I have my own raised from hand sparrow, it’s a male. These birdies are very territorial and prefer to trust only one person, if they’re raised by people. They have strong character. My father found him when he was just a small chick who didn’t have any feathers and was blind. Sadly, both his legs were broken and he can’t stand at all because of his twisted legs. But he’s strong and very lively.

I had no idea (I don’t own doves nor think of getting them so I don’t look these kinds of things up), but saying “yeah no they can go on the bottom of the cage if they want to” is just stupid, as they are birds. Birds feel safe up high. In fact, if a bird is near the bottom of their cage a lot, it might indicate that it’s sick. Of course they’re gonna choose to stay up high if that’s where they feel safest! Stop thinking of excuses, do some research and just get them a flat place to stand on! Really, I just make them myself for my two canaries, doesn’t take longer than 10 minutes and that’s without proper equipment. Also doesn’t cost a lot either, so why not?

depending on where you live, I'd advise not releasing a house sparrow into the wild. as you can see how pissed off he is in this video, if i allowed him in the cage he would've done massive damage to my dove, possibly even killing her.
house sparrows are very aggressive, territorial birds and sometimes fight to the death with their own species, but what makes it a real problem is that they drive/kill native wild birds out of nesting spots n territories. a single house sparrow could easily kill off a nesting of 4 baby bluebirds or martins along with their parents, house sparrows are an invasive species. I've kept all baby sparrows I've raised... if the bird is tamed or used to humans enough it can be kept as a companion (this little gremlin is such a spoiled snuggly brat), or offered for adoption to anyone else who may want to care for one. most wildlife rehabs here don't even accept sparrows cuz they're invasive birds, along with pigeons and european starlings 😔

@@lulzBrownie thank you for this! I have my bachelors degree in Poultry Science. For the most part my degree fits all avian species however it does focus more on the behavior of poultry and flightless birds such as emu/ostrich. We didnt get so far as to discuss the behavior of sparrows, though I am looking for a course in such. This one is a little one, still cute bright yellow cheeks, a neighbor is trying to raise. I don't think itll survive the night with them but I gave them what advice I could. The mother messaged me that if they couldnt get it to eat they would bring it to me, I told them I'd be up late, I'm begging my phone to get a message from them. I was hoping to teach it the sounds but I do not mind keeping it if that's what it takes. Thank you

i hope the little guy makes it and that you're able to feed the baby, the catfood mix diet provided on starlingtalk.com works wonderfully for baby sparrows. feeding them at first can be difficult as they're stubborn/scared to accept food, but can learn quickly when you're able to pry their beak open and put food in their throat a few times. pet sparrows are definitely interesting, one of my favorite birds to raise out of budgies, doves, pigeons, n chickens. very curious, mischievous, smart little things they can be too... this one always goes under the blankets to pick at my face to let me know he's hungry or thirsty lol

This is why I dislike sparrows.... They're noisy and insanely bellicose. Plus they have no actual song. The only two sounds they produce is a constant "peep.... peep" or that insufferable, neurotic chirp. They're always trying to pick fights with other birds at the feeder, sometimes with birds bigger than them. I once saw one try to pick a fight with a woodpecker: That was a mistake. The woodpecker put up with the sparrow's attempts at harassment and intimidation for a little while and then decided he had enough so he pecked him once on the head. The sparrow immediately shook his head and I could see he was really dizzy (woodpeckers have extremely powerful hammer-action beaks). A few seconds later, he recovered his senses and immediately flew away. Not too long after that, sparrows stopped coming to the feeder. Good riddance!

alchemist1202 dont tell me u think DOMESTICATED pets should be in the wild where they couldn't even survive lol

Doves are not domestic. To domesticate an animal it needs generations and generations they still have their natural urges which separates them from pets. I am sure they would survive. They will just follow their natural instincts. Even if a pet is domesticate as you say, would it be fair to be caged from birth till they die just for our fun?

alchemist1202 People have been keeping barbary doves for generations dumb ass don't talk about things you don't understand. They're a domesticated subspecies and they would likely die if released into the wild.

So what if doves are cages for generations. Does it make it right? People have wars and kill each others and have slaves even longer but it still isnt right.

alchemist1202 so what do you suggest, release all these DOMESTICATED PET DOVES into the wild for them to die?? yea sure sounds like a good idea if you want this species to die off, moron. also this cage isnt even their home cage i have them in a larger aviary outside
