Control Denied was not only a side project, it was the band Chuck meant to continue with, playing 'not so heavy/death metal' stuff with another vocalist, Death's former bassis Steve Di Giorgio and Death's final line-up drummer and guitarist. I read somewhere that indeed some music from 'The Sound of Perseverance' was originally written for Control Denied.
Chuck is the main reason I started playing guitar finally at 32 years old. I’m 8 months in and not looking back. I hope to sound as good as u do one day 🤘🏻
So damn good. The main reason I picked up my guitar and started writing riffs in this style and I can make it flow freely for once and not feel forced. I love your content so much!
The abrupt 180° changes in good metal is one of the most satisfying parts of it all, pop songs are like a kiddy "rollercoaster" ride, music that focuses on skill and technical creativity and breaking anticipation is what makes it feel so fun to not have expected what you're gonna hear next, all within the confines of understanding what people mean when they say a lot of metal sounds the same. Technical musicians in metal remind me so much of the intricate wordsmithing and fast frantic precise rhythmic flows rappers have, it feels like I love hip hop artists like Busta Rhymes and Tech N9ne and Eminem and jazz bands like Snarky Puppy and anything fast and technical for the same reasons I love metal so much, fast technical music for music-heads is just so satisfying to me. I appreciate the intense musical effort and ride of controlled chaos.
Your right hand technique is absolutely unbelievable. You appear to hold the pick quite flat against the strings, I rotate mines more to have less resistance, I don't know how you're able to play it so fast, precise and accurate. Can't wait for part 3!
Amazing job! It sounds incredible. I'm a beginner at guitar, i got a little less than a year of experience, but I have a lot of fun trying to play the easier parts of their tracks (currently trying some parts of Flesh And The Power It Holds!) , they're truly unique. Thank you for these no distortion videos!
Chuck was and forever will be the BEST. with all respect to other creators what he did was so so special. Vocals, Lyrics, Unique guitar solos. Everything.
Chuck only had the wildest, craziest musicians with him - Chris Reifert, Steve DiGiorgio, Terry Butler, Bill Andrews, Sean Reinert, Paul Masvidal, Gene Hoglan, Andy LaRocque, Bobby Koelble's only metal appearance.... You can just google the bands the other members of Death were involved in and you will learn SO much about how extreme metal became a thing.

I have never been a massive fan of Death but my god the guitar work is beautiful. Chuck was an amazing writer who had influenced many guitarists. May his memory live on forever.
I went to school with Chuck, saw him in his first band. He asked me to join his second band after he quit the other. We were 16 or 17 back then. I realized this guy had serious skill and talent when we would get together and he had figured out note for note full songs from Maiden and Priest along with others. He soon tired of my petty guitar skills and told me he joined another band over the weekend. That band became Death. He played a tape of some practice songs and asked us not to laugh when we heard him sing. We did though, since real thrash was just breaking out in the early 80's. We had never heard anything like that. I never liked Deaths music but Chuck was always a great guy. Alot of us hear in Fla still remember Chuck well as a friend. I see his old house where he lived while in school still today. CHUCK RIP you gøpeioys Muther Fucker of a Brother ,you were a natural Wagner of Death Metal.

It’s so rare that one of the pioneers of a genre actually achieves such a level of perfection that they remain one of the greatest in that genre, even decades later. So many bands get labeled as the “greatest” in a genre simply because they started it and have name recognition, but Death is actually up there. I’m really loving Inferi lately though, and I think it’s because their guitar work is genuinely artful and strongly reminiscent of Death. Eerily beautiful and melodic, but without the typical power metal-esque cheesiness I find in so much melodeath

Spiritual Healing gave me a couple chills lol
