lack of passion? another kind of sensibility must be developed? some of you have a good sense of humour.I am guitarist,I play tango among other things and I am also a tango dancer and I can tell you that these two girls have everything in whatever they play, both of them. They have brains, fingers and heart.let's stop being jealous and enjoy perfection like this.
It just doesn't get any better than this. "Stunning musicality" precisely nails it. This duo sets new standards for what is possible with a guitar duo.
This is stunning musicality. The tired cliche of Asian players being apparently "soul-less" is well and truly debunked by this stunning performance. Both players have a wonderful variation in nuance and colour. The fact that they are both technically flawless just opens up the musical possibilities even more. When you are this assured you can concentrate on expression, dynamics, colour and phrasing. Thanks for uploading. This is guitar magic.
Part of the reason Asian players are stereotyped might be the way music is approached by communist governments. They tend to treat music as a form of state propaganda. Because they are ideologically opposed to individualism and romanticism one expects them to de-emphasize the feelings of both the student and the composer. Another source of the stereotype might be the thought that the music comes from a different culture. When white musicians play the blues they are sometimes characterized as shallow or soul-less. I don't say that these characterizations are correct.
Actually, this is pretty much soulles. The musical interpretation is here nothing more than following a certain pattern. A very well executed patterns nonetheless but still a mechanical approach toward music. Nothing really interesting happened here. Not once they explored the gap behind and between the notes. The reason for this is because they are not conditioned to major and minor scales. Chinese (Japanese as well) evolves around the 4th and the 5th. Now this may sound very negative but that is not the case. This is just really good but not so interesting and I can't blame them. It's a bit the same as when we try to play Chinese music: we can follow what the teacher tell us and play it according to what is written in the score, but that doesn't mean we can get to the bottom of the meaning of the piece simply because it's not in our blood so to speak to understand Chinese music. Now what is very good here is tone quality and the fact the fact they have both a very good free stroke (I myself only use free stroke as well because I can apply more color and you're able to articulate more precisely) to appoach this more positively.
+AllinTwilight soul and feeling is a myth created by those who suck at the instrument. These girls are introverted, which is why it may appear that they dont have any emotion, while underneath, they may be full of feelings. Whenever I see a girl or kid who is technically talented and can play fast, I always see idiots, saying, no feeling no soul, is nothing but a coping mechanism to feel better about yourself, and the fact that you suck at guitar, cannot play as good as them
Max
Absolutely fantastic! These two women should be on a world stage. I can't think how come I haven't seen this video before - it's favourited now. Bloody brilliant!
The slim lady on the left is an amazing guitarist, and the way she moves her fingers (left hand) is the epitome of perfection. Didn't liked this pice in particular, but these two ladies play brilliantly. You got my like!
Just FYI for those that says it’s emotionless because the lack of facial expression. When classical guitarists play its usually without facial expression, unless 1. For show, 2. Facial muscle twitch response due to the piece being too difficult and demanding for the hands. Another trivial fact, their teacher is Chen Zhi from Beijing music conservatory. All of the accomplished guitarists from China studied under him. However he didn’t even play classical guitar he played Hawaiian guitar. he uses video tapes of other guitar performers as tool to teach, this was during a time before the internet so the those Vhs tapes Mr. chen had was like a gold mine for young guitarists to study.
I don't want to hurl superlatives about but this is just staggering! Their synchronisation of inflection, timing, dynamics, in fact everything is of such a high order as to suggest telepathy. And such a lovely warm human performance behind all that precision. One of the all time great guitar duets.
Simply brilliant. Claims to the contrary spring from the deepest well of ignorance. Despite the attempts of commercialism to pervert them, the arts are not a competition, but a canvas for cultural and human expression. Let history decide who is to be credited with what, and in the meantime let us show reverence for beauty in all its forms.
Themorphetic ,there's no need for applauses in the middle of the suite, no matter how immensely beautiful is the interpretation of Piazzolla and all their work by this incredible brilliant duo.
Phenomenal playing by these two amazing ladies, a fantastic job on Piazzolla's Tango Suite. Very difficult piece, just to play through it is a feat, and to play it with this precision is nearly impossible! Bravo!!!!!
Bellissime!!
I'm 62 years old. I've had a guitar for 40 years and still only know 3 chords. Well actually, I know 4, I accidentally discovered the 4th one about a year ago. As soon as these beautiful girls finish their incredable playing, I going to put my guitar back in the closet.
A mi me sería imposible esforzarme tanto.
Thank you for the beautiful recording! Unfortunelly the end of the music is cut off, so the end of die piece is missing. If you will load up a complete version I am glad you let me know.
That was an excellent interpretation, I just want to add that this isn't "tango", it's "música contemporánea de Buenos Aires" (contemporary music of Buenos Aires). Tango is Anibal Troilo, Francisco Canaro, Edmundo Rivero, Roberto Goyeneche, etc..
skarch0 You're welcome :) It was written by Astor Piazzolla. I thing I've read somewhere that Pizzolla was inspired by Assad brothers' performance and wrote that piece specifically for them.

+skarch0 The Tango Suite was specifically written for the Assad brothers. Astor Piazzolla created the "Nuevo Tango" which was music to listen to, not dance to.
It's so uncomfortable at the 4:29 min when the music over and there's no applauses, I mean, biiig applauses for this fantastic performance. Piazzolla would be very happy seeing his music crossing the continents and being played so beautifully. :)
I see lots of questions but I can't reply to them so for anyone who was wondering, the composer is Piazzolla. Though my copy of the score does not have the gliss in the beginning.

Wow... It makes my fingers bleed just watching it.
Two absolutely phenomenal musicians. What a great duo!
Love it.
Stunning...
Astor Piazolla would be very happy to hear and see this incredible performance...

Well said! I agree on all points. Guitar magic indeed!

Bravo. Ravishing.
Beautiful and always Challenging. Bravo's all around. They're like joined at the Hippest:-)
How beautiful! Two beautiful Chinese with Latin American soul.

Amazing job. Yameng on screen left plays so well and is so beautiful. And Curly Howard on screen right is also a brilliant technician.
It's a pleasure to watch and listen these ladies! Double joy!

+Aladdin Haddad yes, that's truth.

This is totally other-worldly. Speechless...
Perfect. This is how Piazzolla should be enjoyed. Thanks for uploading.

The impeccable Yang Xuefei, Wang Yameng, Su Meng and Li Jie are all students of a fantastic teacher called Chen Zhi.
Very nice transcription, in a masterly manner played! Bravissime!
This is so badass. It's beautiful.. These girls can play anything and it is going to be great no matter what it is.

Maravilhoso!!!!!!!!!!!!!!....................
This piece is so difficult it doesn't sound great unless it's played by phenomenal guitarists.
Fabulous! Amazing! Fantastic! ......
THE COMPOSER IS ASTOR PIAZZOLA
How DARE Mr Astor Piazzola create such amazing music?! How dare he?
Wang yameng was the first guitar star from china, sadly she reached her peak during her teenage years

Love the harmonics.
The more impressive to me is the beauty of the sound made by these two chinese guitar players and her unexpressive face, like a worker doing his job.
very nice performace in guitar,,,
wow
Very nice.

wow
¡Brillante!
"Tango suite" is just a name of the piece.
Dmitriy Korolevich Oh, sorry and thanks for the correction.

Estupendo
Parfait en effet, pour vous reprendre, JFM.
