🤬Sony blocked this video and the audio of the song was removed. This is so annoying because there are lots of channels that have this same video but ours was singled out.
Alexis has become a big Alice in Chains fan so today we did Would, a song written by Jerry Cantrell as a tribute to his friend Andrew Wood. @aliceinchains

Layne's voice is best described as SURGICAL. It is as sharp as a scalpel, cuts right through the flesh and goes straight to the soul.
I like that description! Good job Neil
Yep and he could project like an opera singer. His body type was built for it.
I think his ability to just do whatever he wants and it’s so freaking effortless…He is just so precise, yet his voice soars. The lyrics here aren’t particularly easy but he just grabs on and rides the wave. Stunning
😀I noticed what you did here... not sure if it was intentional, but it's very similar to a passage in the Bible.
"For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart."
I propose an Amendment. It's a good start, but i think it's a surgical laser because of how fiery Layne can get. Burns straight to the soul. The figurative one. The physical one some people talk about is silly.
Alexis said she wishes Layne was still here 🥺 Sis, you and me and a million other people 😢 "Love Hate Love" live at The Moore, Burch!
Layne’s voice will be always my favourite…. Gone too early RIP angry angel ❤
I remember driving my girlfriend to work in 1992 the first day this was released and hearing this being played on the radio. I remember the exact place on the freeway where we were at because I got goose bumps on my arms about 20 seconds into the song. There are only a handle full of tunes where I can remember the exact time and place I first heard a particular song. This is one of them.
Rooster was actually written by Jerry Cantrell for his dad
👍👍👍
Teacher says every time somebody is taught about Andrew Wood, an angel gets its wings.
Yeah, he deserves to be as famous as the "mainstream" Seattle legends. Andy's passing was such a huge loss to heavy music. MLB was such a cool band... It actually pisses me off that they're gone, just think of all that great music that could've been recorded by now - instead it never will. ;p
@@wildhog4251 Well said...and for me, you have to factor in "Love Rock". MLB wasnt just a rock band to me and the "Love Rock" they made is something that I rarely get a taste of. Janes Addiction does some...Blind Melon does some....but it's not like we were ever going to get enough without Andy and MLB. HUGE loss....and Im pissed too.
"BURRRRCH" ... I know I'm late on this one but wanted to share. I was fortunate to see AiC open for Van Halen in October 1991 at the Capital Center in Largo MD on VH's For Unlawful Carnal Knowledge tour. They were completely unheard of at that time. Man in the Box was only on the radio for 2 weeks and their video for that song hadn't hit MTV yet. They played a 45min set to an entire empty arena as people were busy on the concourse buying merch and beers. Only the first 3 rows were full from their supporters who followed them around the country from Seattle. I stayed in my seat not knowing who these guys were but let me tell you, the moment Layne Stayley opened his mouth and belted that first vocal note I was blown away. The dude was an absolute behemoth on the mic and when VH finally took the stage, I couldn't stop hearing Layne in my head. He was that good. I went out that same week and bought their first album. When "Dirt" came out a year later, i was lifelong hooked. Legendary band!
It's very hard to explain Layne's voice, but it's unforgettable
The Angry Angel🤘
It's like a combination of Fergie and Jesus
If she hasn't heard of Chris Cornell that needs to change IMMEDIATELY!!! The amount of amazing material he put out: Soundgarden, Temple of The Dog, Audioslave, solo material it's astounding one man could be involved in so much greatness.
I love WOULD!! Rooster was about Jerry's dad
It's a damn shame this guy is gone. Such a talent. Amazing voice. Top rock voice of all time in my opinion.
Man in the Box and LOVE, HATE, LOVE live at THE MOORE
YES!!!!!
For sure !!
Layne was a force of nature! Simply phenomenal!! That's about all...
When he was healthy...Layne could blow you out of the room. He was so POWERFUL
TEMPLE OF THE DOG, "HUNGER STRIKE" WITH CHRIS CORNELL AND EDDIE VEDDER DUET!! IT'S BEAUTIFUL!! 😊💓🤘✌️
Alice in Chains is my favorite of the Seattle bands for the exact reasons you described. While I liked Pearl Jam n Nirvana fine, Alice's sound just resonated with me.
Bleed the Freak at the Moore theatre. Total banger with Layne at his most powerful.
