I’m LE. I’ve been making my own “MRE’s” for work and for camping with my kids. On a limited budget, I appreciate your ideas. I don’t always mimic them, but you spur thinking and ideas. Thank you!
Yes, please do the clearance video. Also, if you don't mind the suggestion. A holiday blind bag tasting. You and three other vict.. I mean participants select from one of four MREs/Field Rations/C-Rations of which no one knows the contents. I know this may be a bit difficult to set up, but I think would be a wonderful episode.
2:35 - Half of our pantry has Kroger Manager's Special stickers on it. One tip on Kroger shopping, get there mid morning if you can. We frequently find brand new, right off the truck items that have been marked down simply because the store does not have the space for it, and not just food items either. We have found toilet paper, paper towels and other household items marked down as well.
Where I live in Pennsylvania is rural. We have the township above our borough. If you go up there it is wooded. It is amazing what people dump. It makes me so mad. I report it to the township and they properly dispose it. Also, there are yards up there, that look like garbage dumps. They do not have the codes to follow, like we do here in the borough. All in all, it is nice here. It is one of the reasons why, we moved here from overcrowded and expensive New Jersey. Hard to believe, that was 27 years ago. Have a great week.
Unfortunately anyplace that looks unattended becomes a dumping ground and people have no guilt about trashing someone else’s property. It’s sad how bold they are with it.
I don't know if my Kroger has an actual clearance area except in produce, I just usually find clearance stuff throughout the store. Wish it was all in one place! I always carry a type of MRE with me when I travel to and from town for errands. I'm 30-40 mins one-way depending on where I'm going, so, instead of $12-$15 a pop just for a sandwich or whatever, I take a gallon size ziplock that says "Mom's Purse Food" on it. 😂😂😂😂 As always thanks DBA for a great vid!!!
Was a police officer in the 90s. Got called for the first time last year. I thought for sure I would be immediately dismissed. Nope. Ended up being jury foreman. Maybe it's because I took it more seriously than the others and wore a suit. Anyhoo, I'm off to a neighboring town's big Kroger to see if they have such a clearance rack and find some goodies.
I figure my LEO past will expire by the next time I get called. My wife was put on a jury a couple months ago and I was shocked that being married to me didn’t him get her dismissed. Things are changing I guess.
Your option is the best option - no fighting crowds and waiting in lines. And it is probably louder inside the courthouse deli than on the parking deck.
Another great video showcasing what you can do with a quick trip to the store and not a lot of money to make the duty more fun. I would like to see more video from the "clearance bin". That would be awesome. I don't want to jinx myself but I've been called 3 times, twice as an alternate and once I had to go in. They let us go just after lunch because no one wanted a jury trial at that court house that week. The bailiff told us to leave and go buy lottery tickets on our way out.
In California its called Ralph's. Closest one is about 45 miles away. one day soon, i'll get there. I want to see if if store setup matches your experience; keeping an open mind. My age (86) no longer requires me to be listed for jury duty.
Even though it's not fun, jury duty is necessary. I've been called up to serve three times. Seated in the jury on a drunk driving case. It is a vital part of a functioning democracy. Thanks for doing your part, even if it is just sitting there waiting to get disqualified. Good use of an MRE. Thanks for making a video out of it and sharing your experience.
Loved the video, and like the idea of a clearance themed one. Good to see that the AG has been pressured to do their duty. Those strawberry crisps looked good; nice and crispy. The tuna with sriracha looked delicious as well, and I can really imaging that as a salad at a restaurant. Pretty funny that the shortcake bar was evidently basement flavored🤣🤣🤣
As a man that loves a good discount but also believes in waste reduction I'll love to see you building this MRE from that clearance section. mean all your videos great but as far as I know that is a new idea for the cheapest budget anything. regardless love to see that and look forward to future videos.
Yes, an MRE from clearance would be interesting. Of course we, Dear Wife & Myself, think all vids you produce are well thought out, executed with forethought, filmed & produced with precision, and most importantly are informative. Jury duty is a Civic Duty, one that is not enjoyed, however it is executed with great responsibility. You mentioned Federal Jury Duty, I once was tagged for Federal Duty in West Texas, Midland to be exact, served for 18 months, called up 4 times, served 3 trials, longest was 15 days. Not something I would ever like to repeat. Thanks for taking us along. See you on the trail.
Clearance video would be great, also maybe an ultralite version, and possibly a series where you build 24 hour kits that you eat soley for a week like an extended camping trip
Another great video and really cool to see one used in a practical situation. While yes, they serve as your meal when you're reviewing it, if seems more of a test "in the field". My wife and I go away once a year for our anniversary...... Annnnd in real time I held that thought and proposed the idea to my wife who had objections and laughed and called me a dork. Admittedly, I call her a dork for the stuff she likes too. It's in a loving way BUT for her transgression, Im not sharing when I do it for myself.
If I know im going on a trip I pack MRE small boxes mark snack lite lunch. These meals only have to have an expiration date that makes it through my trip length that makes options plentiful. I just read the contents and decide do I want a lunch or snack. This works out great!
Having watched your channel for a while, I was surprised when seeing the title of the video. Anyway good use of am MRE and it looked tasty also. Enjoyed the video, the recording was fine. Get any funny looks filming yourself eating out of the back of your car in a parking garage?
Not really. I had the camera in the cargo area of my car and the people who drifted by just saw me standing there eating. I’m sure they are used to that. It was a strategy figuring out how to not make it awkward 😬
Definitely interested in the Kroger Klearance MRE…and clearance MRE’s from any other stores you’d like to do them at/from. You might want to add these 2 to your road trip shopping list: Weis Markets (PA&NJ) and The Giant Company (regional supermarket chain that operates in Pennsylvania, Maryland, Virginia, and West Virginia under the Giant and Martin's brands.) I’ve never been to either but, I’ve driven past plenty and I see their trucks on the interstates frequently
