I asked myself why Bach never made an application for a position as musician in Gotha, which was/is the main city in the proximity of all Bach’s youth locations in Thuringia. The answer is probably that in Gotha was already Stolzel. Most respected and admired by Bach himself. The wonderful “ Bist du bei mir “ in Anna Magdalena notebook, longtime considered I S Bach music, is actually by Stolzel. As many other beautiful pieces of music, previously attributed to I S Bach and as a matter of fact created by other contemporaries. The churches archives in Thuringia and Germany hide probably many surprises. I don’t think them as minor musician, just yet largely unknown. Bach is singular, but not alone in an extremely music producing/consuming epoch.
I wish people would just stop to treat old baroque music masters as modern "artists", always engaged in a contest in which one has to decide which one is the absolute best.
lanota just started to explore Telemann music what an enriching experience. Can’t agree Bach is ever a bore, his music puts me in a state of mind, almost trance like.
Grandiose Musik eines grandiosen Komponisten. 👍 👍 👍 👏 👏 👏 🙋
BRAVO BRAVO BRAVO... Telemann... Mertens... Nemeth!!! Merry Christmas to me! Thank you (and you). BRIAN
I have no clue of what is being said, but it's mesmerising .
not merely a 'prolific' composer, but of creative genius, well schooled and anointed of God as well? TeleBachHand
And Homilius? And Buxtheude?😁

Jolly Telemann fun. Must find the dots.
not my cup of tea. BACH is just too great to listen to this music more than once.

In comparison to Telemann, Bach is a bore. Bach's music is just too predictable and parochial.

lanota like to ask, do you have any favourite works or recommendations?
If I follow such line of thoughts then I too can say that Telemann is above Bach!
