Dear Stian Thank you very very much for restoring my wife's grandfather's Longines pocket watch. I'm very happy, you did an absolutely fantastic job. The watch is sublime and will fill my wife with joy when she finds it like new. She didn't believe it was possible to restore this watch that is so dear to her heart. I wish you a wonderful Christmas with your family and a very Happy New Year 2024!
It's a gorgeous pocket watch. I hope she considered getting a chain for it and actually using it occasionally. The movement looked basically pristine other than the balance pivot so now it's completely functional.
I'm sure she'll love this present! It's great to have a family heirloom such as this one, especially in this conditions and expertly restored! Happy holidays!
I was at the Olympia Games in Lake Placid. My dad was a resort chef for the games. Even though I was only 3 years old, surprisingly I do remember being there.
Interesting choice. Nearly all of your comments reflect appreciation for the watches beauty. I’m specifically impressed by its minimalistic design and unerring proportions. Thanks for keeping it varied and interesting.
It surprised me a lot to see how much that case cleaned up using just boiling water and baking soda. Very pretty pocket watch. Also, has anyone remarked at how handsome Stian looks in his lab coat? It's a shame he's not praised more often for that. I can see him now... all gussied up in his lab coat, walking around town with Mjolner Jr., his mighty, but small hammer of watch justice. All the ladies giving him catcall whistles. We are not worthy of his presence, I can say that for sure.
I was lucky enough to have a guided tour of the Longines Museum in St. Imer just two weeks ago. So much history and amazing timepieces on display. The young man that gave us the tour was very pleasant and knowledgeable. I highly recommend the visit if you are able to go.
Hehe Thomas "Säcken" Wassberg. He is still active in Åsarna (his club.) He was born in Lennartsfors - a small town in Värmland by Stora Le - close to the border to Norway. He is one the 1956 guys/gals (Ingemar Stenmark/Björn Borg/Linda Haglund is other ones.) Strömsfoss is on the other side of "Kölen"

Merry Christmas, I hope you and your family have a great New Year. Let us wish for peace to all the places that do not have it for this Christmas. Let us work as one to make the world we all live in better.
Stian, I hope you know that you make a small but significant difference in all of our lives. That is something to be proud of. Thank you. Merry Christmas and happy new year to you.
I do remember this 'battle' between Mieto and Wassberg myself. But two years later a similar situation occured between Brå and this Russian skier I guess. Holmenkollen. God jul Stian! 😊
Great job as always. This cleaned up beautifully. I certainly wouldn't guess it was anywhere near 95 years old. Hopefully the owner uses it occasionally.
Another beautiful watch and a job well done. One small comment from a pilot and lifelong history buff: Amelia Earhart didn’t replicate Charles Lindbergh’s feat until 1932. In 1928, she was merely a passenger in an airplane piloted by Wilmer Stultz and Louis Gordon. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year! 🎄
Beautiful work, Stian. I've got a special regard for sterling silver, happy to see you bring this watch back to sparkling beauty. A very Merry Christmas to you and yours! It's been great to connect with you over this past year, despite the many miles that separate us!
Thank you for another terrific watch restoration video, Stian! That is a lovely Longines pocket watch in great overall condition. It is a shame that some previous watchmaker saw fit to take chunks out of some of the timing screws whilst poising the balance wheel, but at least they did it in such a way that it isn’t visible when the movement is cased. Wishing you and your family a Merry Christmas and all the best for 2024! 🎉
I started watchmaking as a hobby 5 years ago. I love the humor you have and lighter take on this profession. Even though I’m just a hobbyist whom still ruins my fair share of watches, there is no doubt of the reward in restoring an old time piece. I’ve the channel, keep up the good content creation. Oh yes and my muscles are growing from all the hammering too! Haha
I also have a Longines, serial number is the same on case and movement, made in 1919. It actually runns. It is a komfirmasjons gave (Stian knows) for my grand father when he was 14 years old, bought in Vardø (stone trow from Russian waters). But it needs rins, lube and a new crystal.
Stain your watchmaking skills, humorous ways, amazing feats of strength put you amongst the top ten utube watchmakers ok maybe the top three. Thanks for your posts though out the year and have a great Christmas and enjoy the festive season. Keep well from New Zealand 🇳🇿
12:36 I can think of many creatures looking at this part, oh yeah, i have a wild fantasy! Have wildly happy holidays Stian, with family and friends all over. Cheers mate. PS And there is the Princess! Like a Christmas goblin!!! PS2 Add a bit of salt to your witch brew. Any eastern will tell you so, i know...
I've been looking at getting a nice pocket watch, for occasional use. That one is gorgeous, love the dial, just so clear, looks like porcelain, just gorgeous. Anyhoo... I'll shut up Now and unpause the video (it had only just started).
Hello Stian. Very interesting aviation stories. The airfield where Lindbergh took off for his transatlantic flight is now a shopping centre. Roosevelt Field. Happy New year to you and your family.
Nice as always. But I wonder why people admire dings and scratches on old watches but never scratch their brand new Rolex. Scratch it now and it will look old as you like:)
Dear Stian, Thank you so much for your many wonderful videos, most of which I have watched multiple times. This one has also been greatly appreciated, and I look forward to many more. Have a Merry Christmas and a very Happy New Year 2024!
A very fascinating history of Longines Stian. I am always amazed at the precision of watches made 60-100 years ago and the beauty of those watches. Thank you for sharing these videos Stian. As I've voiced before I look forward to your videos and how it calms me by watching you work. I pray you and yours are healthy and at peace and I want to wish you and your family a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Years. Cheers from this old retired coot living the dream in Tennessee.
Wish I could afford such a watch. I have two Chinese pocket watches with the type 36 movement (which looks like an old Hamilton watch movement). They had to be regulated but otherwise look good on the timegrapher.
Beautiful watch! Been looking for one like that, dial hands, case and all! Eventually I'm sure I'll locate one. Great work as always my friend on an awesome watch! The owner will be pleased! Happy Holidays!! ☺️
Happy Christmas 🎉🎉 Happy New year, My goal is to attempt to repair my Grandfathers pocket watch. It’s a very old Waltham William Ellery? I know it’s not worth much but it’s sentimental value for Me. My Grandfather actually worked at the Waltham watch factory for a couple years thank you for all your great vids..🙏👨🏻🦯
Wow, it's pretty rare to find pocket watches from this era in such a pristine condition! It's flawless. Thank you for bringing it back to its former glory! I love old watches like this - nothing fancy but you can clearly see that they were very well designed and build to last a lifetime (and more). Happy holidays! :)
What a beautiful job. I love the stories you tell behind each watch you service. Love your videos. I learn something new every time I watch your videos. Keep them coming.❤
Very interesting to see your family recipe for a witch brew. Strangely enough, that corresponds to the recipe handed down in my family, except for the kangaroo tongue (which was a tad difficult to get hold of a few centuries ago). We used wolfsbane which had to be plucked by a virgin at midnight during a full moon.
Merry Christmas to you and your own Stian. Thank you for all the content and may this holidays bring great joy and most of all, health. Feliz navidad 😊
Hello, Just to wish you a happy Christmas time to, and I hope you have a super 2024. Thank you for all your continent I love to watch. One day I would live to see you do an Omega co axial movement?
Merry Christmas, you are right, is too bad that Longines does not have access to any of their in-house movements. I wonder if they still own the rights to some of them?
Awesome work. Seems like every time I get a watch with a broken staff the balance jewel is also blasted haha. Love seeing pocket watches on your channel every once in awhile since thats mostly what I work on.
Thank you , Stian, for the holiday present. A thoroughly enjoyable video. Btw, where do you source your kangaroo tongues? Looking forward to the tour of your workshop in the new year. God ferie og sees neste år! (hope I got that right)

