Fun thing is, that's how you do it, pretty sure the missile has a harder time differentiating between a flare and the plane from the front, from the rear it's easier for the missile since your afterburner is right there
You'll be happy to know that the stock grind for the F-14B is much easier. Also i find it kinda interesting seeing that brief bit of Phoenix gameplay, it kinda looked like you were nostly using it like a FOX-1 that you could safely lose lock with rather than a proper FOX-3
You should just go straight for the F-14B (I'm assuming you don't yet have it), F-16 weapons, on an F-14, plus 700 CMs and 54Cs, that's some next level shit

Greetings Steel Guru! Please tell me how did you shoot down two planes with AIM-7E-2 missiles, first firing one missile and then another(at 3:38sec)🤨🤔?! I tried to do this, but the first rocket explodes before reaching the target!
You can think of it sorta like a gacha game. Flares won't guarantee a missile's redirection towards it. The more you use though, the better chances. It's difficult though because of the low count we all start with :(

It has to do with how SARH missiles work; they don't communicate with the aircraft or anything, but instead just chase the intense radar return from an illuminated target. Essentially, it's an IR missile, but instead of heat its radar, and the reason why the missile still tracked is because someone else happened to be illuminating his target, so the missile stayed locked onto that return
It is the CW signal of the missile, which means that as long as the target is illuminated (not especially locked) by the radar of the aircraft it was launched from, the SARH missile can still "see" it and lock onto it and eventually hit it.

No the aim-7E has to be used in close range to get an splash it sounds stupid but it's easier that way

radar missiles aren't affected by flares at all. That's what chaff is for

I stock grinded the F14A for a little bit and then just decided to skip it for a while and go for the F14B, which in my experience is much easier.
