- John Tanner is known as the man who saved the Kirtland Temple. His life was a stellar example of hard work, industry and faith. He donated over $50,000. in cash to the church in the 1840s. He suffered at the hand of disease, mobs, Indians, and personal tragedy, but his faith never waivered. He lost more personal wealth with the failure of the Kirtland Bank than everyone else combined, yet he continued faithful. He followed the Prophet Joseph Smith and later Brigham Young with the fruits of his industry and hard work. He shared endless supplies of equipment and supplies to the Saints in their Zionist movements across the country. He was a true follower of Jesus Christ in word and deed.

Such a great story! I enjoy it every time I listen to it. I would imagine the Prophet Joseph Smith was so grateful for Brother Tanner. He helped the Saints so much. Church history is great spiritual food! 😊
Thanks for watching
Thank you so much for this! This brought tears to my eyes. John Tanner is my fourth great grandfather. My BYU roommate was actually a descendant of one of the Carters that taught him the gospel. I am so thankful for the pioneers and their sacrifices so that we can have the restored gospel.
This story brought tears to my eyes too. John Tanner was amazing. Thanks for watching
Oh that we all had the faith and testimony of Bro. John Tanner. He knew his treasures were in heaven.
No doubt, thank you for watching
That’s beautiful. He was like modern day Job!

Brother Myrill , i have never heard such a full account of Brother Tanner as this . I enjoyed it beyond words.
Thanks Brother. I have a new one I am working on about tithing. Thanks for your faithful support
I really love your true stories. Thank you
I appreciate you watching, Thanks
Thank you Brother Merrill. BTW, I know one of the descendants of John Tanner. She comes from a family of 13 children in Southern California . That entire family has offspring who are very accomplished and even prospered monetarily as well. The family has expanded tremendously over the years, as well. I believe Joseph Smith’s blessing on John Tanner’s family continues to this day.
I am sure it does. Thanks
My wife comes from quite a large family, descended from John Tanner. While there have been many opportunities for it, in every instance we know that promise from Joseph Smith to John Tanner about his children is still happening.
Thank you for sharing that. I feel we pass on spiritual genetics as well as physical. The scriptures say to the 3rd and 4th generation. I feel it goes on much more. The Abrahamic Covenant-Blood of Isreal is an example. Thanks for watching
To the best of my knowledge, it is still true in my family. We are also descendants of John Tanner through his son Joseph Smith Tanner.
@@deannea3899 It sounds like an amazing group of descendants
Thank you for sharing this amazing story. I'd heard some of this story before but not all of it. Maybe Brother Tanner was part of the reason we got the temple back. 😉
Thanks for watching
Your efforts to present these stories are much appreciated and needed in this day and age. We need to be reminded that trials help us grow in knowledge and experience and that God is in charge.

I always feel the Spirit every time I watch it
It is a great video. I worry a lot of the people under 50 haven't and won't watch the older church videos. I tried to have more information and detail than was in the old movie. Hope you enjoyed it.

You’ve completely changed my life with this video.
I received a prompting like you WOULD believe! I’ve been struggling with something everybody struggles with, and now I feel my prayer has been answered.
How firm a foundation? Place your heart and soul on the altar! O thou Rock of our Salvation!

You keep me grounded, Brother Merrill, Brother Powers
Thanks Brother Powers. I appreciate you watching
Love this story
It is a great story. Thanks for watching
I have heard this story before but never in such detail. I thoroughly enjoyed your account of John Tanner's life. He has been one of my heroes for a long time. Thanks for another great episode.
John Tanner was amazing. I thought it worth the research time to tell the whole story. Many of the comments on this story testify that Joseph's promise to JT holds true many generations later. Thanks for watching
I love to listen to your stories. What a gift you have. Any way you could give us one a day? I listen to them over and over because I love the feeling your stories leave in my heart.
I am so sorry I don't have more. I am spending 50-60 hours a week doing 2 of them. I do all my own research, writing, recording, editing and posting. I usually combing 5-10 different sources to tell as complete a story as possible. My mission work and temple work are cutting into my week as well. I am sad to announce, I am going to cut back to 1 story a week for the summer. Thank you so much for your interest and thanks for watching.
I understand. Thank you for sharing your wonderful gift.
What a divine man!
He was amazing
Thank you for another inspirational story. 😊
