Joost lost his father to cancer when he was 11 or 12 and a year later unexpectedly his mother to a heart attack. He was in an orphanage for a while. His father told him borders are only in your mind your thoughts are borderless, limitless. He always watched Eurovision with his parents and told them he was going to be on that podium when he was older. The act on stage inclides a blue bird, it stands for a new beginning. With participating he wants to end the burning pain of missing them so much. (House on fire in video) He can't carry the wait of that pain all his life. New beginnings.
Thanks for your honest reaction. I saw the confusion on your face. In The Netherlands this song brings people together, and that's unusual for our country in this contest.
I didn't understand all the details...but I was able to read about the song and meaning afterwards in greater detail. I'm very unhappy it got disqualified.
I've got Europapa at 4th place. Really love the message behind the song, and Joost has quite the story with how it came to be. He watched the contest with his parents when they were still alive and he told his dad that someday, he would be on that stage for the Netherlands, and now he is there with a dynamite entry that is authentic, fun, and even poignant at the same time. I can't wait to see how this'll go over in Malmo, and I know his parents would be very proud of him too.
Absolutely!))) His parents will be thrilled with him. ...and that he is able to capture a huge dream of his on that stage.)) It's an incredible entry.))
Of course...I'm "lethargic" haha Well I always joke that I"m the "Count of Procrastination." The truth is I'm finished reviewing ALL of the songs...but I didn't have enough time to upload between work and trying to squeeze out some sleep. Next year I will develop a bit of time management 😂 😂 😂 ....but I really adore the song, and true to form, it was in my head all night at work.))) Super memorable. Incredible potential in the finals.))
You need to view it again to catch several things (pill it of like layers of an onion). It's VERY Dutch. And has references to several things. The hard music is hardcore house (hakken) a very Dutch dance.

I think it will end up in the top 5 during the grand final.
Thank you for your nice comment👍
As long as we 🇳🇱🌷🌷don’t end up on 11th place; we’ve done that too many times!
You waited untill the last minute 😂. I am Dutch. We were 3rd in the odds but are 7th now. Well, I hope we will qualify and finish top 10.

Joost is with "oo" pronounced as the "o" in ghost or "oa" in toast.
Ugh...and I've been pronouncing it like "Juice" the entire time....((( I'll correct it for my finals review.
Now......this song will not perform...we are disqualefied from the eurivision. Joost had een issue with somebody and send home😭😭😭😭😭
Thank you! I hope for good results in the final too! )) Top 5 at least!!! )))
He was disqualified. Subject of investigation, dont know the details.
