Interesting. You've got a picture in the background of a Lion............That happens to be my favorite (g)I-dle song..."Lion"....you ought to check it out
Hey Zack, thanks for reacting to NXDE. After watching your previous gidle reactions I thought you'd like this one too. Totally agree with your comment about the differences in US vs Korean cultures, and how gidle takes on risky topics. That's a characteristic of this group. Another one is they prefer using real instruments (piano, drums, guitar, brass) as opposed to EDM sounds, and they lean more towards a rock vibe at times. IMO, Soyeon is brilliant, her creativity and imagination are off the hook. She always develops unique and interesting subjects and then delivers them on such an artful stage. All the members, except Shuhua, are also involved to lyrics, music arrangement, and production, which is unusual in kpop, especially for a gg. Additionally, Soyeon is widely acknowledged as one of the best female rappers in the business (check out her "is this bad b number" mv). Please react to their mv OH MY GOD. I think it's their best video and it made it to an industry's top 10 list of "All Time Best Kpop MV's". New subscriber.
Yep... "oh my god" and "Lion" should be next up. They both include excellent rap sections by Soyeon. A good appetizer before experiencing the more shocking rap from "Is this bad B number".
Soyeon raps in nearly all (G)I-DLE songs (in "Tomboy", too). I think "Queencard" is an outlier (I welcome NEVERLAND (fandom name) to correct me, if I'm wrong). A great example for her speed rap is Soyeon's solo song "Is this bad b****** number?" with Lee Young Ji and BIBI (live video on the Dingo music channel).
You're on track, additionally they are using the word "nude" to depict presenting their "true" selves. "Even if you don't love me anymore, yes I'm nude". The album that this song is a part of explores the ideas of depicting an image that the fans desire... even though that's not really who they are. Also, the album explores the idea of "I'd rather be hated for who I am, than loved for what I am not". This is the theme that Soyeon presented to the company when she pitched this concept. If you react to the whole album "i Love" then you want to listen to track list in reverse order to receive the message.
I think this is one of their songs with the most meanings/layers, and a great example of why them being involved in every aspect is so important - the mv adds so much! You certainly got some of the messaging, though Soyeon said she was also inspired by Kurt Cobain saying "I'd rather be hated for who I am than loved for who I am not". Part of her meaning of 'nude' is revealing your true self. At the beginning Soyeon is reading "Leaves of grass", a book of poetry Marilyn was photographed reading. It's a notoriously literary book of poetry and Marilyn received backlash because the public just wanted the "dumb blonde" icon. Soyeon has said in interview that she doesn't consider herself a singer but a rapper, and has some of the most complex flows out there. That said, one of Korea's top vocal coaches called her Korea's Lady Gaga, but Soyeon really considers herself a rapper. Early in their career, Soyeon rapped a lot more, but since Nxde she seems to be looking to encourage the other members to broaden or showcase their skills, and you find her writing raps for the other members more than for herself. I saw someone mention "is this bad b**** number". I'd say that there are other songs on that EP that have better raps, though that is the fastest. Not all their songs have messaging, sometimes they just have fun or want to write something different. If you want something inspired by 90s music, check out "Uh-oh"
Finally, a proper reaction👍, it certainly does justice to their song (same as for the 2 songs u reacted prior to this one). And, I must mention (since I've seen a previous comment accusing u of pausing too much & talking during the reaction), I certainly don't mind it at all, since u provide rly good feedback & interesting comments. Actually, among tens of reactors I've seen on YT reacting to their songs, u offered the best comments & u understood from the 1st listen (not knowing them at all before your 1st listen of "Tomboy" ) the hidden messages in their lyrics & visuals. I, for sure, appreciate a good in-depth review & not the usual shallow reactor rambling about how beautiful they are, how they shake their asses etc. Also, I would like to recommend u to listen 1 of their previous older songs as well, called "LION" (from the era when they were 6, together with Soojin - their member who was unrightfully accused of school bullying & forced by CUBE - their company - to leave the group, & forced to take a 2 y hiatus). I'm sure u'll be more than impressed, is 1 of their most iconic songs. And, ofc, certainly continue reacting to their latest songs as well, like "Superlady", "Wife" (a parody regarding the role of the woman in the korean society) & many, many more. Ahhh, I almost forgot about Soyeon's most fire rap collab, with Bibi & Lee Young Ji, called "Is this bad b****** number?" (composed by her, ofc).
@@zack_reacts not kind, just sincere😁. I follow 50+ music reactors (it relaxes me), mostly kpop ones (many with +100.000 subs) & in my opinion, u are 1 of the best ones out there. Keep it up!
Thank you for your nice reaction to I-Dle, with very good interpretations. As you watched Queencard, i hope you'll do 'Allergy' wich is the first part of Queencard :)
The scene with the newspapers is referencing Marilyn Monroe, and the fact she was smart and well read, but had to play dumb to fit peoples prejudices. So, at one level, the visuals are depicting the sexualisation of woman, but on anothet level, the lyrics are about being your authentic self, unadorned, nude. We are all born nude. Under our physical clothing, and our clothing of how we mold ourselves to fit in, is our henuine, unadorned, nude, self.
Most intelligent songs in kpop
Keep the (G)I-DLE reactions coming I’m enjoying them so much! You’ve been so good understanding their mvs and the messages in them too!

IDLE’s music style is so versatile because they self-produce, which is sooooo rare among K-pop groups. They are special. Love the girls.

You nailed the message and underlying themes 👍 keep them coming. Should do Allergy next, its the prequel to Queencard
