For some reason it really amused me that Rae didn’t expect the house pain to be so pigmented, because I always thought all house paint was pigmented since that’s kind of its entire point and it didn’t occur to me until she said that that some house paint probably does suck 😭
it’s not that pigmented as you think, looking at it and then to the paint she uses it’s not that good. It’s the same reason why for stage sets don’t use house paint (they use one that’s made for it). Maybe just maybe for the base but that’s it.
Girl the hardware store has ALL KINDS of great stuff for crafting!! Little wood pieces, paint, markers, slats of wood, finneals, all kinds of shit! I love the hardware store for crafting stuff!
I knew you'd have a good selection of surfaces in a hardware shop, but I didn't expect several options for art materials. The wee birdie is so cute. I wonder how the paint would stand up in the sun- it's usually picture frame marks that show how much emulsion has faded over time. I'm really enjoying how you show people that art can be made with anything that makes marks on stuff!
rae: so these supplies are pretty terrible quality, and totally not what I would use for any art piece if I had a choice. also rae: creates freaking gorrgeous art
You guys better stop questioning what she thinks she likes because I know deep down should enjoy this and you guys just tell what to do what to do what's bad what's good I don't support that
It looks amazing❤❤💞. Sometimes I use pins or needles+tweezers (if the bristle is too small) to pick up the brush bristles rom the painting without messing it up too much, I hope this helps
5:13 I don’t know why, but for some reason my brain saw this sketch and went: Yep. That’s the back view of someone’s hair pulled into a bun. Those are veins running down their neck. Definitely no birds to be found here.
that bird is cute! around here, larger hardware stores tend to have regular arts and crafts sections, albeit small ones, but you do get proper art supplies
Haha, this bring me memories. When I was in paint class, actual acrylics were SO EXPENSIVE so my teacher told us to buy wall paint on primary colors and we all paint with it.... And I still use it sometimes, it's a lifesaver. Also... That make so much easier decorate my wall
dude I'm so proud of myself,I've made art and it looks so amazing I'm so happy with it,and your channel has helped me so much and made me realize that all art is beautiful in all ways.
Truly one of my favourite tools to play around with is a mechanical carpenter's pencil because the wide, flat shaped lead is great for sketches with a lot of straight lines (like architecture.) It's kind of like the pencil equivalent of a flat brush.
You can go even more challenging and get only from a certain brand. I work at a hardware store and found out the tool brand DeWalt has chalks and markers.
Rae I'm super excited for this video! I've recently found out that the hardware store can also be a paradise for artists and crafters, especially when it comes to storage ideas. I even bought a tool box for all my art supplies for a fraction of the cost of an ArtBin in my country (honestly it was a difference of 37 dollars for an ArtBin in Mexico via Amazon vs. a local brand tool box that only cost me 13 bucks in the supermarket and it's exactly the same material but bigger). Anyway if someone has to take something from this video and my comment is that, just because it says "For artists", don't 👏 immediately 👏buy 👏it👏. Check out hardware stores, local markets, flea markets, etc. You never know when you can find some amazing art supplies, storage or any other things in places that aren't directly art related.
Do places like the reuse store. They sell left over building supplies. I got cabinet doors to make fancy chalkboards with decorated frames and screens that I could use for making paper.
that was a fun one. hardware store was my stop before I had budget for actual good art products. the only one I regret is the varnish.... it gets yellow with time and don,t UV protect. But the rest, it's still fine 15-20 years later. I still use blackboard paint from the hardware store as black gesso, it's cheaper, insanly opaque with a beautiful mat finish that you just don't get with anything else. there's a lot of cool stuff at the hardware store.
Girl when I tell you they should let us watch u in art class they really should you teach me more than my art teacher does and you never fail to make it fun and entertaining ☺ (OMG MOM IM FAMOUS!)
As a Lowe's employee, I am very impressed with what you were able to create! I could kind of guess what products you were going to use as well. Your painting looks so good!
