Another tip; You may not have remembered to carry the bath tub in your puncture repair kit - or the water, so the fall back testing method for finding the hole is to hold the part inflated tube up to the side of your face to feel and hear the leak. Then a gob of saliva applied there will bubble away to pin point the spot. It also is a useful fluid for the first cleaning of the area.
Thanks for watching and paying close attention Originally it was going to be - orange bike - Continental review Raw lacquer - Flix kit We combined them Or ... the Tubolitos don’t hold their colour well and it contaminated the frame !
My better half manages to secure all the punctures we get (hope I’ve not jinxed myself now!), but I get the joy of fixing them! My son has just made his first Brilliant Bikes purcahse and is working his way through your videos - he bought his first pre-loved Brommie earlier this week!... 👏🏻 Still, your videos are great and really cheer me up, thank you... 👍🏻 💚 🤪
I love your videos, especially the subtitles. I can watch without putting the sound up high, I don't have standard my earphones with me. Above all it is not the automatic subtitles which are often hilarious and you still don't know what they meant. Keep up the good work.
Very good, very informative. I’ve actually gone back to Schwalbe tyres as I found the Continental ones got punctures. Also the side wall is made of very soft and thin material in comparison with Schwalbe. Thanks for the films. I’ve been messing around on bikes all my life and it’s always nice to see how others mend things. We never stop learning!
Thanks for watching and ... Thanks for the info / feedback Which Schwalbe tyres do you use ? We are thinking the Conti's are nice for summer (as a Kojak / One replacement) but will probably change back to Marathon Plus in the autumn Stay safe!
I purchased my continental tyres from you after watching your video and I have done 1000 miles and I love the fast steering and smooth ride. I too do quite a bit of off road riding on rough tracks ,I had two punctures on the same day when two large thorns went through the sidewall. I can recommend the tyres and much prefer the ride and handling to schwalby
Absolutely love your videos - informative and highly amusing, especially the out takes.. Might want to check that your helmet strap is the correct tension!
Many thanks for your introduction of the Continental Tire some Videos ago. Replaced my Kojaks with them and I am more than satisfied. Would have liked to buy them from you but this seemed to be not possible. Keep on going with your charming and informative videos 👍🏻 Brompton rules 🚴🏻💨💨
hi, how do the continentals compare with the kojaks in terms of speed/comfort/puncture resistance? I'm about to replace with my Kojaks and your feedback will be much appreciated! Thank you.
utubeaddict Hi utu - 2500km with the Kojaks and 500km with the Continental Urban - no punctures with both although much broken glass on the ways I am riding - comfort: Kojaks 2 out of 5 stars Continental 4 stars - much better on bumpy roads - speed: both are equally in my opinion a big plus of the Contis is grip - they feel much safer especially on loos ground and in wet conditions. I will never go back to the Kojaks - hope I could help 🚴🏻💨💨💨👍🏻
I had flats on both my Bromptons within a few kilometers I rode them with the new Tubolito tubes. So I am very dissapointed with the Tubolitos tubes, same with the local Brompton Junction here in Hamburg - they told me that they have many (!!) failures of the Tubolitos tubes. Greetings to you from Hamburg and thx for your videos!
Hello from Florida USA. Again I enjoy tuning in to your new videos as you make them available. Keep up the good work. Oh and you must have tighten the nuts so hard on the the bike that it changed color, try to be more careful in the future, unless that was your in tension.
Thanks for watching and your great comment - and we thought our colonial cousins over the pond didn't get sarcasm ;-) We weren't sure if it was over tightening of the nuts or maybe the orange leaked out of the inner tubes! Originally it was going to be two videos - the Tubolito fix on the raw lacquer bike and the Continental tyre review on the orange bike .... we decided to combine them btw - you didn't notice the crank on the wrong side of the orange bike - and POC reversed on the helmet - that would have been an extra bonus point!
very nice to see new technology like this new inner tubes. :-) You explane also everything very kalm and easy, so that i can also unterstand what you are talking about , very nice.
Nice video, and informative too about the Tubolito patching kit. It was weird how your "Snacksuma" orange Brompton showed up in the middle (8:04) with the crankset on the opposite side! :-) Then you arrive in the woods on the original bike. That's very clever. I'm looking foward to a review of the Continental tyres. Keep making the interesting and entertaining videos.
Thank you for watching and for paying such close attention to the details / being observant Are there any particular details you would like to know about the Continental tyres? We just got some power metre pedals so we’re thinking of testing rolling resistance by measuring the power required to move different tyres
brilliantbikes I’d be interested to see how the tread looks after 600 km. Front and back, please. How squishy is the side wall? Is it a lively tyre to ride - does it feel like it rolls easily? Any issues with riding in he rain? Does it loose grip (in your opinion) around wet corners? How puncture resistant is it? How does it handle on gravel (as a substitute for chippings on a graded path? I look forward to your tyre review.
Thanks for watching We really really try to avoid them - this video for some reason had so many The birds wouldn’t stop fighting The bucket leaked water as much as the tube leaked air We kept dropping stuff And ended up running over the GoPro!! We do hope it shows it’s not too serious!