Great video! Happy holidays you and yours! I'd like to know more about the hairspring boot, specifically why you turn it before removing the spring from the balance.
How hard was it to source a balance staff for this watch? For American pocket watches of this era, particularly from the larger manufacturers like Elgin and Waltham, it's easy enough since there's still a massive amount of NOS out there. Is it the same with Longines?

Thanks so much and a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you also :) 🎄🎊🤶
I never get tired of watching a master practicing his craft, bravo Stian!
Thank you for reviving that masterpiece. With your skill you have managed to make it shine again in its maximum splendor.
😊👌
Thank you so much 😀
Simple elegance. Thank you.
Superb photography Stian. It's really a delight to watch your videos.
Many thanks!
That is a beautiful pocket watch - I really like the font on the dial face, very unique. 🎄🌟

What a great watch that is!
20:08 Lindbergh wore a GMT watch so he could keep track of time in the US … and in Germany where he kept his secret second family.
Stian, I hope you know that you make a small but significant difference in all of our lives. That is something to be proud of. Thank you. Merry Christmas and happy new year to you.

Magnificent! Thank you very much
Longines was huge in Finland in the 70's and 80's, every single cinema screening had a Longines commercial at the start of the film.
Good one, S!. I like the detail with beat error adjustment and balance staff putting-in. Good egg!.
Have a Happy Christmastime.
Excellent restoration Sir, informative and entertaining 😁👍
Beautiful! Thar is a very nice case and lovely movement. Best to you and yours over the holidays. P
Merry Christmas to you and your family.🎄🎄🎄

Not a massively complicated timepiece, but a lovely sympathetic restoration again. Bravo, Stian.
What a beautiful watch! Does anyone still make pocket watches of this quality any more?

What was the stuff you had in the small vise to clean the pivots?
Great video! Happy holidays you and yours! I'd like to know more about the hairspring boot, specifically why you turn it before removing the spring from the balance.
The boot holds the hairspring in place between it and the index pin, so you need to turn the boot to let the hairspring come free.
Happy New Year 2024 to you and to your near and dear ones.
Same to you and yours, K! 🎊🍾
I’ve been looking up kangaroo tongue and can’t find it anywhere. I really, strongly suggest adding a distributor. 😂