If you are looking for other video ideas, maybe a top 5 items in each category (entree, walking snacks, dessert, bev, etc)? Of course I know everyone's tastes are different but you could even reuse some older footage. Not sure if that would be easier to put together vs making /editing new ones? Thanks for the great content.
Clearance shopping video pleeeeeze 🫠 Great video and i like how you put on your safety glasses for Sriracha! LOL I hope you weren't picked for jury duty.
That video is coming soon! I was not. Fortunately by the end of day one they had seated everyone they needed and the rest of us were cut loose. Out for the next ten years unless the feds call.
I feel you on the JD. I got called about a year after I left the SO, and my first case was one I was actually on scene for. Didn't need an MRE for that one the Defense practically bought me a plane ticket out of the building. 😅
This one was fun and a little different. The blondies are okay but the brownies with M&M type candies are the way to go as far as those type Muffin King cakes are concerned. The clearance video sounds like a good idea
Jury duty, I got called twice this year, once for City and once for the County, didn’t have to sit in a trial for either. I did sit on a criminal trial case the first time I got called years ago, interesting experience. I think everyone should do it at least once. I agree that your call to jury duty is a perfect example of a time to grab a few homemade MRE’s and head out. It would be interesting to see the difference between a six month shelf life MRE and a two year shelf life MRE. A five year shelf life MRE would make for a challenge that would require sourcing from several places. I agree littering really gets under my skin as does graffiti. Good luck 🍀
Never know when you might be a good fit for someone's peers where you might be perfect for the jury. Urban exploration food might be a good topic as well. It's always fun to take a trip to the center of the city and just watch people, almost as much fun as watching other animals in the wild. =D
I had to do jury duty earlier this year. Got chosen to sit on a felony murder case. It lasted 7 days. I packed my lunches every day. I could not justify spending $15 to $20 for lunch every day. Always plan and pack before hand. Makes life easier.
I always take snacks for me and hubs when traveling. You never know when something is going to delay your return home. I was stuck on I40 once for 3 hours. I was starved when I finally got home.😮
That’s one of my biggest motivations for doing stuff like this. Imagine that three hours turning into a day or more. Anytime someone’s traveling they should be bringing food of some kind.
It seems like single serve condiments like Ketchup, Mustard, Hot Sauces, Mayo, Jams, Jellies, Soy Sauce, Creamer pouches etc..can only be purchased at a restaraunts or through food service supply stores. It would be good to be able to buy them in selections to have on hand for picnics, and portable meals. Maybe you could post your thoughts about single serve seasnoning and condiments in a video? Where to get them?
I absolutely love it. I know people toss around the phrase “game changer” a lot but this is definitely one. It’s so much easier to keep up with and it shoots amazing video. I really want to add another to my setup.
They are so good. Be sure to look at the ingredients though to make sure they have things you like. Some of them aren’t on my list of favorite foods because they have stuff I don’t eat in them.
A real Meal Ready to Eat! Sorry about your location. When I lived in Hollywood, CA, I had jury duty many times in downtown L.A. Best time ever! First, the crimes were worth showing up for, so it was almost never a waste of time. Second, we always had at least 2-hour lunch breaks. Third, the number of great places to eat! Even the Department of Water and Power cafeteria, just across the street, was great. But the best was that Chinatown was just a couple of miles away. Once I had JD at the Mental Health court, not in downtown, but the County drove us there and picked up the tab for lunch wherever we chose to eat. The topper was the "judge" was Lance Ito way prior to the O.J. trial. I say "judge" because he wasn't one yet and was filling in for a judge who was on vacation. We weren't a jury to find guilt or innocence, just to determine if a mentally committed inmate was safe to release back into society.
cool idea. Been called twice for duty. Treated like crap. Wasted a lot of time. Then dismissed because I am ex military. Anyway concept should be to always have an option available.
I don't understand the people who do not comprehend the need for MRE (or MRE types) of foods. Who wants to fight through a line of people at Wendy's just to cram an overpriced burger down and jump right back into the jury waiting room? It was also interesting to see you enjoying an MRE in a public place... especially watching you scan around constantly, staying aware of your surroundings.
One can never assume all is well. I have watched as people around the courthouse defy laws and the police as if they have no account for their actions. Then they wonder why they are on the other side of the bench.
The research suggests that jury tends to give more lenient verdicts when their glucose levels are at satisfactory levels. If the defendant is guilty you better not touch your supplies before the proceedings!
Jury nullification is the main reason juries exist. A jury in the US has the roght to say, "yes, a law was broken, but no crime was committed, not guilty." Everyone needs to know this.
To be fair, most jurors fail to understand the law they are considering in court. No matter how much you explain it most people still base their decision on personal belief and bias.
Thanks, that was an interesting video. I do think that you are wrong about "wasting your time." I worked in the court system for nearly 30 years. You are part of the jury pool. Defendants who had a false sense of right & wrong and a skewed sense of reality need to see potential jurors like yourself before they have that "come to Jesus" moment. You are doing your civic duty just by showing up, although at a painfully slow speed, but it is productive. Thanks for showing up.
That’s the real benefit of being there. We had 12 cases set for trial that week and 10 pled out Monday morning once the jurors arrived. That visual is often a great deterrent for someone who goes in thinking they won’t be able to find enough people to seat their jury.
@@dadbudgetadventures That was what I was trying to say without saying it. I got to hear the defense attorneys trying to talk sense into their clients. "The jurors are sitting out in the hall! The officers haven't dropped dead from heat attacks! They are out in the hallway in fine health! Your 'witnesses' aren't answering my phone calls. What are we doing here?!"
Perfect, sir. Yes, clearance video.
Stick around, it’s coming soon!

