Your pastures still look amazing ...mine are very sad, 3/4 of it is first time cows will be on it, stripped for hay for decades. I'm slowly giving them slivers more to their paddock daily but it's so un even some 2, 3 and 4 leaves per grass blade. The 1/4 I had the cows on since last May is definitely improved...I'm very hopeful that the land will heal.

Thank you. I’ll have to do some footage in the not so good areas for full disclosure. 😂. Believe me. It doesn’t all look like that. Don’t be discouraged! You’ll make it better with time and management

We just overcasted 3.5 acres with a grazing seed mix. Keep at it brother.

I'd like to know what mix is suggested also? My local mill is suggested there horse pasture mix even though I'm doing Dexter cattle.

I got a good laugh when you said the cows are going to moonwalk on that pasture. I feel like patience is key when it comes to forage quality (especially perennials).

The grass that you thought was maybe foxtail may be velvet grass. It's a grass the animals don't seem to like as well. The horses will leave it if they have other grass available. The buttercup I think you can get rid of with Curtail. If you have animals with light pigment skin buttercup it will cause them to burn in the sum.

The area that floods. I wonder if that would be good to plant oats on in July for late summer fall forage?

It really seems to show up in force in areas that were overgrazed late summer. Maybe this year we can keep a thick cover on the soil and see if that won’t help keep it pushed back 🤷🏼‍♂️

I grew up on a large farm and my dad kept approximately sixty head of cattle, trust me your pasture is normal...get some grass seed and spread it around where you want to thicken your grass...
