I like both for different reasons, the japanese sounds like a genuine cutesy idol song while the english version sounds like something I'd hear on a crusty radio while trapped in someone's basement

The anime is ingenious but psychologically sinister and twisted
I wish there were more animated Giallos out there like this one.
I feel like that's part of what makes it a master piece I just saw it a couple days ago and it was definitely something.
*SPOILERS*
When Mima finds out that she is in Rumi's room and Rumi comes from behind her, in the English dub, she sings a part of the chorus from Angel of Love, but with different lyrics. "Your heart goes thump thump thump thump when you're in love, but then it pays off pays off when you're loved back." I wonder if there is a version with these lyrics...

Yeah I noticed that too. I was really hoping for a redub for the Blu-Ray release. Nothing against the original voice cast but I've yet to hear an English version of "Ai no Tenshi" and "Alone but at Ease" that sounds as great as the originals.

I feel like the English version is so good for being an English version. Since the dub was made for a western audience this version sounds like it's from a western girl band and not a Japanese one, I feel like this kinda helps with the cultural bridge if that makes since
It does :) aside from some minor translation problems I think the dubbed version is pretty good.

I thought the dub was fantastic aside from me-mania's voice, he sounded way too goofy and it took me out of it for a second
I wish the DVD or blu-ray included the other dubbed songs. I might know someone on MySpleen or Cinemageddon who might be able to sample the songs from the audio track. *Fishman* on RUclips seems to be pretty good at that too.

This song feels like directly written for me-mania, i can imagine that all the awful things me-mania did, he just listening to this song first and the lyric for me sounds like as if giving a conviction and courage for him to just do it and pumping his will with faith, hatred and love.

Always loved this song since I first saw the movie so many years ago. The main difference between "Angel of Your Heart" and "Ai No Tenshi" is that it's 3 voices versus 1. In "Ai No Tenshi" you can distinctly hear 3 different voices from Cham compared to "Angel of Your Heart" where you only hear Mima's voice.
I don't feel like the english lyrics are bad but they certainly don't seem to fit the TONE of the film. CHAM was an upbeat band. They were innocent. This song sounds like its sung by someone who is world-weary. Not innocent at all.
The lyrics are pretty spot-on but yeah..... The singer doesn't sound like a J-pop artist but more like... I dunno, Rhianna on her off-day? lol
dujava I know this is two years old, but it's still the top comment. I listened to this with your point in mind and I actually thinks it still works with the original tone you describe. If I try to hear this as a passing pop song that happens to be on the radio, I wouldn't think twice about who the artist is or what their life is like. Cham was probably the equivalent to the 3-4 hit pop bands that last a few years in the mainstream. And she left before they even became ~huge or international.
I think it still fits with the theme.

@@clarelabellerose I feel like that's the whole point of CHAM's "charm" though (at least to their fans). They are supposed to be seen as young and innocent, upbeat girls rather than mature and world-weary.

Believe it or not it was thanks to Robin Williams on how I heard of Satoshi Kon in the first place. The film icon was a huge fan of anime, even had an autographed DVD of Kon's series Paranoia Agent. After that I looked up who Satoshi Kon was and what other anime he made. My goodness he was such a great filmmaker who also died too soon. RIP to both Williams and Kon.
This could've been the theme song to a plethora of anime tv shows in the 90s. Got a Sailor Moon vibe to it.
This film is timeless, I just watched it a couple days ago and the effect this film had on me, I felt like I was going insane, much like the main character, good stuff!

I saw the dub before teh sub...but liked both versions. I prefer the Japanese but this was cute.
The English one sounds like the type of English music I'd actually listen to. "Lush, boa etc" but the Japanese version just feels earwormishly catchy which is sad because I can't understand Japanese.
I haven’t watched the original with subtitles but the English dub was A1. Usually I can’t take subbed movies seriously but I think it was realized that this movie deserves to be appreciated in all ways. The “stalker” pushed it pushed it for her love.

2:34 The timestamp is just for me, click it if you want I guess, I don’t like how it ends on that guitar solo it just seems weird to me, it seems like the dance break/bridge of the song, but they have that weird bit at 2:27 where it feels out of place and kind of jarring tbh...
I like the original (slightly) more, but I really like the slightly disquieting vibe this one gives off. Definitely going on my playlist.