Absolutely!

Yeah these make more and more sense as fast food becomes a luxury priced option.
Mom's purse food is always a welcome MRE
Healthier too! ( Usually lol 😅)
@SuperWhatapain Actually, always healthier now that I think about it 😊
Love starting Sunday morning with DBA. Happy to feed the algorithm 😊
p.s. ditto on the DBA clearance video!
Absolutely agree with you.
Thank you. That one is gonna happen. Too many people asking for me to get away without showing it.

What a great idea for using an mre. Would love to see a video with clearance items.
Stay tuned, that one is gonna happen!
Thanks for another weekly "sitting around" treat.
You’re quite welcome. Thanks for coming back for more!
A clearance MRE sounds like Schrödinger's MRE it might be edible and might not.
It could definitely be that 😂
😅😅😅
It really warms my heart seeing you enjoying that sriracha. I kinda figured you would put it to good use. Cheers.
Man, this stuff has come in sooooo handy! Thank you!

Your option is the best option - no fighting crowds and waiting in lines. And it is probably louder inside the courthouse deli than on the parking deck.
I can guarantee you are correct.
Agree.. littering sucks.
Yep. I’m especially bothered by it when I’m camping and see how other campers treat the places they go.

Funny thing, we no longer have an age limit here. Another thing that went away as they got desperate for jurors.
About time the Ag's get busy! Glad you were prepared with auxiliary food. Good Video!

Jury duty summons always make good kindling for the burn pit.
The Thirteen Amendment outlawed involuntary servitude.
Thanks for the vid and have as good a time as possible.