Omg I would loved to see you do more painting with housepaint, cuz at first I was like "there's no way-" and so shocked to see the final result!! Loved it so much
Impressive! We know that this video wasn't advocating for replacing art materials with house paints, but we asked the Utrecht Art Supplies team about some of the supplies you selected, just to help beginners understand the difference. The Utrecht team felt certain that the spray primer would not offer the correct absorbency for artist's colors like acrylic gesso would, but they gave thumbs up to that nice looking panel. They said they were fairly sure that the amount of binder that's in house paint would not allow for much thinning with water and still yield as durable a film as artist's acrylics, and that there are additives in modern house paint (plasticizers, less durable colorants) that, in the long life of an artistic painting, might cause undesirable changes. The consensus was that this shows a skilled artist can get great looking results with non-standard supplies, but we think beginners and students might struggle using house paint as substitute art supplies.
Let’s appreciate how nice she is expressing kind comments to the person that sent her the book Edit: OMG NO WAY TY TY TY TYYYY FRO THIS MUCH LIKES I NEVER AHD THIS MUCH 💖😭😍
Home Depot theme- lol! Other things to find: oil based sharpies, pre-cut hard board, odorless mineral spirits... Etc. good job finding the pencils. There are also carpenter's crayons! Speaking as an artist married to a woodworker.
This video is SO CUTE When you're showing off the artwork at the end you just have the happiest face in the world. I love it to death. Also, the piece turned out INCREDIBLE!! It perfectly fits the aesthetic of my house, wish I could buy it right now 😆
It looks amazing!!!! As a fellow lefty artist, did you have any difficulty with the flat carpenter pencil? When I was in college I never could use them correctly, I did get the job done but it was quite complicated, according to my teacher it was because I'm left handed 😭
Wow, great job! Your painting turned out great, especially given the poor quality of the craft brushes you had to work with. Do you think you'll be getting supplies from the hardware store more often? Also, very good information for people looking for those wooden disks, they're always so expensive at the craft store. Sample paint jars are also fantastic for a number of different projects and not too expensive. Thanks for another great video!
Love, love, LOVE your videos! I'm a new subscriber from North Carolina 😊👍 Next time maybe you could get a cloth drop cloth to make a canvas? 🤔🤷🏻♀️ You could staple it to the back of the wood or maybe make a wooden frame. I really appreciate you sharing your knowledge and experiences with all of us 🌏🌎🌍😎👍🖼️🎨🖌️🖍️ You are incredibly gifted!
I love to find art supplies at the hardware store. Textured wallpaper and other textured things to add depth to a piece. They also will cut any size piece of wood you want.
I’m always blown away by how you can do these challenges and have amazing results regardless of any roadblocks. It’s so inspiring for my own artwork and so much fun to watch!
I love how Rae always makes art in her videos. I've seen numerous "Trying out products from- " videos and they make their art work in a separate video which annoys me. Props for Rae to always put in the hard work in her art and EDITING!!💞💞
LOL I literally went to the hardware store for art supplies yesterday and I couldn't find pencils anywhere 🤣🤣🤣 I think I watched a hardware haul on your 2nd channel. You're the BEST 💗💗💗
You are so fricking pretty and talented. I legit am probably too old to love your channel but I do. I share your videos with my son lol. Great Content!!! Thank You.
As someone that worked at a hardware store. There is actually SO much you can make art with in there. They even sell pencils, pens, markers, and paper. (also the tiny brushes are for detail work and cleaning up small areas)
great looking birb! the hardware store was actually a good place to get a lot of paint for cheap for college 😀 and pretty much all i used for brushes was the house painting ones lol
i used house paint all the time. so much cheaper by the gallon and mixes just fine with my art paints too, along with those big brushes for the big areas. and for my white space areas. even use it in my flow art.
