 14 to be a machinist and the boss himself told me to just put that I was 16 because back then you had to be 16 to legally work in an industrial place, And he would hire somebody with no education or that knew nothing over some 1 that had a diploma, his reason was because he could teach you the right way and his way instead of some 1 that had a diploma and saying well I read and was taught this is how you do it and I could not count how many different jobs I seen that happen and the person getting the boot before he could even get the whole I learnt it in the book this way get the boot.
the raised front track system was to help it with the terrain it would be in. and the suspension was bugged that early on. along with the depression for the gun.
L40 is because it is based on the chassis of the l6/40. WW2 italian tanks nomenclature was as it follows: L M and P stand for Leggero (light), Medio (medium) and Pesante (Heavy) the first number stands for the weight of the tank, the second one for the year it entered service. For tank destroyers the year number does not necessarily gives us the actual year of the vehicle, but just the chassis of the tank from which they were designed, while the first number is the tipe of the gun. Also the m42 conteaereo (antiair) is called like this because it is based on the m15/42

L40 is Leggero 1940. light tank of 1940.
47/32 refers to the caliber and length of the weapon, respectively.
from the wikipedia article for the tank chassis it is based on:
"The official Italian designation was Carro Armato ("armored tank") L6/40. This designation means: "L" for Leggero (Italian: "light"), followed by the weight in tons (6) and the year of adoption (1940). "

attempt 4
47 (47mm)
32 (original barrel length of 32 calibers)
L40 (updated barrel length of 40 calibers)
Calibers in terms of measuring barrel length is found by the number of round balls that are the size of the bore and go from breech to muzzle. So, it would take 40 47mm (1.85in) round balls to equal the barrel length.
A few examples:
A 10.3in barrel in .223 Remington would be L46 in calibers, a 14.5in barrel would be L65 in calibers, and a 20in barrel would be L89 in calibers.
One last example:
8 divided by 0.355 (the diameter of .38 Special and .357 Magnum) equals 22.5. It would take 22 and a half .355 caliber balls to equal 8 inches in length. 0.451 (the diameter of .45 ACP) multiplied by 11.1 equals 5.

Ok Phly, I don't know if you'll read this but here I go: 47 is the caliber of the gun in mm, 32 is the lenght of the gun in calibers, L stands for "Leggero" (Light in italian) and 40 is the year of adoption (1940). The real designation of that SPG is different from the one in-game but I won't bother you with that, enough italian for today :).
It should be the bouncy boi
Phly, I noticed that you didn't look at, or use the Granata Perforante Mod.39 shell, but it has much better impact characteristics. It does much better against angled armor, as well as retaining greater penetration at longer ranges.
Hey Phly! I was hoping you could bring attention to a fault that has slipped by this patch. It is affecting heli Rb greatly, Helicopters that received Air to Air Missiles this patch have been ruining heli Rb lately, there are no countermeasures for lower BR helis against AAMs or can helis evade AAMs and as a result, they can be sniped across the map by helis with AAMs. It seems like Gaijin over looked this and heli Rb is pretty much unplayable if you don't have a heli with countermeasures. Hopefully this comment is seen by you and others!
47/32 L40 refers to the 47mm and its 32 calibers of lengh (47mmx32), L40 because the tank it derivates from was the L6/40, L stands for "Leggero", Light, 40 for 1940.
And on all the sources I've seen, except for the english wikipedia page, the L6/40's front armour is about 40/42mm in thickness.
After watching David Fletcher's "Bottom 5 Foreign Tanks", I learned this whole series of vehicles uses the suspension from the Camden-Lloyd carrier, which is about as bad as it comes apparently lol. Fletcher described it as useless for anything other than flat roads.
well, they worked well enough for what they were, machinegun carriers, artillery tracktors and scout vehicles, and aparently a good number of vehicles were based around it . But from what i read in the comunity the suspension isn't working at all and the warthunder engine also does its magic on it.
It's squeeze bore 47mm to 32 mm and L40 is for the efective lenght of barrel in calibers.
47/32 L40 = 47mm model 1932 40 caliber in length
Nope. 47 mm 32 caliber length tank model 1940.
@@thefirstprimariscatosicari6870 Yup, people forget these aren't the Germans lol
@@thefirstprimariscatosicari6870 To be precise, its 47 mm 32 caliber lenght / L=Light tank model 1940
the gun is 47/32 = 47mm/L32. but with L40 at the end, it would suggest it's the gun. Italy had a 47/L40 gun at that time.