That strawberry bar was so disappointing! I love them out of the freezer so I didn’t expect it to be so blah!
Another great video. Yes a clearance mre would be an interesting idea. I may have to try that tuna bowl. It looked good.
Got that one in the works!
Love the clearance idea

Yes please for the clearance rack MRE. Thank you for the video, I appreciate you!
Clearance MRE coming right up!
I got called for Jury Duty next month…now I have lunch plans! Thanks for another great video!

Really liked this one. The “meh” of the freeze dried ice cream bar cracked me up. And yes. A Kroger clearance shelf would be interesting.
Stuck around. That will be coming up!
Clearance video would be great, also maybe an ultralite version, and possibly a series where you build 24 hour kits that you eat soley for a week like an extended camping trip

Yeah I thought this might hit different since it shows a good reason why one might want to try it.
This goes to show, you never know when an MRE will come in handy. Stay well.
Exactly!
GREAT VID DBA, THE WILD PLANET LOOKED GOOD. 26.3K SUBS NOW CONGRATS.....Z.....

@@dadbudgetadventures YW, I HAD GOTTEN ONE TO TRY FROM ONE OF YOUR OTHER VIDS, NOT TRIED IT YET.
Love those world planet tuna salad mixes. So many of them and they are all so tasty.
I can’t believe how good they are. For canned food it’s pretty amazing.
Freeze dried strawberries are my favorite.
These were some of the best I’ve found.
I'm up canning leftover turkey and turkey broth. Once again we get a great video from you ❤
Canned turkey? That sounds kinda awesome!
I haven't tastedit yet but i didn't want it to waste. The bone broth is definitely delicious ❤. @dadbudgetadventures

That’s a great solution. Expiration dates on things you want to use right away opens up lots more options.
Great video. I really enjoyed it

Yes please I love special bargain bins you do
Cool! Stay tuned!
Great video as always.
Thank you
My husband and I were talking and thinking to do some for when we go places. We will be always ready.

I love those cornbread muffins!

add these 2 to your road trip shopping list:

Great video. Keep them coming
Thanks!
Great video love the fact that you're still scared of the sriracha great video man
Thank you!
@dadbudgetadventures and I'm sure they all say "I didn't do nuthin!"
good job
Thank you!
I like what Dollar Tree has to offer!
They have some pretty good stuff especially for making these meals.
Would definitely watch a bargain hunted MRE video
Stay tuned!
Very good idea
I'm glad you did your civic duty
Sometimes, here they dismiss you after a day or two
I hope it was an experience at the very least
It’s always an experience and I lear something every time I go.
I would like to see a Kroger clearance MRE.
Coming soon!
I hate when I’ve been called for jury duty and the parties settle at the last minute, while the jury pool is sitting there twiddling our thumbs.
That’s my big issue with it. I have to leave work undone while I sit in a crowded room and wait for what’s probably going to be nothing.
The research suggests that jury tends to give more lenient verdicts when their glucose levels are at satisfactory levels. If the defendant is guilty you better not touch your supplies before the proceedings!
That’s interesting. Funny how food impacts even the justice system.
Jury nullification is the main reason juries exist. A jury in the US has the roght to say, "yes, a law was broken, but no crime was committed, not guilty."
Everyone needs to know this.
To be fair, most jurors fail to understand the law they are considering in court. No matter how much you explain it most people still base their decision on personal belief and bias.
Jury duty??? I feel for you brother.
Yeah, it wasn’t fun
Yes show clearance
Cool. That one will be coming up by popular demand!
You bet!
😎
Good idea to bring your own lunch. I personally like to eat in peace and avoid people as much as possible.
For sure. And waiting in a long line doesn’t make it taste better.
When you look in the clearance section, can you find items that still have an expiration date over a year out?
All of these were. Sometimes it’s just about moving things along for something new.
This is an MRE for the algorithm
Thank you!
Where did you find the kool-aid packets? Nice lunch though.😊
If I remember correctly they were from Walmart.
Where did you get the kool-aid packets with sugar? I’ve been searching for them
I don’t remember right off but I think it was from Walmart. I used them in a prior video but it would take some digging to figure out which one.
@dadbudgetadventures thanks! Mine doesn't have them. I'll keep searching 😊
Right? I was picked a few months back. Great video anyways😊
Thank you
Yeah jury duty! 😂😂😂😂😂😂
Good times
Awsome
Thanks!
I see a lot of crying about crime, but avoiding jury duty in these comments! You can't fairly deal with crime, if everyone avoids jury duty!
Interesting, that’s not what I’ve seen and I’ve read every comment. Sure, maybe a couple of complaints but definitely not a lot.