Totally agree!! 😊
This is my favorite band of all TIME, MAN IN THE BOX, and ESPECIALLY LOVE, HATE, LOVE, those 2 guys harmonization is GREAT, BLENDS so well
You guys should react to ''Love Hate Love'' , the live at the Moore version! Insane display of the power Layne has in his voice...
Layne and Jerry both, EXCELLENT LIVE PERFORMERS
"Love Hate Love" live at the Moore should be next. And I agree with Burch. I see AIC as more of a rock band than straight grunge. Just listen to "We Die Young". That intro riff always gets my head banging!
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE, do the Live version of this song (Love Hate Love)....
PLEASE
It depends on the way you look at grunge. If you look at grunge as a genre, than imo no bands are really “grunge”. But grunge is more of just a collection of bands than a specific genre, so when you look at it that way, aic can be considered grunge. Its hard to consider grunge a genre when bands like AIC, MLB, mad season, screaming trees, nirvana, PJ, SG, etc. are all considered grunge. These bands are for the most part different genres, yet they all fit under the label of “grunge” because grunge was really just a word to describe the rock scene in seattle during the early 90s.
This is sooooo good. ANC is one of my top top shelf favs. Gives me Chills every time I hear them. Just to add to your comment Burch, Grunge wasn’t so much a sound but more the scene. Y nailed it when you said they were all friends but were also working musicians that were super supportive of each other. Grungy because they mostly had thrift store clothes. The flannels, torn tshirts and jeans. And of course the famous Doc Martins. So they were “grungy looking” I guess. Anywho, keep on rockin guys!!! Love this channel
-MA
Saw AIC when they opened up for Van Halen during the F.U.C.K tour. They were dialed in and great live. Great vibe live.
You need to check out Alice In Chains Live at the Moore Theatre Seattle. The whole band is in great form here. Love, Hate, Love, Man in the Box, every song is a Banger. I saw them live when I lived in Seattle in the 90s. This performance is what I think of when I remember them live.
Sea of Sorrow is another great rock and roll tempo song like this. Love AIC!
"Them Bones" next!
This is one of their best songs for sure. For many years, I didn't know this song was about Andrew Wood of Mother Love Bone.
Love Alice and Chains. Mad Season. And Mother love bone.
Definitely would enjoy you guys doing Love, Hate, Love and I Stay Away. Yall keep rockin! 🤘🏻😎🤘🏻
Miss Layne so much….he was a true force of nature. Thanks for the great reaction.
Sounds like some Chris Cornell reactions are next? Miss him too…
One of my two favorite Grunge era bands....the other being STP.
STP was rock from San Diego….not grunge
@@DPRyan-vd5pp
That why I purposely used the word “era”, not genre.
@@kdm71291 my bad, but at least you’re aware that STP isn’t grunge, which is a “talking to a wall argument” with certain people! Lol
My favorite AIC song. Got to see them once on 1991-Nov-04 on the Van Halen/ Alice In Chains "For Unlawful Carnal Knowledge" (F.U.C.K.) tour @ Toronto Skydome. Paid $35.50 for my ticket! Those were the days!
This is by far my favorite non-acoustic Alice in Chains song. That driving opening bass line, the mix of both voices during the song, and Layne's high pitch wail pre solo get me every time. I absolutely love their MTV unplugged stuff too, and I think Jar of Flies is just brilliant. Anything from that album is worth doing..
Love Hate Love live from the Moore has to be next. Greatest live performance I have ever seen.
Love Hate Love live at the Moore is fantastic, but you really can’t go wrong with anything they did. Great reaction, guys!
She would love the song "Love Hate Love"
I second that!
If so, make sure it is the live version.
Actually I’m not a fan of that tune, there’s plenty too like about AIC
But love love kinda sucks
Certainly one of my favorite AIC songs. Layne just had one of those voices, like Chris Cornell and Chester Bennington. Unfortunately all are gone. R.I.P.
Like Burch mentioned Guitarist Jerry Cantrell wrote this song for the late lead singer of Mother Love Bone, Andrew Wood, a very influential figure in the Seattle music scene. Wood died of a heroin overdose in 1990. Two of his band mates in Mother Love Bone, Stone Gossard and Jeff Ament, went on to form Pearl Jam.
In the liner notes for the 1999 Music Bank Alice in Chains box set, Cantrell wrote that the song is about Wood but also about those who would judge Wood's drug issues. "But I always hate people who judge the decisions others make," Cantrell writes. "So it was directed towards people who pass judgements.