L40 answer for "Leggera 40", The first word means "Light", while the 40 is the year it went into production (1940)
L = Leggero (light) 40 = year of production / 47 = 47mm gun (based on the L6/40 light tank, the 6 is for 6 tonnes) this one is the Semovente
It appears as though the problem with suspension may be their modeling. The wheels seem to be completely disconnected from the bogey systems and basically just floating on the track giving no real effect to suspension. Basically the track itself is all that's doing work so all your suspension is based on it's flexibility.
L40 is maybe the chassis. The Landsverk swedish heavy machinery and tank manufacturer had an "L" series.

One shot one kill.....and that's just the way the breech hits the gunner in the face every time he squeezes the trigger....
L40 means light tank put into service in 1940. The naming convention is L = light P= medium followed by first service year.
Explosive Mass does not help you with buged vehicles as the hellcat. even the 90mm with its 520g of TNT Filler can't oneshot the hellcat from the side, even when the shell does detonate correct.
I love it when you use replays to check something
Phly, the L40 is the chassis, which is the same of the L6/40 the light tank. Basically italian tank names are type of tank+number/year of production. For example L6/40 means Light 6 from 1940.
Whilst italian spgs names are gun caliber/length of the barrel+chassis type. For example 75/18 M41 is an spg with the M14/41 chassis using a 75mm gun, long 18 calibers.
I know it's really confusing.
For completeness, L6/40 means that's a light tank that weighted 6 tons and was adoped in 1940.
Just FYI Sir David Fletcher of the Bovington Tank Museum listed this series of tankettes in his top 5 worst tanks and the reason was the armor and...yes the suspension. It was based on the Carden Loyd tankette of 1926 and was horribly out of date before the war even started.
L40 in the length of the barrel in caliber, so 47mm times 40= 1880mm.
1880mm is the barrel length
like the Tiger II 8.8 cm KwK 43 L/71 is 6.2m long (6248mm)
Hey Phly, I think there might be a bug involved with the ready racks. We all know your reload gets worse once your ready rack is empty. But I recently found out that you can always have the short reload as long as you switch ammo. For that reason, please play the Chi-Ri II (it works with all tanks that have a ready rack, but the Chi-Ri has the smallest ready rack). Take as many AP as you want and one single HE shell. As soon as you fire, switch to HE and instantly back to AP. You will always have the fast reload.
L means Light and 40 is the date it was produced
it was mentioned in the museums that this type of vehicle was terrible with its suspension. There are stories of soldiers almost being thrown out of the vehicle because they stopped too fast.
In fact, if the Italian's guns are related to the german's, the L40 means that the gun's length is 40 times the shell caliber
About the suspension Phly, if you look the moments you are on the move or stoping while looking at its side, you can see that the wheels are not attached to the suspension. This tank is buged.
those suspensions that we made is because we eat a lot of pasta and it help us to our digestion during the fight
HI FROM ITALY!! 🇮🇹
The tank name is actually "Semovente L40 da 47/32". "Semovente" means "self-propelled". The "L40" means that is the tank chassis that it was converted from. Which is the L6/40 light tank. And the "47/32" is the anti-tank gun that it carries. Which is the "Cannone da 47/32". "47" is the caliber (47mm) and the "32" is the gun's barrel length (L/32).
All of the Italian tank destroyers are named in the same way. For example, the TD named "75/34 M42" is actually called "Semovente M42 da 75/34." M42 is from the M15/42 medium tank chassis and the 75/34 is the "75mm L/34 tank gun" which is also used by the P26/40 heavy tank.
I dunno Steve, by looking at that bracket holding the two boggey wheels, the way it curves forwads and downwards before bolting on the hull, that rocking makes sense to me
Don't know if anyone ever answered the question about what the gun designations mean but as far as I know the Italians used the unusual method of first number the gun caliber, second number the length of barrel by multiples of that caliber.
So 47/32 is
47mmx1504mm (47x32)
As an example the gun they have that's similar to the German flak 36 88mm is the cannone 90/53.
That would be
90mmx4770mm (90x53)
Hope that helps anyone who was wondering 😆
