    This gives me a great insight as to where to go when I visit Auckland for my 50th Birthday

    I've watched this place been built since I moved to the city 5yrs ago, its finally here. I can't wait to visit this place 😍

      The opening day crept up on us with no real publicity .. we only knew it was open that morning so popped down for a quick look.. I didn't get a chance to film but at the back of the upstairs bar the seated area window looks out to the old chief post office. We was super impressed - so much to explore.

    Amazing. Th name Commercial Bay is a nice link back to the history of that area of Auckland.

      Yes we love the historical ties also. I also love that the internal laneway 'Little Queen Street' is also a homage to the past lane of that name.

    In terms of quality, the mix of tenants and the built environment would have to stand up to the very best retail developments in Melbourne and Sydney - even the kind that host luxury brands (absent from Commercial Bay). Yet it still feels somehow like Auckland. I mean that in a good way.
    I love the floor tiles at ground level - I hope the pattern won’t date. Speaking of flooring, I wonder what the “H” on the floor at 6:10 references?

    • @NESTstudios
      @NESTstudios 4 года назад +1

      Yes - when I clocked the H on the floor it piqued my interest .. not sure .. My regret is that the development didn't attract an Apple store. I was just motoring in today for a 1st look - jam packed with CBD lunch rush.

      NESTstudios my thought exactly. Hopefully Apple will decide to move in to the train station across the road. That will complete the retail scene of Auckland. Well wouldn’t mind a Ikea store out in the suburb somewhere too.

      Is the H on the floor for the name of the food court Harbour eats?

      When all the temporary fencing for the roadworks is removed from downtown we can reclaim the streets. 😊

      Welly has a population of 400k versus Auckland's 1.6 million. Welly would be considered a town in most countries, not a city. You have to be realistic.

    So what? Just another mall full of high-end retail shops selling goods that your average working class can't even afford. We've already got the newmarket and Sylvia park. Why does the country need another one? Complete waste of money.

    • @NESTstudios
      @NESTstudios 4 года назад +1

      Thanks for your comment. Yes it won't be for some who live outside of the CBD- but for the 100,000 who visited over the weekend it will have injected some much needed foot traffic into the inner city. The old mall was very tired and well past its use by date.

      I don’t see any point comparing the most valuable city block in the CBD to Westfield Malls located outside of the CBD (at Newmarket and Sylvia Park). This development benefits from being at the “centre of the universe” as far as Auckland is concerned. Don’t forget the CBD is increasingly residential and those residents are high earners. It wouldn’t seem appropriate to me to place “average working class” shops in this highly valuable location.