Did ya'll know that the shirt that Layne is wearing? Andrew Wood gave Layne the shirt off his back. Layne didn't have a sweater, and he was cold. So Andrew gave him his.
This song when I haven’t heard it for a while make me tingle
Me too! Describing my experience
Jerry has said that during soundcheck there were times when Layne would be singing without a mic while the band was playing and you could hear him like he had a mic...
Such a great song.
Bass players love this song! It's so fun to play. I play bass in a 90s cover band and this is one of my FAVORITES that we play. I even have a specific bass and pedal I use only for this song because I love it so much! That Mike Starr tone is not easy to achieve, that's for sure.
Written for the film 'Singles.' Also happens to be AiC's best single, in my opinion. A real 90s classic.
You really need to do a reaction video to the Mad Season song River of Deceit, I’m thinking she would really appreciate Layne’s voice and expression in that song.
React to 'Mad Season - Wake Up' (Live at the Moore, Seattle, 1995). Guitarist Mike McCready of Pearl Jam, lead singer Layne Staley of Alice in Chains, drummer Barrett Martin of Screaming Trees, and bassist John Baker Saunders.
She doesn’t know chris cornell ???????? Well like a stone is a must RIGHT?!?!?! 🍪🍪🍪🍪🍪
There about 30 other songs you put before like a stone.
@@ry-land-to say the least 30…
This is my favorite AIC-song. You guys should also look into reacting to Erik Grönwall's (former lead singer of Heat and Skidrow) covers.
"Dirt" is one of those albums that are sublime from start to finish, you can't really go wrong regardless of the song you pick. Apart from that album, I think "God Am", "I Stay Away", "We Die Young" & "Man In The Box" are songs that everybody should hear at least once, as well as their "MTV Unplugged".
And Alexis need to hear "Chloe Dancer/Crown Of Thorns" by Mother Love Bone and "Say Hello 2 Heaven" by Temple Of The Dog. And don't get me started when it comes to Pearl Jam & Soundgarden... much love from Sweden. ;)
She should hear “Love hate love” live. Great performance!!
Please introduce this young lady to temple of the dog and Chris Cornell. Love your channel
Probably my favorite song of all time.
Just the best Alice in Chains song - don't forget about their acoustic set!
Those are the ones I mentioned right at the front that we did and they got blocked! Nothing new, a ton of our stuff gets blocked. That's the way it goes sometimes 😂
@@flickeringboxofficial I'm wondering if taking more pauses to critique/discuss during the song might prevent that. I'm not sure what RUclips's monitoring algorithm does to determine the blocking. Unless it's the record company themselves requesting the block?
On the Sap ep by Alice In Chains Layne sings with Ann Wilson of Heart. On the songs called "Brother" and "Am I Inside."
And note, although "Would?" is on Dirt, it was originally released on the Singles soundtrack.
In order to understand this time period, you must watch the movie Singles!!! Written and directed by Cameron Crowe, it has members of Pearl Jam, Sound Garden, among others from Seattle during this time.
Layne is my favorite rock vocalist (Marvin Gaye is my favorite...ya can't beat Marvin). His voice is unexplainable to me too...he just touched me like no one else since. As a former heroin addict (who was struggling the same time Layne was), AIC just means so much to me. They saved me & I can't thank them enough for making this music that got me through those times. It's been 24 years now since I last used & every day I owe to this music & this band
It’s just so hard to comprehend how amazing the grunge & alternative music was at that time and so distinct in their sounds!
I knew Mike Starr in Salt Lake City about six months before he passed. Super nice guy. Very sad ending. RIP.
Jerry Cantrel sings on their song "Heaven beside you"...good tune
Ok tune.
have you done man in a box? also them bones, sea of sorrow, and it ain't like that, love you guys!!!
AIC is my favorite band. They hold a special place in my heart. You guys should check out some of their more underrated or lesser known songs. Here are my suggestions: Bleed the Freak, Again, Brush Away, Sunshine, It Ain't Like That... just casually add those to the list with their usual highly requested bangers haha I love yalls reactions! So glad I found your channel. Keep em coming!
Bleed the Freak live at the Moore had one of the best live performance screams you'll ever hear. You won't believe that it was done in real time with no editing. Legend says that screams still echoes in that room to this day.
