Why do teams keep scheduling app state as an easy win
I just went to the sun belt championship game yesterday where app won 45-38 to put there record to 12-1
They don't schedule it that way. Games are scheduled several years in advance. So you'll never really know what you're getting when the time comes to play your non-conf opponents. Furthermore, only fans view us as easy games, rest assured after 07' there is not a coaching staff (and players if they have any sense) that won't take App St seriously. They may feel they can beat us IF they play but they know it won't be an easy battle.

I love how Power 5 programs continue to underestimate App State and pencil them in as an automatic "W" on their record projections. This is not the first time that this kind of sh@t happens: Power 5 team schedules w/ ASU as "Power 5 team vs. App State (never "at App State")" expecting a scrimmage W. This App State program has a habit of slaying big boys.
I agree. The only game I saw against a power 5 team in Boone was in 2016 against Miami. You can watch the full game on here. Unfortunately, App lost by 35 points. This was two weeks after that Tennessee game.

App State is the one team, I would not schedule, Michigan learned the hard way. Penn State was lucky, South Carolina, not so lucky. The boys from Boone are a very proud program, I got tons of respect for them..

@Austin Shipman maybe... they've beaten top SEC teams for the championship, and stood tall when they didn't, so i feel like they're legit, or at least were legit--havent watched them this year. However, point taken, they could easily get beat up in the SEC, especially the west. Many good teams do each year. However, USC has not approached that level since the 11 win seasons and the five victories over the Tigers. Even then, we didn't really get close to winning a natty. Sad, but true. Wish it were different.

Just don't screw up next week. The pressure is on y'all to destroy us. If we keep it close after being awful all year, it's going to affect your ranking. As a Carolina fan, I even wish you well--I want a team in our state to win it all--just remember that nothing is guaranteed. Ya'll stay hungry and get the job done. Remember what UNC almost did to you. Don't sleep on anyone, no matter the record. You're too good and the Palmetto State is counting on your guys to take care of business and win it all.

Im from Memphis and im a die hard Michigan Wolverine and i was in a sports bar on Beale St. In Memphis surrounded by SEC fans all rooting for App St...i was wearing my full Michigan gear as they looked at me pointed and laughed P.S. im a 6ft5 255lb muscular black guy but i felt so small and embarrassed...Go blue

I was at the game and there was about 30,000 Appalachian State fans there. They were louder than the Carolina fans the whole game.

In 2016, Kentucky had a 4% chance to beat Louisville according to the FPI and were almost four-touchdown road underdogs. They won the game. Anything can happen.

We just find a way to blow it. It's our curse. Remember 84? Looking like champs... then comes Navy, JoMo died, and Ellis got a career- ending injury, all in the space of a few years.
Remember Marcus Lattimore? God, that one really hurt... heck, the fricking Vols were actually sad for us on that one...a surefire future NFL Hall of Famer struck down before he even got a chance.

It's funny, though: we play well for three quartets in most games, but I think we're contractually obligated to do stupid stuff like collapse in the fourth quarter.
But our fans are the worst. They act like we're a force to be reckoned with. We're one of those teams that needs to stay humble and under the radar to build up talent and experience for runs like an App State or UCF...Unless we win the frickin lottery and get somebody that can burn our mediocrity down and start a dynasty, like Clemson did with Dabo....guess which one Gamecock fans keep betting on...lol
I just hope we leave Frank Martin alone so we can continue to build in at least one sport. The man got us...US... to the Final Four. We can make runs like that in any sport, but we need to remember who we are, emphasize hard work, and, most if all, be patient!

Our receiver core sucks. Only Brian Edwards and no one else. we have the second and third string QB's playing as receivers.
But overall South Carolina needs a new offensive.

I remember when mid major teams like Boise St and App St could pull off some upsets but couldn't sustain for a whole season because they didn't get the same athletes as the big time schools. That is different now. The O line and defensive front 7 of App St looks so big and athletic. It almost looked like SC was playing LSU at times. App St is legit.
Did I see a deer in the headlights on the S.C. sidelines wearing a headset and pretending to be the SC head coach?
He's been pretending to be the head coach ever since he got there.
I'm convinced that Muschamp has a good football mind... he just can't translate it to the field. But let's not underestimate my Gamecock's ability to make even the greatest coaches to look mediocre. When you drive the frickin HBC to quit... there's no limit to how badly we can screw things up.

@@christhornton1785 Yeah, I'm thinking that is the case, too. I like Muschamp, but he's missing some key head coach DNA somewhere.
What's the main complaint with Muschamp teams? Offense. I feel like we'd be better off lining it up old school pro style with a simpler playbook, at least in games where we have greater size and talent. The way I understand it, the spread started as a compensatory offense for teams that didn't have the same talent as the big boys. I could be wrong, but all of these sideline audibles seem to be trying to be too clever. What if somebody's showing something to on defense to get you to audible out of what you do well? I could be wrong, but it seems like the game could benefit from some older offensive styles returning with some modern twists. Take the perennial success of option teams against modern defenses, for instance.
That's just my $0.02, so take it for what it's worth.

App state > South Carolina > Georgia > Florida > Auburn > Oregon > Washington > BYU > Tennessee > Miss State > La Lafyette > Georgia Southern
Clearly we are better than the likes of Georgia, Florida, Auburn, Oregon, and, most importantly, Southern.

Lionel Kennedy you all ride off Alabama. What SEC team other than bama has won over the last couple over the last 10 years? And LSU would will get destroyed by Ohio State or Clemson. South Carolina will be 4-8 they are awful and the beat Georgia on the road. Look at Ohio States roster last year there no way they weren’t a playoff team but everyone killed them because of the Purdue loss.

I’m reminiscing on this App State roster that was all Scott Satterfield recruits.
There’s 5+ guys on the field for App that are on NFL rosters or are starters, and a lot more that played a couple years or were invited to camps. Just stacked for a GO5 team.
I’ve been reminiscing on this 2019 team a lot. We were missed field goal away from maybe a ny6 bid. I really hope that we can return to this glory

App State can beat most bottom tier power 5 teams when they are having very good seasons. They always play to the best of their abilities and don't beat themselves .
Didn't deserve to lose their ranking just because they lost to a rival on a thursday night game. App was the real deal this year. Beat an underrated UNC team and won every other game, including wins over Charlotte and Coastal Carolina to solidify themselves as the best team in the Carolinas outside of Clemson.

@Xftbllplyr eh by the end of the season we'll have 10/14 teams for bowl season, maybe 8 but that's depending on if Mississippi State and Kentucky win out then it will be 10. But yeah i think as a whole we were much better last year. But individually only the top 5 putting in work. I'm a Gator fan btw.

It's maddening that a team that could stay in it for a while with Alabama and beat Georgia can't beat App State or even miserable teams like Tennessee or Missouri. Watch us stay true to form and ruin Clemson's season by not rolling over. They could beat us and still lose in the rankings.

We need to take a page from the plans of teams like App State and build experience so every few years we're can make a real run on the East and maybe more. We'll never be able to build teams off of sheer talent, we're need to build experience and toughness across the board to support the talent we have. Until we do that, all the Bryan Edwardses and Deebo Samuels of the world will be wasted.
