Two things I already noticed wrong with the thunderbolt...
1: The speed of it. USB 2.0 doesn't run that fast and 3.0 should be running faster. Also, if they were using SATA 3 hardware, they would have a better running computer.
2: RAID would be a much faster and safer option than just a simple flash drive; but if you must have something fast, use M.3 it's the best right now. I'm just saying, I smell bullcrap here

VirgosVerse yeah, why not?!? When you have a good idea like that one of the first and best things you should do is contact a patent attorney. For a fixed fee they can find out if your idea already exists and whether any patents exist or are pending. Once you let that cat out of the bag it's guaranteed to be patented by someone.

I see many overdesigned devices... Convenience indeed, but at added cost to the consumer. Thunderdrive ? Install an SSD, it still doesn't solve the problem of data security that a raid array does, plus, you can lose it like I do with all of my thumb drives.

    • @deathbyfire05

Not just that but most sata ports on a mother board run sata3 now which is a 6gig a second connection. Usb 3.0 runs at 2gigs a second so the irony that they are selling a ssd stick as a new invention is ridiculous! Just add a cooler name to it and boom marketing! XD

SSD's are now old news - today (2017-12-10) it's all about NVME drives. The entire concept of drives is a thing of the past - no more clusters, cylinders, blocks, etc.; now its just pure flash memory directly on the bus.

not to mention ssds are faster. even if it was on esata.. ssds provide more storage and read write speed

    • @soarer282
      @soarer282 8 лет назад

an ssd might have more storage then a usb drive but most mini external drives (the ones that use a laptop hard disk) are far more economical. the issue is that an ssd even though it is very fast will hit a bottleneck at the port and will be limited to the port speed. so ideally people need to match the speeds to avoid these bottlenecks. Also laptops should not really be the device you use to edit massive files, wait till you get home and use a real computer for that.

All good ideas, great channel. But these "Sun Boxes" that are springing up on the internet really need a closer look. They might be good for certain applications where there is no city code is needed. But the idea that any person with $1,000 can handle a complex electrical array is dangerous. There is a reason solar energy is closely monitored by dozens of agencies and NGO's, and a DIY approach is only for the highest level of electricians. I love these videos and please keep them coming

Just my though, but that thunder drive is just stupid, the way they market the product as well would make someone with some knowledge in the field to walk in the opposite direction. She said that they bought the fastest laptop of the time (2015 as the ASUS ROG they are using are 2015 laptops). Last year SSD's were at 1 GB/s). If they were smart, they would have just used SSD's in there laptops and not worry about slow HDD's.

If you need power at the park or a camping trip, just bring a marine battery and an inverter!
I have 1kw of solar on my camper with 600AH of batteries and a MPPT charge controller, the whole thing cost less than $1000.00. Solar on ebay is cheap, I paid $75 per 315watt panel and $275 for a 75 amp MPPT charge controller that will convert any power in to:12,24,36 or 48 vdc, the most expensive thing was the batteries (craigslist 4-12v-150AH used Trojans for $250) Bottom line, dont be a sucker for some salesman telling you it take months of planning and permits, etc., it takes 2hrs online to find the parts and about 3hrs to install them... My panels came from Gilbert, AZ and Intronics MPPT75HV charge controller (it has been working non stop for 2 yrs)

Sun-box.com does not go directly to sight. After reading 5 other companies notes I have given up. Not only do I want the product but to buy shares when this product into the big news (Fortune 500). This would help me so much. I'm in a wheelchair and happen to have trouble with heat so my camping days are gone. Not true if I could get a couple of these and and a small air-conditioner and a couple for my electric chair and I could go back to be free as a bird. LOL. Don't get your hopes up, this seems to be a flop (at least on kickstarter). I don't know exactly what the problem is, but for me personally the campaign on kickstarter seems to be only for US (because they only ship within US) and kinda expensive at that because at the very least you need the 2-box system. Also while they show some good examples of what you could power with the boxes, you cant really estimate the proper turn around value e.g. the cost of 2-box setup vs paying the bill (for a specific item wattage) for maybe 10 years?

The 3rd device; the ThunderBolt 3 SSD ... Well, if your storage drive is still a mechanical hard drive you wouldnt be even able to do much different. Why just dont upgrade your hard drive into a SSD. It has better read and write speed and you can buy a housing for your old mechanical drive for archive.

That thunder drive is a joke...almost any internal SSD is almost twice as fast, in fact I'm positive its just a USB SSD, of which there are tons of. Also Im not sure why you wouldn't just invest in some cloud storage to help run you're business, rather then buying a bunch of USB drives that you have to physically pass around. USB speed is never going to be as fast as internal SATA connections, and network speeds are already capable of faster speeds than this.

These items are all steps up from existing products and sure they are useful, but a couple problems arise. The first is that so many inventors run right over to China to get their products made which leads to the second, if you get them made at cheaper prices...why are the products so darn expensive? 500 for a wagon? More than a little steep and may be why we will never see the mass production item in major department stores.

the sun box is nice, but his claim that traditional solar power won't work when the grid is down is ofcourse bogus... If you can put batteries in your sun box to counteract that, you can do that with a solar array on a building (tesla powerwall would be a good example, or just use the battery in your electric car :)