Edit: typo
show her "Love Hate Love" live at the Moore 91 pleaseee Burch! ✌🏻
Rooster is about Jerry Cantrell's father, it was his nickname. You should listen the album version of Down In A Hole, you would see it has nothing to do with Nirvana, it's probably because it's the unplugged version you heard. Layne was and is still my all-time favorite singer, songs to do, Bleed The Freak, Man In The Box, Sea Of Sorrow, Them Bones, Angry Chair, Rooster, Rain When I Die, Rotten Apple, No Excuses, Don't Follow, I Stay Away, Right Turn (with Chris Cornell of Soundgarden and Mark Arm of Mudhoney), Am I Inside (with Ann Wilson of Heart)
One of the best singers and bands of all time. I saw them live numerous times and laynes voice was incredible live.
Burch, you and I are the same age and we seem to love the same music. The 1980s were a great time to be a teen. You got to react to the song Again by AIC. It's killer. If you haven't done already, Love Hate Love is also awesome. With each sound uttered by Layne emotion flowed like a river. Good videos!
It's amazing cuz Layne warned e v e y o n e "I need help" in an album called Dirt.
I remember the day I heard he was found dead.
What a loss to his friends and family..and to music as a whole.
You guys should do a reaction to the movie Singles from 1992 with Matt Dillon, Bridget fonda takes place in Seatle and Eddie Vedder is in it...Alice un chains sings Would in a bar.
ok, I'm subscribed! More Alice in Chains!
As someone who is OBSESSED with Tool, AIC, Zeppelin, SRV, but also oddly enough K-pop coming across you guys’ channel. This is rad. You guys should check out Jerry’s song “My Song” at some point.
I didn't get into the Grunge era. But I did like bits and pieces. My son however is 13. Loves AIC. My wife had a little accident with the car last week. The car might be totaled by the insurance. My son said " Get my Alice in Chains CD out of the car". 😂
Please listen to him sing Love Hate Love live. Its incredible
If you wanna show her the real range of Layne's singing skills, check out AIC's Sunshine
That whole first album was just crazy
Love Hate Love is Layne at his best. Haunting and powerful.
Bleed the Freak is super underrated and one of my favorites
Rooster was about Jerry’s dad.
I thought it was his uncle but it's been a while since I have been down that road. Thanks for clarifying
The secret of vocals in this band is using harmony with interval secondo. It means one semitone between them.
"You've heard of Chris Cornell..."
*head shake*
*heart break*
One of their best songs
The greatest song of the Grunge era. Most people will say Teen Spirit, and I get that, but this just is haunting and filled with so much pain.
Laynes voice is absolutely incredible you should do love hate love the live version
Watch Live at the Moore. Layne’s voice is for real and not manufactured. Dude was insanely talented!!
Incredible song.
Sunshine is their most underrated song!!
It’s hard to believe 50% of this band is gone.
She should watch Singles if she hasn't yet. Great movie.
This was on the SOUNDTRACK for the movie SINGLES, I bought for the less than 2 minutes of their LIVE performance, and they won a Grammy for best live performance in a movie for it
Layne cannot be replaced, immortal. Jerry is the best songwriter and singer as well
According to Xana la Fuente (gf of Andrew Wood), the shirt Layne wears in this video was Wood's. She wrote that she gave it to Layne on a rainy day when he needed a dry shirt not long after Andrew's death. I can't confirm any of this but it definitely makes for a nice story. AIC were on another level. I respect them carrying on after Layne but most of Alice died with him. RIP Layne, Mike, Andrew...all the others.
Rest in peace Mike Starr and Layne, tormented souls
Yup, WOULD is about ANDREW WOOD of MOTHERLOVEBONE, and Eddie Vedder was kind of Andrew's replacement and they changed the name to PEARL JAM
They say layne’s voice was powerful that it was louder than what they speakers were putting out.
My very favorite Alice in Chains song.
This song is aimed directly at those who pass judgment on others who have never experienced what they're going through.
This has always been my favorite Alice In Chains song.
Layne is wearing Andrew Wood’s orange sweater in the music video. So sick
I Stay Away and No Excuses for a couple more well known Alice In Chains reactions, please Burch...🤘👽🤘
1st song on my playlist when i go ride.
Rooster is about Jerry's dad, not uncle.
You are correct, my bad.
Burch you should turn Alexis on to Chris Cornell since she hasn't heard him before. RIP Layne, Jerry, & Chris 🙏✌️
