  • How can you stop anticipatory anxiety? In the fourth and final episode of Open-Minded, Kendall Jenner sits down with Lori Gottlieb, psychotherapist and New York Times bestselling author of Maybe You Should Talk To Someone, to discuss how a negative view of the future can prevent us from living in the present. Kendall and Lori discuss how to know when anxiety is problematic vs. productive, how anxiety impacts memory and exercises for dealing with anticipatory anxiety.

omg it is absolutely the worst. it's kinda so debilitating and tormenting bc you'll absolutely feel guilty and stress out even more due to the procrastination (that was already due to the anxiety associated with the task in question) so it's just anxiety overload. I went through that when I was writing my master's dissertation and I do not wish to ever deal with anything similar ever again

Just goes to show that mental illness can affect anyone, regardless of privilege, fame, money, beauty…and it’s so great that she, and others with a large public platform are speaking out about mental health. That thought always ate at me after I dropped out, so just let it go. College will always be there to finish, but once u damage ur mental health by trying way too hard to get that degree, it’s hard to heal. So props to you by starting early and prioritizing yourself first!

@sophie that’s okay! If you can, please reach out for help to anyone, friend or family. Just someone hearing you out and not saying anything is the best. But also, I haven’t gone to therapy yet, but constantly trying to let go of your past failures is a important, you didn’t choose to struggle with mental health. It takes time, but remember that you didn’t drop out to spiral again, you deserve that peace of mind. If therapy is accessible, please take it! Ur family would want you healing instead of ruminating and going crazy.

Something that always helps me, when I feel those dreaded anxiety thoughts coming: just to label it ("oh, here we go again, another anxiety bout") and then NOT RESISTING. This is key! The more I resist, the stronger it becomes. It's like craving a donut. If you say no to it, you'll want it more and more, and eventually you have to indulge - and end up having three or four. If you tell yourself to not think about an elephant, what happens? The urge to think about elephants couldn't be stronger. So if you try to resist anxiety, it will only get stronger. You have to embrace that it may always be there, it may always come up, and that's okay! It passes.

hi Kendall🥰 i just wanted to thank you so much for speaking about your anxiety on vogue. I have been going through the same and still can’t really accept my anxiety symptoms but hearing that someone has experience the same made me feel that finally someone could understand what i‘ve been going through because all the people around me never delt with this kind of issue and i never felt that someone would really understand me and what is happening with my body. i just wanted to let you know that i appreciate you opening up about this topic so much and just thank you for sharing your story 💗💗

i’ve always admired Kendall’s personality, she was always my favorite K/J sister, always tried to be real and show us the viewers her genuine self but due to societal standards she always had to (and i’m assuming here) show her pretty smile to cover up what is really going on in that moment. glad she’s opening up more 🥰✨

As a ( retired) NHS high intensity psychotherapist, many of my patients told me that, due to anxiety, their memory was impaired. This can be the case, but its far more likely that, in my professional experience, their attention was mostly directed to threat, or they were preoccupied, and didn't notice as much. Their memories were fine, but their attention and thoughts were distracted. We can only remember what we attend to.

I've always found kendall so likeable.
I love thats she's a scorpio, for one.
But throughout this series, I've also come to realize that I experience anxiety quite regularly, and I've always played it off by convincing myself I was just an overthinker. However, a lot of the things discussed (anticipatory anxiety, social anxiety, etc.), I relate to, so much. I will get anxious weeks before something, I will even get anxious before stepping out of the house by myself, to do something as simple as go for a walk or to put the garbage out. My stress almost always leads to a headache, and more. But this entire series has really opened my eyes.

I know somewhere that Im human and everyone is different. But still I end up thinking about them. And more recently, the covid situation is making me more restless. After watching this I have earned a lot more respect for Kendall Jenner. This really makes her seem more relatable as it’s sometimes hard to really witness her actual personality...until now. Maybe her “lack of personality” was just her defense mechanism for her anticipatory anxiety. Wow.
