I start to tear at the part when the little girl gets on her bike and she waved goodbye. To me I interpret it as Katy saying goodbye to her childhood and accepting the fact that she’s an adult now.
She had to revisit her childhood to face her past and demons. That’s what she was releasing, as she has now healed by facing it. The entire video is a representation of the trauma she’s faced through men, media, etc... showing how she’s been weak and stumbled along the way, but is finally okay.

I had a similar experience watching this music video on repeat in 5th grade 😂 and I thought I just loved the visuals too, but I’m realizing now, at 22 that for me it’s about healing and getting in touch with your inner child who is so resilient and waiting for you to let her be herself again and save you from the pain that was conditioned into you growing up,, so you can finally take care of her too and let her shine again ❤️

Actually what this song means is that she's now a realizes that what a bad decision she made when she sold her soul to the devil when entering the music industry. I didn’t understand this video as a kid. Now that I’m all grown up, I think the little girl represents her inner child or her child self and how she found her and finally protecting her from everything she learned growing up. She didn’t need anyone to protect or save her because she knew all along it will always you helping and healing yourself and your inner child. There’s one scene where the child protected her, that’s probably bcus Katy gained her motivation and strength to face life all over again because she is being reminded that her child self isn’t ready to give up. Butterfly exchange in the end probably represents how she finally made it and to look where she is now, her inner child telling her that it’s all real and not a dream of how much she has achieved in life and healed her child self ❤️

Her Never Really Over should have been her another hit on Billboard, Small Talk should be only track and Harley's in Hawaii is underrated and it's wrong timing to released last year.
