They broke the stereotypes. Before BIGBANG, and after to be honest.. every idols in a boy group were seen as robotic, flower/ boy style and with synchronized dancing and singing. BIGBANG actually not controversial at all. It's just never cared for the squeaky clean sanitized image that kpop idols have these days. They date, have tattoos, smoke cigarettes in public, go clubbing. They have always been unapologetically themselves from the very start.
Kpop stans nowadays will be clutching pearls if their faves even do what BB does. TBH kpop is pretty boring these days while 1st gen and 2nd gen idols were experimental, have very distinct identities and were never afraid to show personalities.
As a VIP, I'm not going to deny the drug scandal/allegations plus, yk, Ri. But I do agree that they just don't give af to the insane ideals the public expect from idols.

@@fjv5p I'm 12 yrs a VIP and before 2011 I was a casual fan, it really was different back in the day. They are also expected to be clean but not to the extent idols are experiencing now. You'd think it's just the foreign fans who put pressure to these already highly stressed people but Koreans as well.

I watched this Zip Daesung episode with Xia Junsu from TVXQ. These two groups used to be like rivals before, maybe because of the number of members and also they were those boy groups who were popular back then. I couldn't believe when Daesung said this but they tried to be that generic boy group who would be synchronised to their dance routines but that's just not how Bigbang is

I have seen Koreans analyze this lyrics, they are very tasteful, one line of lyrics has many different meanings, and it contains a lot of word plays,punchlines, the lyrics written by GD are very deep and dirty, it is really worth savoring carefully.
