As a lifelong North Melbourne fan, I just want to congratulate Johnny Longmire on not only the joy that he brought us fans, but mainly for what he's achieved with Sydney. A lot of his former teammates never expected him to become a senior coach, but here we are. What he's done is remarkable. Sad, but proud day.
As a supporter, we value and remember the small things. Especially when you’re a kid. In 1993, I was a 9 year old kid obsessed with Footy. My folks and I were in Lygon Street and I saw John sitting with a couple of North players. I nervously went up to him to say hi and he gave me the time of day, he also made a funny comment about me being a Blues fan and was genuine in asking me some questions about me and my footy. He was an absolute superstar player at the time, and for him to be this nice to a kid was something I never forgot. This is a huge reflection of the person he is.
I really appreciate getting to see this. An absolute Swans legend.
More than just a coach... more than just a coach with one of the best winning records in history (6th best ever). An ambassador of football in NSW and the whole football community. Now we get to realise just how perfect he was in succeeding the great Paul Roos. The Swans are in the best shape they've ever been in, and even though we didn't take the chocolates this year, we just about tick every other box for ultimate success in the years to come. Thanks Horse for your incredible investment into this great club. As a passionate supporter, I'll forever be grateful for everything you contributed to the club throughout your reign. You have set the bar extremely high for what it means to be a great coach... Over to you Coxy! Let's go one better next year.
Swans won't make the 8. Bedwetters.
John Longmire, scraping the bottom of the barrel. Saw him at the Salamanca markets in 2015, cut the line in front of me at a cafe for coffee. Total flog.
@@nathand4500 Takes one to know one, right? Yet here you are, commenting the same tired comment over and over and over again like the clever little boy you are. Well done you!
Not g f bad chokers were have you been
From a North fan, John was my favourite playing growing up. I got to meet him in the early 90's when he came to our local Kmart as for a handball competition and I turned up with the number 35 on my back, probably at the age of 6 or 7. He was gracious enough to stay back for a 1-on-1 chat after.
I'm glad he isn't afraid to show emotion, I'm not going to lie, I cried in 1996 when he missed the GF through injury and then cried tears of joy in 1999 seeing him receive his Premiership medal. I was also super proud when he coached the Swans to a flag in 2012. Sad to see you finish up but congratulations on an amazing playing and coaching career John
Great coach. Even greater person.
I'm not a Sydney supporter but what a beautiful speech 😢
What a class act...humility, straight to the point...can see why Swans have been a solid team for so long now 👏
Just a real tear jerking speech and an honourable man .. thanks John 👍🏻
Amazing speech...I got through only 2-3 minutes before losing it. So much love and respect for this man. ❤❤❤
What a great insight to one man's journey, a great player, brilliant coach and most of all a fantastic team player throughout all levels of his career. To know there is great men like John Longmire out there guiding some of our young Aussie boys into young men with character is one of his greatest achievements that he will be remembered for, way into his future and beyond. Thanks Horse for all your efforts.
Congrats John 🐎
Bloody Great Human , All The Best 👍🏿
Finals 12 out of 14 years. 5 Grand Finals.
A coach's job is to put their team in a position to win... and you did that.
You helped steer us to another trophy... 1 of the 5 in our 150 history.
You were a great coach... and I thank you for your service to the team, the players and the fans.
Congrats on a great career Horse.
Enjoy your new found spare time.

John, you did a great job as a coach and as an ambassador. You brought me to tears with your speech.
am a Power fan but love Johnny Longmire's attitude. Your team has been Port's nemesis for years. A very classy speech. Best wishes John
Horse will go down as a brilliant coach who did so much for the Swans despite his GF record. Legend of the game. Well done John.
I can't stand sydney as a team ( west coast supporter ) but that speech by longmire was a tear jerker. He's a great coach and you can hear in his voice how much he loves the club. All the best for the future John.
Absolute class ! Well done John !!
What a man! Congratulations John. Unreal 👍🏼
But, real__
Thank you.. 👍👍👍🏉
Have followed John since our school days. A great guy, and a great coach. Good luck with the journey forward John!

A really nice guy. All the best for the future. Thanks for all the memories as a match winner for North Melbourne.
Was involved in a small lunch involving John L & Barry Hall....both were terrific....John was an assistant at the time.....but was far more down to earth & personable than I ever expected him to be.....I sat just opposite him, and chatted with him through lunch - I came away certain he would make a great coach....and I've met others of a similar nature, that I didnt get the same vibe from.
What a legend, what a speech , thanks for everything you've done for this club John, you will be sadly missed as a coach. All the best for your future 🙌 👏 ❤ 🤍💯
Do you think he will be missed three grandfinal loses in a row glad its gone
What a class act !
Thank you, John. Youve been a wonderful coach for us since 2002. mjr Tokyo. Thank you.
You will be missed. Thank you for everything, Horse. Supported the Swans from way back in the day, and what you have done for our club, will never be forgotten. Good luck in your new life away from footy.