I love that the Home Depot theme is playing while she’s in Lowe’s. 😂
Yea lol 😂
I thought it was hilarious
Lmaaooo
So glad to see this comment here
And she had the homedepot logo lol
Rae: *goes to Lowes*
Also Rae: *plays Home Depot music*
I JUST COMMENTED THE EXACT SAME THING 😭🤚 I hope yours blows up 😩
For some reason it really amused me that Rae didn’t expect the house pain to be so pigmented, because I always thought all house paint was pigmented since that’s kind of its entire point and it didn’t occur to me until she said that that some house paint probably does suck 😭
same I was like
shouldn’t you be worried that it might be too pigmented 😭
Tbh too pigmented isn't a thing, you just put more white/complimentary if its too pigmented.
it’s not that pigmented as you think, looking at it and then to the paint she uses it’s not that good. It’s the same reason why for stage sets don’t use house paint (they use one that’s made for it). Maybe just maybe for the base but that’s it.
I've painted rooms that took 4-5 coats!! Def depends on the color/brand, but most of it is pretty pigmented
Some house paint is very sheer and requires a lot of coats to get even, full coverage.
Girl the hardware store has ALL KINDS of great stuff for crafting!! Little wood pieces, paint, markers, slats of wood, finneals, all kinds of shit! I love the hardware store for crafting stuff!
Me too! I always get my canvases and Gesso from the hardware store!
For real!! I can spend hours in them stores.
Not to mention spray paint if you want to do graffiti
My husband used to love hardware stores and so did I. Yes all sorts of stuff to be creative with!
Lil' birb is a cutie! 🥺
(Also, I'm surprised they don't have better detailing brushes there! Rude.)
Home Depot has better detail brushes than Lowes, from experience
2 reply wow
I think it's a Western Bluebird!
I knew you'd have a good selection of surfaces in a hardware shop, but I didn't expect several options for art materials. The wee birdie is so cute. also rae: creates freaking gorrgeous art
Literally how I felt when she brought up those other two videos. Like girl I can’t do that well even with actual good art supplies.
@@Goleon yeah totally, im kind of an artist but no where near that level lol
@@Goleon I know right like I can draw a donut and a spider and that it
You guys better stop questioning what she thinks she likes because I know deep down should enjoy this and you guys just tell what to do what to do what's bad what's good I don't support that
*_Jazza_*
I love that she put a picture of lowes and had home depot music on top 🤭
And had Home Depot in her thumb nail but actually went to lowes but it’s okay 😂
Someone could give me the highest quality art supplies and I’d still somehow make a stick figure
Mood
Same not gonna lie
Thats the comment that makes every artist go 🫠🫥
I literally do that lol
🤣🤣
A hardware store *should* have canvas. Even though people most often use plastic now, you can still find tarps and banners made of cloth canvas.
You'll find them in the paint section, sold as drop cloths.
It turned out beautifully!! The bristles coming off the brush and getting stuck in the paint brings back bad memories 😭
Something you can find at hardware stores are paint pens to fix tables and chairs that work good for artwork, but the fumes are unbearable lol
Uhm lol I hope you’re using them outside or in a well ventilated area
Paint pens from art supply stores aren't a whole lot better in some cases.
It looks amazing❤❤💞. Sometimes I use pins or needles+tweezers (if the bristle is too small) to pick up the brush bristles rom the painting without messing it up too much, I hope this helps
Ayyy I do that too, but it’s usually cat fur xD
5:13
I don’t know why, but for some reason my brain saw this sketch and went: Yep. That’s the back view of someone’s hair pulled into a bun. Those are veins running down their neck. Definitely no birds to be found here.
How high are you, to be able to see that?
Lmao xD

proud of you man!! :D
I’m also proud of you! Keep it up! 💜
Truly one of my favourite tools to play around with is a mechanical carpenter's pencil because the wide, flat shaped lead is great for sketches with a lot of straight lines (like architecture.) It's kind of like the pencil equivalent of a flat brush.
Omg I didn't know those existed! I need to get myself one immediately!
I always wondered what else I could use to prime wood. This is exciting!
No matter whatever challenge you do, the artwork is always amazing ✨

Girl when I tell you they should let us watch u in art class they really should you teach me more than my art teacher does and you never fail to make it fun and entertaining ☺ (OMG MOM IM FAMOUS!)
My teacher makes us watch random videos that don’t even help!
