Wow your are an expert!! I just bought my Revox A77 yesterday and now listing to my father in laws tape that haven't bee played since the 1960s. Mine needs a complete upgrade. Nothing has been touched in this player so I will search for a repair shop, still the sound is great. Thank you for the video
I'm afraid my eyes will not allow me such work or even to attempt much more then a general cleaning. I am hoping to find a source to buy upgraded boards and install them myself. I think my neighbor can replace the Rifa spark caps. I have subscribed to your channel but understand English still the quality of your videos are enjoyable to watch and to learn by
Thank you again, there are new completed boards that you can buy on ebay and just replace them (slot-out the old, slot-in the new) but then the overall cost goes really high.
If you refer to the varispeed mod.......REMINDER: this mod works ONLY with the IC speed control board that was used for MK4 version. General rule is . So, with this mod the quality is not important if terms of producing audio artifacts. Not to mention that with 1-7/8 speed there could be produced some very interesting artifacts (big delay time). With normal audio recording you can increase the recording quality by increasing the top speed of your recorder, BUT.....the speed after that will NOT be standard thus you will be able to playback the tape only on your machine. When not using the varispeed the audio quality is not affected.
generally yes PB yes but will not record correctly. You will have to change the oscillator board (but there are rumors it is not absolutely necessary). After the change you will have to recalibrate the machine. Check here (it's for B77 but it's the same situation) www.tapeheads.net/threads/revox-b77-2-track-to-4-track-conversion-question.49613/

How will this mod work on a 1-7/8 - 3-3/4 ips model A77 ? Will the sound quality be much worse ?