Think I might try the continentals next possibly with these more puncture resistant tubes. I’m also not very nice to my tires and take them off road often. Just gotta watch for out that evil wedging❗️😬 Seeing you crack up every time you mentioned it was quite hilarious 😆
Long term review of Continental. Btw, i ordered continental tyres from Brilliantbikes! Brilliant indeed your shop is. I just couldn’t wait to try it on so i ordered it quickly. I just want to try kojak-like experience with some extra protection. ☺️
Thank you so much for your comments. So sorry for the delayed update on the Continentals. We are really quite impressed with them. They roll nicely, we think nicer than Kojaks. But have also been amazed by the puncture resistance, we both ran over some glass a couple of times yesterday and were waiting for the flat - but survived, no flats yet!
Thank you brilliantbikes! I received the order! That was fast. Service is always fast. Such a great service! Am excited to try my new Continental tyres. But I would agree that fitting the inner tube is quite a challenge. Hahaha! :)
Carrying a spare inner tube on any ride becomes ever more attractive - finding the puncture can be very difficult without a handy bowl of water. Pinching of the inner-tube when installing can indeed cause a delayed puncture, which is most annoying if it is a new tube that has just been put in - and taken for granted that it will therefore be good and not need spare back-up in first few rides!
As always, I really enjoy your videos. How does Hannah like her Ergon Saddle? I would appreciate a review. Wish I could come to Britain and visit your shop. AFter the pandemic ends!
Thank you for watching and for your comment. I love my Ergon saddle - they always laugh at me I think it’s like someone is holding you bottom. But that’s not my Ergon saddle, we will be fitting that very soon. 😀
You don’t use any glue/cement in this repair but the flix-kit on your website includes glue. Have these patches been proven not to last and hence the need for glue now? Like the videos, very thorough Thanks
thank you for the great videos. are the continentals readily available in the uk? haven’t seen them for sale in the u.s.. any opinions how the tires compare to the marathon plus. i use them because i don’t want to deal with flats on the road. but i wish the pluses had a faster tread. thanks also for showing how to prevent pinches -very helpful. i am changing out my first cog and chain. i will be watching your videos on that area soon. last question-how often do you use torque ratchets on the brompton? wondering if most people go by feel on tightening, or is it critical on a brompton to be exact. thanks again.
Please could I ask a question about tyres on a Brompton Electric ? Given that when the riding is being assisted by the motor on the front wheel, the tyre is actually "pulling" and steering the bike, as opposed to the rear tyre "pushing" the bike. After this rambling :-) my question is what is your current thinking about front tyre selection/pressure. I am currently running Marathon pluses at 90 psi. Thank you David.
Thank you for your kind comments It’s actually a stand coming from Brompton for shops to display the bike in its unfolded state It uses an upright post angled to match the angle of the seatpost tube (with a protective top sa as to not damage the inside) We’ll show it in more detail in a video soon - after all if you like it, then it could be of interest to others
I actually sent an e-mail to Brompton about this stand a few weeks ago because it would indeed come in very handy when cleaning the bike or for maintenance. They answered me that it is only made for shops and is not for sale. The reason behind it is that you can also work on the Brompton in the semi-fold position, which I find only half true. I hope they change their mind one day and bring it on the market. For now I have made one myself with some stacked wooden blocks and a plastic tube in the middle. Doesn't look as fancy but does the job :-)
I can only find their repair patches with glue (like conventional types we all know). Those ones look to be self-adhesive!? 🤔 Is it possible to link to the exact ones you are using, please?
Confusingly they changed the packaging - the kit is now in a box brilliantbikes.co.uk/tyre-and-inner-tube-tools/6236-tubo-patch-kit-from-brompton-for-your-tubolito-inner-tube.html
Which has been better for mixed terrain: Continentals, Ones or Marathon Plus? My Schwalbe Marathon Racers have held up pretty well against NYC streets and paths, but accumulated sand or smaller gravel on boardwalks have been a nightmare (though gravel was better compared to sand). Any tips?
So the Tubolito patches don't require any sanding or gluing, as with rubber tubes? That's an additional selling point in itself. Sanding and waiting for glue to dry while sitting on a sidewalk is a real nuisance!
Having seen what happens to these inner tubes when overinflated outside a tyre ruclips.net/video/UADXI9BJRs8/видео.html , I can see why they ask for a new tyre for a new tube. They’re not anywhere as elastic. A curious failure though! Still tempted by them, so hope a 60km failure is an outlier result.
Thanks for the link (and watching / commenting) They behave as them ‘feel’ like they would - according to that video We can only think it was finger nails when installing! There was definitely no spoke / rim / rim tape sharpness It also deflated quite slowly Let’s see how it goes after the repair
Another tip; You may not have remembered to carry the bath tub in your puncture repair kit - or the water, so the fall back testing method for finding the hole is to hold the part inflated tube up to the side of your face to feel and hear the leak. Much easier than carrying a bucket on a ride… many thanks for the suggestion
