I think this year, cultivating really helps break up the crust from all the rain. It is great to have a 2wd tractor to cultivate with. They usually are more "nimble". Thanks for the video.
so enjoyed the old way of doing things Travis thanks very much for taking the time to make the video and show us none farmers. Well I grew up on a farm but that was 60 years ago LOL.
That's some good looking corn. You guys are in the catbird's seat so far. Hope the weather and your corn cooperate. Thanks for taking the time to share your farm.
That’s why I wait to side dress my anhydrous our ground is very crusty too but as soon as that anhydrous goes on in the next two days you can see the corn jump yes it’s just one more thing to do but I like it better than pre-plant
ill have to say boss those 4 ribs look fanfntastic on the 46 wow they really dress that tractor up i love that tractor of your guys its gorgeous but the 20 looks like its getting a little slick on the front, hahahha all get to it eventually theres always too much to do!!
I think you should do some beans as test cause you'd be amazed at the difference in yeild Travis. We ran every acre of beans though the calelevator. We done a test one year done 12 rows skipped 12 rows an there was a difference in yeild more than enough to pay for the fuel an time
It will grow so much better and taller! I did a test with a patch a couple years ago and that corn was a foot an a half taller and had much bigger stalks and ears where i went down the rows. Was sooo cool to see. MAN i gotta get me a cultivator and plant some acres! Love doing that!
Crows take golf balls, thinking their eggs, and they drop them to try cracking them.I work at a driving range and watched crow pick up golf balls, and fly off
You really need to plant a cover crop in your field to give it a 60 days of green cover . then roll it to pack down for the winter. This will feed the soil. This will make you soil absorb and conserve moisture. Your soil is starving.
Nice looking corn. Wonder how much the flooding is going to affect corn prices this year. I have heard that many farmers in the mid west still having got corn in the ground.
Travis lives where the green grass grows, watching his corn pop up in rows. Every night be tucked in close... to Brittany. (Sorry, had to change it up to make it fit reality, not the rhymes.) The fields look a lot nicer when you clean up the rows like this. The corn gets more of a fighting chance this way, and every bit counts.
Not sure if this would help you cultivating. But the farmer I worked for used to put angle irons with a thin piece of metal at the very tip. On the front of the tractor to help keep both of us lined up with the row. Basically he took the front weight bracket. And positioned A piece of angle iron with a piece of metal out front over the row. And use a bunch of washers to angle the angle Iron and Put some metal washers out front to line up with the row.
Great video as always Travis , would you ever consider a 12 row cultivator? I know that there are many variables like tire width on the 76 and the 46 also it does seem like some of your fields are wedge shaped Which would make complete coverage more difficult. If the 46 years and option I think auto steer would be really cool cultivating corn unless I don’t know enough about auto steer maybe it’s impossible to set up cultivating corn with auto steer just a thought keep up the great work.
Orthman had a self-steering cultivator-- it worked like the "feelers" under a corn head snouts that keep the combine head on the row, but the feelers moved electrical sensors in a box mounted under the toolbar... this in turn operated electro-hydraulic controls to a steerable coulter blade, which then responded to the feelers and pivoted the coulter blade left or right to pull the cultivator to the left or right to keep the cultivator gangs centered on the rows and prevent "iron blight"... all you had to do was set the three point arms so they could float side to side (remove the lower stabilizer blocks or fully retract them on a Deere tractor) and then steer the tractor so you kept the tires in the row middles... the cultivator did the rest. Later! OL J R :)
To use GPS autosteer to guide a cultivator, you'd have to 1) have EXTREMELY accurate GPS, like sub-inch accuracy, so you're not plowing out corn, 2) have an autosteer system installed on the tractor, and 3) have the sway blocks fully engaged to "lock" the cultivator to the tractor so that it could not sway side to side AT ALL, so the cultivator stayed EXACTLY centered behind the tractor at all times... A 4020 with autosteer-- who'd have thunk it?? LOL:) Later! OL J R :)
Don't jinx yourself by talking about things that have not happened.ypu now better .great to see you cutting corn.why not run even more shallow on the beans.we ran the culivator over the beans back home to to tall for it.never saw a yield loss from it .but maybrbyour ground is different then nd ground.see later.have a great night
Thanks for letting us ride along today. And thanks for the video Travis!!

I always like the look of the corn after it gets cultivated thanks for the vids

Great video Travis thanks for sharing have a great day and stay safe out there
I remember the old farmer down the road cultivating my parents field with a 4020. That corn looks great as your cultivating it, nice work!
Thanks for the ride along Travis. Awesome job as always.
Gotta love the random golf ball😝👍
Corn looks good! Soon warm weather will be here an they are gonna take off!
I kind of like that self that ether is sitting on. It’s probably real handy for grabbing a tool for quick adjustments, shear pins, etc.
Looking good Travis 👌 👌👌 great vid nice to see the 4020 out in the field. Hopefully yields will be where you want them to be.
Hey Travis, Catching up.

Very nice video Travis
Corn looks pretty good!!!
enjoyed the video travis thanks
Some of our fields seem to grow golf balls I think we have a carrier bag full somewhere.
I have a unused 12 row JD825 cultivator that would be very cheap.
Sometimes the days just seem to never end
It is looking good
JD 4020 the first 22 years of my life lol
I swear the corn looks taller as soon as you go through it

Boy I miss operating a 4020 miss helping my uncle out
Hey Travis!!
No Mamés, what a longer lines 🤣
Curious what bu/ac difference cultivating vs not cultivating does. Factoring in fuel, fertilizer, time, etc,

Still haven't even started soybeans yet here in the Michigan Thumb. Future forecast is showing a chance of rain everyday, except one, until July 3.

Far from it. It's hard to believe but we know what we're doing.
I live a few miles from a golf course I have seen crows drop them on are fields
Keep the wheels turning on the ground and those eyes on the fields !!

Wow those are some pretty bad ditches. Our farming practices need to change as a nation if this weather is the new norm

Dam your corn looks great
Nice
I think your dad is secretly going out into the field and practicing his chip shots. 😆

Is this very clay soil?
The 4020 is running quite nicely. How many hours are on it?
Not sure it's on the 3rd tach. Never been overhauled. If I had to guess 15000 plus.
That explains the ether can.
You need a 12 row cultivator
how fast do you go cultivate at
Air planes hatch golf ball, right before they flush toilet.
Hard to tell, but doesn't look like it would of made knee high by fourth of July
Why wouldn’t you top dress before you cultivate? Doesn’t make much since to lay it on top when you’re gonna work it
The goal was to top dress when the corn was shoulder height. Can't cultivate when it's that tall.
Throwing urea in tall corn at any rate is going to burn it. It gets down in the whirl opening the plant up to diseases
Have no idea how you keep from running over the rows.

could you not drop most if not all your 28% while puting down this stuff to save a pass over the fields
not a fun day
