I was at this game. The atmosphere was amazing. The CFL has a special aspect to it that is only getting better through the years. As someone who loves football, it’s hard for folks to argue this is bad football when the results are games like this. CFL has high level athletes and they put it on the line for our entertainment! 10/10 game.
That third Lawler TD was a statement that took everything out of Saskatchewan's game. They'd just got their own TD, and were looking for the comeback, and the Bombers just...IMMEDIATELY responded, taking away any momentum the Riders had built. I think that, more than anything, was why Mace gambled on 3rd and 3, with the ball on his own 24. He panicked - he could see the writing on the wall, and knew that the Bombers were in firm control of the game, that they had an answer for whatever his team came up with. So he had to change the dynamic, to do something risky that could keep their offense on the field, maybe give Schaffer-Baker a shot at a couple first downs, ending in a TD and taking the crowd out of it, bringing them within 7 or 8 points of the lead. If that happens, and Lucky makes an error on the return (which he actually did on a punt return anyway), or something else goes their way, they can maybe, _maybe_ find their way to a W. But the Bombers D was too good. Tyrell Ford said "not on my watch" and Brady punched one in to really put it away. People are going off on Mace for that decision, but I actually liked it. It showed that he understood the flow of the game, and the state of the two teams. The Riders were being absolutely out-classed by the Bombers' offense, and so they really needed to keep Zach off the field no matter what. It was a desperation play, but in the context of the situation, completely understandable. The Riders lost this game before it started, because their defensive game plan was for a run-heavy attack. The explosiveness of the Bombers' passing attack really shook them, and in trying to make adjustments, they basically HAD to give Oliveira his due. It was a rookie coach being absolutely schooled by a master, plain and simple.
Schaffer-Baker is something special. Roughriders are such a legendary club and fan base. You made it to the conference final. Glad our Bombers prevailed, but if it had gone the other way a lot of us would have been cheering for you at the cup. Lots of fun taunting each other at the Labour Day Classic and the banjo bowl, but honestly, lots of respect. Prairie football all the way. See you next season.
Yup. We’ve had our time with the Cup, and we want more. But if SK took this game, I would’ve been cheering Green against Toronto. I lived in SK for 5 years and went to the ‘13 GC when they won at home. Electric atmosphere but it never felt like that home team win to me. Bombers are forever and always my home team 🤘🏻❤️
It's funny how the Bombers have been to more Grey Cup games in the last six years than the Riders have ever even won. Poverty franchise in the rectangle province.
