Holy cow! I had no idea that Reston was a lake town or that it had a zoo. What an amazing community. It sounds like there is something for everyone in Reston! Love your videos!
Oh I miss Reston. I lived there from 1977 until 1989. The greatest town I’ve ever lived in. I miss all of the natural beauty and all of the wonderful memories I had.
Hi Tara...Reston sure has changed a lot since then, but the core ideals remain the same. Lots of growth around the urban core, but all that natural beauty remains throughout north and south Reston. Thanks for watching!
Reston is the matrix. If you want the standard run of the mill lifestyle(work all week, spend money on the weekends) move to Reston. They love catering to people who want to spend those big NOVA paychecks. Trust me. A sliver of a townhouse there is $650,000. Fairfax country property tax is high. Reston association dues are high. I grew up there, class of ‘92, now I live in Hawaii 16 years, and when I go back I’m glad I left. My mother still lives there. Reston Town Center charges for parking now, because they know the area is rolling in cash, and it’s the only thing to do in Reston after dark, so... The bicycle paths are great, as are all the heavily mulched tree plantings all over. Don’t move to Reston without a 100k per year salary. That’s very realistic, if you arent making that much you will struggle there.
Thanks for your contribution, Puna. I'm glad that you found a place in Hawaii that you love. It's true that Reston is not for everyone. While we love it here, we try to keep it real and covered both the pros and cons here in this video: ruclips.net/video/rj5B1OisRMY/видео.html . Hey there...we have lived here since 1996 and we're in our fourth year of real estate. Reach out if you have any questions, we'd love to help you! 703-231-7049 - Kathy 😊
Thanks for watching and commenting. I've always thought that there must be a caveat to the phrase "first planned community," which is mentioned in reference to Reston frequently. You're comment has me looking for the source of this statement. Here is a reference to a talk given by Reston's founder, Robert E. Simon, saying "the nation's first large-scale planned community that changed the face of the suburban landscape in America." patch.com/virginia/reston/bp--early-history-of-reston-creation-of-the-master-plan I guess that could be the caveat, though we'll still lookout for the source. :-) -Graham

Good to see the expansion of the metro making it easy to commute to work on mass transit and leave the cars at home. Thanks Kathy!
Yes, we need some more transit infrastructure to go with the Metro to reduce car culture even more, but we're getting there.
Thanks for sharing this great info about Reston! I had no idea it was so close to everything and had so many fun activities.
One of the best things about it...! 😀

While, indeed, it has been very influential for planned development; Reston was hardly the first planned community in the country.