I t feels like they think we are toddlers!!
She must to teach you like the video
*plays the home depot song while pulling up to lowe's*
✨a piece of wood✨
They work like sharpies, except more 😎badass😎, were the highlights of the video😂
Thanks for uploading rae! ❤️
i love this video, it was great.
i just can’t get over you saying tarot like “tarrot” like a carrot when it’s “tear-oh” 😭 long time subscriber and ily
I thought I heard a T on the end but I wasn’t 100% sure lol she’s so cute! But we don’t know til someone tells us

Well this took me straight back to when I first started painting using MDF board and white house paint as primer. I still do when I use acrylics!
that combo is exactly what we always used in highschool art class :-)
No matter whatever challenge you do, the artwork is always amazing ✨
This video is SO CUTE When you're showing off the artwork at the end you just have the happiest face in the world. I love it to death. Also, the piece turned out INCREDIBLE!! It perfectly fits the aesthetic of my house, wish I could buy it right now 😆
Her art needs to be in the museum.
8:40 I was smiling because that birb is so cute
Rae: I love the smell of freshly cut wood
Rae: *INTENSE SNIFF*
It looks amazing!!!! As a fellow lefty artist, did you have any difficulty with the flat carpenter pencil? When I was in college I never could use them correctly, I did get the job done but it was quite complicated, according to my teacher it was because I'm left handed 😭
A toilet seat would make a great canvas. And a great conversation piece 😁
Art room tour????? I think it would be so cool because you have so much art supplies

The Jazza clip was a fav. Good job
Great video Rae! Love seeing the way you adapt using the hardware store supplies to a way that works for you! The final piece looks beautiful 😊
So much fun to watch as usual! Great job on the painting!^^
I am always amazed how Rae makes masterpieces out of everything.
Love the Jazza reference
Love your videos soooo much! You have inspired me to make art! Love you( but not in a weird way)
We love a queen who stays away from more problematic Home Depot but uses their theme song ☠️😂
Pleaseee
please more videos like these ...doing hauls and then creating a artwork...I just love these!!
I swear watching the painting time lapse with the music and everything was SO MUCH FUN
I wish I could draw/paint like you but I don't really have the supplies 😭 anyways love you❤️‼️
i thought you were painting on a tortilla for a sec.
Girl I absolutely LOVE your makeup!! That green is everything 😭😭😭
The fact that the home Depot song is in the background, makes it so much better 🤣
Early can't wait to watch this amazing video
POV: you are so early there are more likes than views
Taking it back OLD school with the "Draw with Jazza" intro
I love, absolutely, LOVE the smell of fresh cut wood as well🤗 It always reminds me of my dad constantly building things when I was a little girl ☺️🥰
God I wish I was still into bullet journaling cause I would totally get that one!
Second💜

The satisfaction of watching a really good painter make a time lapse video of then painting is just 🤩 it’s so satisfying and makes me feel so happy.
The part where editing Rae cuts in cracked me up omg so relatable
idk why but the jazza red caught me off guard, so funny lol
rae: bumpin home depot music
rae: *goes to lowes*
Yep, painting with house paint, done that years ago, and yes, just like acrylic paint, lovely texture.
great looking birb!
the hardware store was actually a good place to get a lot of paint for cheap for college 😀 and pretty much all i used for brushes was the house painting ones lol
I love using wall hardware for back grounds and good paint for detailed things. It's so much cheaper
Jazza's intro in the background lmfaooo
omg yasss i am soooo excited to see it yay
Off topic comment: I nearly screamed with delight when I saw you wearing the Green Day Dookie album shirt. Yes!!
Same!!!!!
Love that she plays the Home Depot ad music with lowe’s
love the jazza cameo
i used house paint all the time. so much cheaper by the gallon and mixes just fine with my art paints too, along with those big brushes for the big areas. and for my white space areas. even use it in my flow art.
Lol...Definitely used that theme music like a BOSS LOL...GIRL I LOVE YA ❤️ 😍
Freshly cut wood does smell the best!