Bloody awesome Horse, enjoyed watching your success with Sydney, a big thumbs up from a North supporter, great memories of you as a player in the royal blue and white, well done indeed....
Dave
As a Hawthorn supporter I’ve always admired Longmire - job well done!
Whilst Horse played for North Melbourne, he will always be a STAR of the Sydney Swans!
Absolute champion.
Bombers fan always in awe of the Swans and there winning culture Horse was a great coach a great servant to the game will go down as one of the greatest coaches. All the best go well enjoy your retirement👍🏽
Good on you, John. Outstanding person. Great coach. All the best mate, from an Eagles supporter.
The video is hard to watch because of the moving camera. A wide shot of the room with Horse pacing up and down while giving this epic speech would have been something special.
Better just to close your eyes and listen to the audio. Really heartfelt from a great bloke. Well done mate
Champion bloke, we've been lucky to have him. So glad he'll still be part of the club. Go well Horse, enjoy life.
Thank you Horse ❤🤍
Class act, Sir
A class act.
And this is why it’s a strong club with a largely winning culture. Quality people running it.
Great career legend
What a great man indeed ❤
Thanks for the memories Horse! I'll never forget the 2012 grand final when Malceski kicked that goal ive never screamed so loud in my life! I had also never screamed FUARK! So loud in my life when it was the 2016 grand final and heard "BOYDS KICKED THE GOAL, BOYDS KICKED THE GOAL FROM INSIDE THE SQUARE, FUARK! I CANT BELIEVE IT" on Triple M that afternoon. Enjoy a drink from the trough and put your hooves up Horse thanks for being a great coach

Hahaha thats so good @@nathand4500
@@nathand4500 he obviously realized what a deplorable waste of space, window licking oxygen thief you were & treated you with the contempt you thoroughly deserved.
@@nathand4500 I hope you had concrete in your coffee because you need to harden the FUARK up!
A privilege to see this. Horse left on his own terms . The grand final losses hurt but under him they made 5. And all but two years the eight. I also follow the West Tigers and we have three consecutive spoons so that’s real disappointment. A very decent man who will remain a Swans legend.
Great servant of the club. Walked away when the club went strong. Much respect
Not a swans fan but he’s a true professional, deserved another premiership.
From a household full of Hawk fans, you have been way to good a coach for the Swans, best of luck for the future. Cheers!
Well played John. Great speech. Hopefully see you around the Ovens & Murray one day at a sportsman's night. Cats fan.
elite!
good onya Longers
Saints fan here. Fabulous speech. Great tenure. Be very surprised if he doesn't end up somewhere else one day - too good not to coach.
Love your work John and thank you for your service to Swans been great to watch!
What a brilliant coach and even better man up the bloods
👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
This is too much.... Horse is an absolute champion
Legend
Sydney lucky to have ya for that long, on ya horse 🎉
Longmire on top
Well done John what a great coaching career all the very best in what ever you choose to done in the years to come would love to see you as part of the team at North all the best a true gentleman a loss to the AFL coaches.
None better than this fella ,coach and person alike and has left a great legacy and will be sadly missed in the football side of things but wont be lost to the club , travel well old son 👍🙂
Up the Horse! A Shinboner champion, Horse at one end, the King in between, big Mckernan slicing & Martyn at the other, boom boom - never forget being at Waverley that day vs Pies & about to witness 100 goals & get to run on the ground….but it was laces out didn’t happen, stuck on 98 🤦🏼♂️ still went wow, cmon north Melbourne! Well done Horse for all you’ve achieved at the Swans, what you’ve developed, & the legacy you’ve left. Awesome, honest & moving goodbye, this group are losing their Maximus, lucky to have you. Go North & kudos Swannies👍
I found that gut wrecking. I played junior cricket and football against John in Corowa. Let me tell you at 15 he had a man's body. But he also had a great temperament. He could of done anything, cricket, athletes, swimming etc. At 16 kicking 80 odd goals in the. Ovens and Murray league is unbelievable. We are not talking about a shit kicker league here. All through his afl career he had set backs. Could of kicked a 100 but for his inaccuracy, I remember where I was, listening to abc and hoping. The knee injuries ,missing premierships. The coach. Giving everything and just falling short on occasions. He took on the chin..bloody hell,. Look up the word STOIC in the dictionary ,that's JOHN LONGMIRE
Congratulation's John in playing your part of a great club that we all remember was on the verge of extinction in the early 80's.
Thank. you Horse.
Good onya Horsey.❤
Respect
I don’t know who our new coach, Dean cox is but hopefully he is as good as horse is❤
A horse a horse a kingdom for a horse because i haven't picked a winner in six months.
Pathetic your gutless crew couldn't show up on grand final day to reward your hard work. Big respect for a great coach
Family now comes first JL '' Enjoy life
Well done on a great career
love the reverse-Goodwin, showing some passion.
We love you horse, a blood for life
I think there’s a problem. All players who started as draftees have only known one coach. This is the equivalent of a relationship break up. I think John should’ve focused on that point. Drumming into the players that they need to refocus.
It’s a bit like the girlfriend says , “hey darling I’m going away for good, but I want you to look after the house and the baby from now on.” I believe the players will be shellshocked.
I’m sure there’s been plenty of conversations behind closed doors. His not a piece of shit, his informed cox with all he can - north fan
@ it’s not about informing Cox. How many examples have seen where the players have been playing for him? They love John and now he’s gone. They’re human beings with feelings and emotions. It’s like daddy‘s going away for good.
That is what the kids call a Chad. All class
just could not get the players to play for him in Grand FInals
Wins premierships he don't retire simple .too many chokes. Unlucky horse 🐴
For too long mired in mediocrity, horsing around, one cock up after another.
We will miss you horse go coxy
From horse to now Big Cox.
Cut the crap he Was sacked no spin
Im glad his gone sick of loosing grandfinals hullo
Swans are chokers last three gf lost them all dont now about the new coach he been working with this one for years .the swans need a fresh start
That is why Cox stayed. He knew then. Why is the trend for tears , players and coaches? I have worked with organisations with great people but never cried when I left ?
Geez... Are there onions in my living room 😢
