Almost imperceptible, but around 6:15 and 6:55 the train tunnel is dipping down below the South Branch of the Chicago River: first at Lake Street, then at Congress Street.
Tone Thomas the ramp was retired in 2008 after the Pink Line took over in ‘06. They only use the ramp for non-revenue service to move the trains. Same thing happened to the 13th St portal that leaves the State Street subway to go to the South Side.
Wow I didnt know those old abandoned station has been closed over 40 years ago and its still standing to this day. Im still wondering when are the CTA planning on tearing it down?.
Uh what are you talking about? Between the stops the train gets up to speed with the traffic. Do you know how fast traffic is moving on the Kennedy there? That's not rush hour. It's going about 60-70 on average with the left lane going substantially faster.
I believe blue line max speed is 55. There was talk of getting it up to 70 but it never materialized. I just find it disappointing that going to ohare via car is generally faster and will be for the foreseeable future. Especially when commuter trains in japan, china, and europe run at speeds at over 300mph.
brulez123 Except when there's traffic. Like, I can guarantee that I'll be able to get to the airport in 50 minutes taking bus/blue line. A taxi can be 30 minutes or an hour and a half depending on traffic.
Do you realize how congested the Kennedy Expressway normally gets at rush hour? When my sister graduated from the University of Chicago in June 2013, she and I took the Blue Line from downtown to O'Hare. Our parents took a taxi. We beat them to the United check-in counters by at least half an hour.
The Blue Line made it possible for me to visit the Skybox at Willis Tower when I was in Chicago for work in September! Thanks CTA!!
This sure brings back memories.
The music is fire, not gonna lie 🔥
The Blue Line was extended to Jefferson Park in 1970. It was extended to Rosemont and O'Hare in 1983 and 1984 respectively.
Best subway service and all the buses in this Chicago area are the bestest transportation ever.

Union Station Connection Here: 6:55
I love this video
This video was released six years ago this year.
what did cta do with the tracks for the 54/cermak branch?
Tone Thomas they were turned into the pink line
I’m not sure. They retired the tracks when the pink line opened, but they use it nowadays for transfer 6-car trains.

I never knew there were still block signals in Dearborn subway, I thought the system was entirely ATC by now.

how do we get acces to download these videos?
Just type cta on RUclips and find the videos
I muted the music and slowed down the video. Found it more enjoyable that way.
They have real time videos with no music now.
Too bad the CA&E doesn't meet the CTA at Forest Park anymore.
Did you ever notice that some of the original tracks and poles and remains that are at the end of the line? We might explore it.
Yeah, I'm just headed to the freeway to catch my train :shudder: Shame that so much of your trackage is like that there.
Cool video but it's really sad how much faster the cars are compared to the 'L'.

brulez123 current rail line improvements will decrease travel time by 10 min when completed. Would be nice if trains ran 70mph.
why there are 2 heram
Jolie
3 stations (Washington, Monroe, & Jackson) all look like one really big station. What a waste of resources...
Those are the stations in downtown, they need to spread them out to make it more convenient
Just saying, at 0.25 speed the music sounds SUPER creepy
o hare has a airport
Owwoso
Yep
