Looks like a fun course. Is it the one where michael douglas went all doolally in falling down? I was out today for a quick 9 holes at the mighty gifford. Lovely weather in scotland right now.
It’s beautiful, but fairways are too wide, and the rough will be too short as show in another video. Sadly, it’s already Indicative of another US Open where it will NOT be the toughest challenge they face of the year. And there will likely be a lot of players under par. I mean the Memorial Tournament last weekend will likely score tougher!
@@marcusdolby1 certainly hope it is around Even par! That'd be solid. But, it'd be nice to see a US Open again where the rough is a true penalty, and they have to either wedge or chip it out automatically. From that 3-4 inch bermuda, they'll still be able to go for the greens with mid irons, even if they do come in as knuckle balls. Winning score -12
@@SiLoMixMaster EXACTLY!! The USGA had better change things in the near future, or they're going to even further lose their reputation - and be known as the most clueless and ignorant organization in golf. Every year, for the last decade, the conversation has gone to complaints about the USGA's setup for the U.S. Open.
Let's hope they can get it firm and fast. Massive marine layer here in LA for the last month, zero sun. Fairways are much wider then a traditional US Open. I have a feeling they're going to go low!
The fairways are wider nominally, but they play much narrower due to significant slopes on most holes. The 13th fairway, for example, is 70 yards wide, but there is only a 25 yards slot on the left side of that fairway that will hold a tee shot. Anything right of that slot will roll to the right where a player won’t have a view of the green and/or roll into the rough. Despite the fairway width, a tee shot hit down the middle on #13 will end up in the right rough. All the wide fairways play this way.
If USGA makes rough grass long and thick, and speeds up greens to 14, and sets tees at very back, and narrows most fairways, and forms up course, and makes par at 70 or 69, then even par might be the winning score. Let's hope !!! ⛳
This course will be really getable by the pros if they can’t get it firm and fast. They also need to pinch in the fairways and grow the Bermuda rough to 4-5”. If not Erin Hills part 2.
The rough at LACC is Bermuda, so it naturally is not going to be as high as other types of rough. The Bermuda rough will be about 3” deep, which is as tough or tougher than other types of rough.
@@dorothygale1104 Players say they’d rather play in 8 inches of any other rough instead of 3 1/2 inches of Bermuda. The winner of this tourney is gonna be like -6.
@@hoyit My game is not at the level of Tour pros, but I agree with them about not wanting to hit out of Bermuda rough. I’ve okayed LACC-North several times (a work colleague is a member) and the Bermuda rough is normally between 2-3” and I personally would rather take my chances hitting out of the barranca than hit out of that Bermuda. Having said that, the Bermuda fairways provide for the most perfect lies.
Both of the long par 3’s play down grade from the tee, especially #11 with the green 40 feet below the tee. So neither #11 nor #7 play as long as the yardage indicates. The same is true for the longest par 4’s, which play down grade and/or downwind. In the 2017 Walker Cup, US team members hit long iron tee shots on the two long par 3’s and played the 542 yards, par 4 #16 with driver and 5-6 iron for 2nd shots. Cameron Champ played that hole with 3-wood and 6 iron to the green. There is a lot of slope on this course, which combined with prevailing ocean breezes have a big effect in how long holes play. #18 at 490 yards plays very slightly up grade (almost level) but it plays directly into the prevailing ocean breezes. So, it plays longer than the 542 yard #16 and the 520 yard #17, especially in the afternoon when the ocean breezes pick up.
Totally agree. It’s a shame they didn’t narrow the fairways more. I like when the US Open winning score is near even. Makes it more interesting. Only thing they can hope to get is lightning fast greens. The rough will definitely be penal if they do find it though since it’s bermuda. We will see how it goes!
So the R&A and USGA are seeking to roll back the golf ball...yet at the same time they are going to have major championship with 2 par 3's at ~ 290 yard and a few par 4's at well over 520 yards. What king bad weed are this old farts smoking? To hit these green and have them hold reasonably...so that a putt could be made for par is going to require some luck. After all did you all see those breaks? Green running at ~ 10-11...yah pull my finger.
You obviously are not aware that the ball distance rollback has not yet taken effect. So, this course will be played with the current technology. The two long par 3’s are down grade from the tee, especially #11 with the green 40 feet below the tee. So they play shorter than the yardage indicates. The longest par 4, #16 at 542 yards, plays down wind & down grade. During the 2017 Walker Cup, US team members played that hole with driver and 5-6 iron 2nd shots. Cameron Champ played it with 3-wood and 6 iron. Significant fairway slopes and wind direction play a huge part in how long holes at LACC play. #18 at 490 yards, for example, is slightly uphill and plays directly into the prevailing ocean breezes, so it plays longer than the holes that are 520-540 yards. #1 at 578 yards is directly downwind and plays much shorter than its yardage. There will be drives of 350-400 yards (maybe longer) on that hole, especially in the afternoon when the ocean breezes pick up.
I had such an amazing time these past 4 days at LACC. The course is absolutely amazing and I had so much fun with friends and family.

L.A.C.C. is a mythical course for us local golfers. We all talk about it but very few have played it.
with the varying lengths, looks like a true test and not purely just a bomb and gouge

One of best I’ve ever seen. ❤
someone at the USGA is listening. much improved presentation
and have been taking lessons in johnny miller hole by hole flyover school
Love the video/content/idea - do more of these! But having a great narrator would make it elite.
Looks epic 👌 Rory,brooks,rahm
Looks like a very tough coarse!
That fairway slope on the par 5 8th is NUTS
+ once you hit the fairway, you may have to hit a draw from a slice lie… great hole design
Great editing. 7th hole is my favorite despite being a 280 yard par 3 😅
Lotta longer irons into greens with large odd shaped bunkers. I foresee a lot of bunker play in this tournament.
bent greens and bermuda fws/rough is very unique
A 290 yard par 3? Oh nah. That's just nutty. Guys gonna hit 3-woods?
