    The story of the B-29 copy has been told in a number of places and a very good book, Tupelov TU-4, Soviet Superfortress by Gordon and Rigment, is available at Amazon. Neither the B-29 nor the TU-4 were capable of more than one-way missions. B-29s operating in daylight in the first year of the Korean War were savaged by Mig-15s.
    Very good short doc, thanks for the posting.

    As a USAFA cadet in the late '50s and someone who listened to one of the man's speeches, my remembrance was that there was no bend in the man. He was all business. Now in my '70s I realize he was simply a sociopath (now used in place of the word psychopath in the psychologist community), someone without consideration for anyone else. What other kind of person would find his niche as head of SAC?

    They said that blasting Japan into oblivion was necessary to end the war their facing countless lives. But it didn't seem so simple when the sacrificed victims who died evaporated or engulfed in flames were ones own family.

    Krushchev Jnr makes the key point that GDP superiority of the US ultimately destroyed the USSR. Мирное сосуществование had to come in by the 1960's in order that Moscow kept the lights on. That said, non-one knew this for sure in the west - not even in 1989. So MAD (and SAC spending) achieved the desired success of the collapse of communism by accident. Scary.

    Great perspective video. Let's be reminded always the untethered stupidity just a few decisions away. Hold liberties leash with pride and prejudice. Citizenship should inspire duty, honor and respect. We are the gatekeepers of a world that would not be pleasant for anyone that would remain.
    People will most defiantely be here still. But without humanity. There would be no love, no green, no joy and dreams would be a myth faked by those that had enough food and drink to waste the energy lying about them.

    Germany made no real effort to produce an atomic weapon,they did a feasability study on the subject and realised that the gargantuan outlay,financially,materially and in man power made it an impractical goal at that time.A reactor ( A nuclear pile,an experimental facility)was built to convert uranium to plutonium and was no doubt used during the assessment phase.With reference to US racism,you could apply that label to all wars fought by them.Nowadays they like to call it "Regime Change".

    • @Wallyworld30
      @Wallyworld30 7 лет назад

      I know you wrote this years ago but better late than never. Germany spent more money developing the V2 rocket than America did developing the Atom Bomb. I don't know if this means they could have built the bomb though they still probably didn't have the industrial capability to enrich enough Uranium.

    In Sept 2013 the U.S. administration is now in a quandry. The public is over 2 - 1 against taking military action against the Syrian regime, though it has gassed its people. We as a people are tired of the military adventures the Bushes have gotten us into over the last 25 years. We're tired of our economy staggering and 95% of the recovery ending up in the hands of the top 1%. We're tired of being the world's policeman - our young men dying and our money being spent on weapons, fuel, etc.

    The Audacity of any country to be in a position to stat a war because of their own personal beliefs is first and foremost irresponsible beyond comparison. Because this possibility exists in human behaviour there has to be checks and balances in position to achieve a fool proof way of stopping what possibly could be a war and wipe out. ✌️☘️

    sorry i have taken so long to reply to you old son,the fact is that General Le May was NOT the total sum of bombing Germany during world war two! you seemed to have ignored the Royal Air Forces efforts
    lets face it,we where bombing Germany for over 3 years before the USAAF dropped a single bomb on germany
    in fact we launched the first 1000 bomber raid over a single German city in 1941...a full 8 months before Germany declared war on the USA!

    this documentary would have been an excellent opportunity to mention about the Russians impounding U.S. B29 bombers towards the end of the war. Then copying and stealing the advanced technologies of these aircraft. It can be argued that within a short period of time the Russians were close to being on a par with the U.S. regarding strike capabilities ?
    To this day the impounding and stealing of these aircraft just doesn't get any publicity.

      Luke Warm USA used Imperial measurements and Russian used metric ...they had to beat the alluminium by hand to the required thickness !!

    • @NebulaBull
      @NebulaBull Год назад

      Doesn't get any publicity because Presidents are selling them off while the pilots seat is still warm. Also, impound means it was legally theirs to seize so I'm going to assume 9yrs later you are implying the President sold them off and the Russians impounded what they paid for.

    If I had to pick the top five Generals of all time , and there are many I would start here. General Sun Zu , General Lemay, General Currie , Marshal Mannerheim and General Giap. Those are my picks each were leaders in their fields. Sun Zu laid out the battle plan of time. General Lemay because ,well it's just General Lemay. General Currie because he understood the terrain and men, Mannerheim for his Arctic guerilla attacks on the Soviets. Giap understood the Enemies propaganda machine and hit and run attacks.

      Not a bad list. I'd add Rommel due to his strategic intellect. Also maybe Douglas MacArthur because of his handling of Japan after the war and his leadership in Korea.

    Gen. Le May was the reason you aren't typing your uninformed comments in Russian. In WWII he is a large reason you didn't need to learn German. Verstehen Sie?

      Charles Nash - Lemay was famous for what he did in Japan. ruclips.net/video/fDT8NdyoWfI/видео.html
      Did you watch the interview at the beginning of the video? That was Daniel Ellsberg. He worked at Rand. They are the people who came up with the strategy.

      Russia/USSR is the reason that we aren't speaking Russian!!! ruclips.net/video/OYD6ouVHXbo/видео.html The USAF always overstated their capability. JFK blamed Nixon for the "missile gap", during the 1960 election. When he got into office, he learned that there was no missile gap!!
      Fun Fact - During the Cuban Missile Crisis, Lemay wanted to go to War(nuclear) with the USSR. He didn't care about right or wrong. As he saw it, War was inevitable... So it was better to have it while the US enjoyed such a strategic(nukes) advantage. He was ready to kill tens of millions of people... because he thought that we had the advantage.
