@@LondoncycleroutesWill be back certainly to give it a go. btw I was just wondering how the maker of the wonderful map manages to put all your many routes on the same map with Google Maps? Tried googling the skill over and over again with no luck.
I lived in the student accomodation you can see just off packenham street last year. it was nice to see the construction site replace the cycle lane that was there before they started work. Also worth bearing in mind that torrington place can get a little busier, september -may especially, with students heading to UCL and SOAS, but it’s still much nicer than riding down guildford street which can be busier.
This is awesome, basically covers my route to work but you gave me some ideas about how I might tweak it! I don't know how much more work this would be for you so maybe not feasible and certainly not necessary given that you also provide the links, but for me it would be a lot easier to follow your route especially in the twisty-turny bits if you had a little map in the corner of the vid showing where you are as you're going along, rather than/in addition to the street names appearing on the screen
I’ve thought about doing this before but the issue is making it big enough to be really useful without taking up too much of the screen… couldn’t really make it work in a way I was happy with
Another fab video. Also nice to ride with you on bits I know reasonably well. Camden and Islington are so good. Meanwhile out in Hertfordshire, some areas are better than others and some (looking at you Potters Bar and Hertsmere) have virually nothing. So London is doing the right thing and lots of it. Now if they could only do a fast safe cycle route from New Southgate station to Kensington (Imperial College) for my eldest daughter. There's a long route for you!
If I had to do that journey, I'd probably be locking up at New Southgate Station, taking Thameslink to Farringdon, then the Elizabeth Line to either Bond Street or Paddington, then hop on a Santander bike the rest of the way. But I don't like to do long rides if I have to do anything else that day. edit-I seem to have ignored the existence of the Picadilly Line, locking up at Arnos Grove would probably make more sense.
Ooo that’s potentially a tricky one, even getting over the A406- Barnet we’re actually planning some kind of cycleway that would have improved the beginning but I’m not sure what’s happened to the plan. I will investigate!!
@@Londoncycleroutes re the A406 there is a ramped bridge between Atlas Rd and Orion Rd with paths linking from Friern Bridge open space to Alexandra Rd. Open Street map says this is mostly ok for cycling but I've not been through to see the detail. Alexandra Road then Grosvenor Rd and Grove Road (shown on Open Street map cycle as a route being developed) then gets you to Ally Pally and I assume from there southwards there are more options on to Finsbury Park and beyond. It's probably too long route for one video, so you'll have to do a three parter with suspense filled "To be continued" endings.
Hertsmere's Local cycling and walking infrastructure plan (LCWIP) is currently being developed before the consultation stage www.hertfordshire.gov.uk/about-the-council/consultations/transport-and-highways/lcwips-2022/lcwips-2022.aspx It will be interesting for us with our Potters Bar venues at Furzefield Leisure Centre and Dame Alice Owen's School🏑🏑
Loved it! I just got very high speed internet (I was using a low speed plan before) and the resolution shows. I really enjoyed 'riding with you' albeit I had to halve the playback speed sometimes, just to get a better feel of the traffic risk. Something that really stands out to me compared to North Am riding (in most cities, albeit there are rare exceptions) is how you can maintain your speed w/o concern of 'door prizes'. I don't know if you're discounting the risk, or if London drivers are more considerate/careful of cyclists, but I watch with great envy. Yet again, the routes you choose allow me to yearn for a return to London....with bike. I thoroughly enjoyed that, I followed along with the map up in one tab, the journey in another and toggled back and forth to associate the locales with the map co-ordinates.
The door thing is definitely a risk! I think it depends on the street and how narrow it is - I usually try and ride at least a couple of meters from the doors though it’s I’m sure they’ll get me one day! That’s great to hear about the quality by the way - I think the videos are looking better than ever! I always wonder what settings people watch on
It might not be perfect, but at least they take cycling and transit seriously in your country. In Canada, the bike is an afterthought, and don't get me going on transit. Montreal is an exception.
@@Londoncycleroutes It is a 6 hour flight from London. You can't take bikes on the metro, but you can on local trains. You can't on intercity trains going west. By that I mean THE train. One set of tracks too. We are changing, but it is left to the relatively powerless local governments, who never have enough money. So many people are afraid of London, so please keep up the enthusiastic vids on getting around by bike!
I got a new phone recently so now have space for apps... Will download the one you use, as I think this overlaps with one from before I wanted to do. It's strange as I thought I knew Islington, as the 19 from mine goes there, when I first moved to London & got busses. But I don't recognise so much of this route I should go up to Finsbury park x
@@Londoncycleroutes ha! I know the bars, record shops and found myself on the river one day, but there is a busy hill going up at the end I wasn't too keen on 🤣 and this might be near to another cut thru route around the back of an estate that leads to a dead end with a church. I don't even remember where I was going, it was dodgy, this square looks much nicer. I know from near the post office down the cycle path back to central x
Wow I actually found it, prebend st & at James church, dismounted to Essex road maybe then I found the river... Can't remember where I was going but some things remain from gmaps. I didn't like the route I did. Will see if I can memorise this one and the other sim area x
When the content is so good and informative, I really didn't notice the time. Also good to see the progressive councils staying one step ahead of the political dinosaurs. It's not an LTN, it's a livable neighbourhood.
That’s very kind and I’m glad you like the longer ones! Re the councils I should have said - one big benefit is when you get all the good ones bordering each other - virtuous circle/economies of scale!
This is very useful, thank you! Do you have any ideas for routes in the reverse direction which avoids the big hill going up towards Pentonville Road? I don't mind taking a more roundabout route.
I did this route yesterday, and it was great! Quiet rodes and good cycle lanes. I felt much safer riding around here than I usually do in my local area (Enfield) where cycle lanes are few and far between and cars sometimes get up close and personal. Just wondering if you could do a short video of a quiet route across town heading east to Liverpool Street? I caught the overground train back to Enfield from here, but Google maps just took me down all the busy main roads once I left Bloomsbury which wasn't nearly as pleasant as your original route. Thanks!
@@Londoncycleroutes Yes, Bloomsbury area, as that's where this cycle route ends - but if you think it would benefit more people coming from further west, that would be helpful too! Thank you so much! Love your channel, by the way - watch it all the time 😄

I rode almost exactly that route working at a conference in Bloomsbury earlier this year. Though these days I find it easier to cycle around rather than through Finsbury Park - my confidence has improved since starting cycling in 2020, and I also feel uncomfortable cycling through the park at night. There is a lot of ASB and also potholes that are too hard to see in the dark! Agree with you on the mini roundabout on St Ann's Road, especially coming from North Grove I think a lot of drivers don't even realise there's a cycle lane and an entrance to the roundabout, so they have to give way. And something needs to be done on Hermitage particularly around the school and bridge.
I've absolutely no problem watching longer rides - this one was great!
Thank you, very pleased to hear that! sometimes fun to go on a bit
