    Many thanks for helping this elderly amateur cook to limit food waste while learning how to use convection oven and air fryer. These new fangled machines have great potential for faster and more appealing results, but can be disappointing until you dial them in by trial and error. The content in this video should eliminate a lot of the error. So well presented!
    I recently tried a basket style air fryer and the first eight results were all things I could have done much better or faster in a plain oven or on stovetop. Switched to a vortex plus 10qt influenced by effective demos in other Lana videos, and by this video's hints to harness my old experience. First try in vortex came out just right. Grateful to Lana.

    More awesome tips, thank you! I was doing a recipe last night and knew I had to reduce the temp but guessed. When it doubt I use the nmiddle rack. lol Glad I saw this video for a better understanding of what to do. One thing I don't understand about the Vortex oven is that the air fry and bake are the only one's that have "turn food" display around 1/2 time. My idea of broil is turning food. Not that it matters much, it just had me wondering why they did that. Another tip that I may have seen in one of your other videos but not mentioned here, it that you can use an empty rack and put it in the oven at a higher spot to deflect some of the heat (instead of foil) if need be.

    • @LanaUnderPressure

      Hi, so glad my videos could help. It's really trial and error but I find it's why more trail and a lot less error when you have a guide to help. Broil is really for browning the top so it won't alert you to turn the food, but you still can. And yes the tray on top to deflect air flow came from me. I use that trick for baked goods a lot.

      @@truthhurtz2793 believe it or not I use the Vortex plus more than the Omni plus. Using tin foil over the drip tray and door when flipping food or rotating trays makes cleaning the vortex plus so easy. My air fried wings seem to come out better in the Vortex plus. I use one rack at the very bottom on my Vortex plus wings come out perfectly every time. I wish Omni plus had the same non stick baking tray rack as the Vortex plus, instead of the air fry basket. So far I've done some great baking in my Omni plus. But, I'm really enjoying the compact size of the Vortex plus on my counter top. I was expecting the Omni plus to be made of the same metal as my microwave. Shocked it wasn't especially when they quote a regular price of $400. If you do buy the Omni plus, catch a good sale. My Omni plus was a early Christmas gift. I didn't wait till Christmas to use it.

    I realize this is old news for you, but I am still learning how to use my Omni-plus. :) And our oven just broke and it will be a few weeks for the parts to come in. D'oh! Anyway, I'm going to cook a pre-seasoned and stuffed pork loin (they were on sale at the store, lol) for dinner tonight and I've been looking and looking for recipes that *aren't* rotisserie. Since it is stuffed, I need to cook it in a dish. (Normally I cook them in a glass 8x8 dish- but I'm just not sure if I can get away with that in an air fryer!). So I've been searching how to cook this crazy thing. I remembered your RUclips channel and stumbled across this AWESOME tutorial!! Thank you SO MUCH!! Maybe I won't fail at the pork loin tonight now, lol! I even took loads of notes! :) I really appreciate you taking the time to lay all this out. I forgot how much I enjoy your channel! :) I hope you have a fabulous day and thank you again! You just saved dinner! :)

    25 percent of time in your conversion is 1/4th. Which means that to convert conventional oven time to convection oven time, divide the time by 4. So, in the case of 60 minutes time, divide 60 minutes by 4 to get the 15 minutes of time difference.

    • @LanaUnderPressure
      @LanaUnderPressure  3 года назад +1

      Right, that's what I explained. However, as a math teacher I know most people shy away from conversions, %, and fractions other than 1/2. So the easiest way to explain it for non math folks is take 1/2 then take half again and subtract. Same thing as 25% or 1/4.

    Thank you so much!!! I used your reviews to decide on the Omni Plus vs. other air fryers/toaster ovens as well as my experience with the other Instant Pot appliances I own. My absolutely wonderful sister bought the Omni Plus for me for my birthday and I’ve only had it a few days. Your channel and your website are extremely helpful. The instructions that come with the oven are terribly lacking, as is the Instant Pot website and your info has been fantastic. I’ve made a digital list with links to some of your explanatory videos as well as a list of the different modes and how they work, time and temp conversions and links to the accessories. While I knew that I could much figure out eventually, your videos and blog have saved me so much time and helped to much more quickly clarify so many things which I found confusing. Your information is invaluable! One question though - where is the link to the 12” x 8” casserole pan? Thank you again and please keep making videos on the Omni.

      Hi. Sorry it took me so long to respond. I usually reply very quickly.
      Hi. When baking I usually use the Bake function with the rack in the bottom level. Then I use a cookie sheet. Use whatever directions are for a traditional oven but decrease the temp by 25 degrees and the time by 25%. Also, as they get brown use the drip tray on the top level to defuse the air flow so they don't over brown.

      It is an air fryer oven so other than the toast or proof function, the fan is always on. However, on roast and bake you can lower the fan. I will say if you ahve an IP it makes the most amazing BBQ ribs and then I finish them in the oven or air fryer oven.

    Couple of questions , I took your advise and preheat the oven in bake since it used both elements so when I air fry it won’t take so long to warm up but why is it that when it is already at 350 degrees and I push cancel and change to AF 350 degrees it does preheat again and takes a while too? What is the trick to made changes to temp and time when the oven is already in use ? I think you said push start but that didn’t work . I have been pushing cancel and re entering the new time and temp . But that makes it reheat all over ! Thanks for advice

    • @LanaUnderPressure
      @LanaUnderPressure  3 года назад

      Hmmm, when I want to change the time or temp in the middle of cooking, I simply turn the temp or time knob without canceling first. That should work. Preheat is not based on temperature inside but it's a preset time (I think like 4 mins). So anytime you restart a cooking process it will automatically preheat unlike a regular oven.

    • @LanaUnderPressure
      @LanaUnderPressure  3 года назад

      Great question. A convection oven typically has the fan at the back or the side. So it heats the air then circulates it. A true air fryer has the fan directly above the heating elements so it actually pushes the hot air onto the food then circulates it so it acts more like frying with air.
