Believe it or not, when Tyler was in college, someone DID steal his car radio. He relied on music as ‘medicine’ for his mental health struggles and living without his car radio was devastating.

I definitely see the meaning of this song the way you do. I have an additional vision of it as well. If you're alone in your car without your car radio, you are essentially alone with your thoughts and thereby have to look at things that you might have otherwise drowned out with music. Much respect and thanks for what you do.

Great video definitely do ode to sleep to really check out Tyler's bars and see how they got started this song is all about how we use distractions such as media to mask our real problems and when we are without those distractions we become uncomfortable
The meaning behind the song is someone took the thing that kept him away from himself, most people use drugs/video games/whatever to distract themselves away from the thoughts they are experiencing. It's a great song that is targeted towards people who feel this way, as is most of their music. I love you reaction to them and hope to see more! :D

His car radio represented his desire to talk it was his independence and without it he felt self doubt and insecure.
I remember the first time I ever seen this video (Many years ago)👀 I legit was like “who the hell is this? I LOVE THEM!!” Years later I started to really listen and watch... Went from a banger to go nuts to, to Wow this guy is sad AF cause he is dealing with everything with no distractions and he’s hiding behind his mask ..... Until he found his music and his fans. He now walks out into a crowd full of people also struggling. Not alone after all 💁🏼♀️ It’s beautiful really ♥️ Twenty one pilots is absolutely the best of the best. Love your videos BTW 😘

I think this song touches on mental illness and coping mechanisms and what happens and how you feel when they are removed. It can be catastrophic.

As for your metaphor about the car radio being fantasy, it's more like a distraction that keeps you from thinking about reality. They have a bunch of different styles, they're not a one trick pony. And yeah, their concerts are pretty much like that.

The mask represents a different person when he goes out in crowd he's ok as long as there is noise around, he's not in his head. Then at the end of the video if you noticed the building was empty and if you really noticed his hair. It's not shaved. It may seem like a gimmick, but when he cuts his hair it really strikes a chord. My daughter started cutting her hair for no apparent reason when very young. This progressed to cutting herself and to finally a suicide attempt. Luckily it wasn't successful. Don't dismiss signs such as cutting hair. It's a symptom of depression. A warning sign.
Yea, you got it right. It is a metaphor about facing reality because the radio was his escape. But this was also a legit situation he went through, someone really did steal this mans radio. It's such a deep song, and most of their shit is multiple layers.

Favorite song ever.
If you’re wondering, the message of this song is both literal and metaphorical. In college somebody actually stole his Car Radio which is where the idea came from, but he used that experience to symbolize how people use entertainment like radio, the internet, tv, etc. to distract them from their real problems so when that entertainment is taken away they realize that it’s not ok. The song doesn’t really come to a conclusion it’s kind of an introspective song that leaves you on a cliff hanger and the whole point of the song is to encourage people to think more about real problems and issues so we can work stuff out and become better people.
