It's arena football. They don't get the top tier players so a majority of the appeal comes from the fact that it's a 50 yard field so games tend to be higher scoring, and the stands come right up to the field borders so players can be hit in to the walls or even the stands.
Definitely, and even in the regular season, you’ll play the same team 3 or 4 games in a row, so like you said, lots of opportunity for grudges to boil over.
No they don’t. They get a day break in between series sometimes and there’s also a thing called the offseason 😅 not to mention the all star break. So no they literally do not play every single day. And also, really think about how much the average baseball player runs during a game, really not much compared to other sports. If you’re good, you get 2-3 hits a night so there’s the base running. And if you’re an outfielder you have to run balls down but usually there are pretty dang long gaps in between those deep fly balls 😂 it’s not like they’re being pushed to their physical limits. Maybe besides the pitcher and catcher. I love baseball, don’t get me wrong but don’t act like they’re put under nearly the same amount of stress as football or basketball players or even soccer or track 😂
@@TheJstroud24 I don’t think anyone was claiming that baseball players are under the same physical requirements as basketball, soccer, or football players. The point was that when facing the same team often it can lead to beefs and emotional rivalries. Also, though a single game is not terribly taxing for a position player, they play 162 games a season plus playoffs if they make it, with maybe 3-4 off days a month. The sheer amount of travel and varying sleep schedules can be mentally and physically exhausting, also leading to meltdowns and blowups. Not to mention the game involves a hard ball being thrown at high speeds at you every day. That can raise tempers too.

The Andrew Bynum foul was from when the Mavericks and Lakers played in 2011. This is happened in game 4 and was the last game of the series (Mavericks swept them and went on to win the title, go Mavs!). I think Bynum was suspended for 5 games to start the following season.
At 26:57, that was Billy Sims... He was drafted in 1980 and played until 84 ....Sims' career ultimately ended midway through the 1984 season when he suffered a catastrophic right knee injury in a game against the Minnesota Vikings on October 21. Sims remains a beloved sports figure in Detroit. His team uniform number 20 was worn five years after his retirement by Barry Sanders, and is currently retired as an unofficial "triumvirate" of the greatest Lions in the modern era to ever wear the number, which also includes Hall of Fame defensive back Lem Barney.
33:07 Yes, Dave your 100% correct. This is why taunting is a penalty in football and American sports. If they allowed it, every game could become a 'Malice at the Palace' type incident.
Every game could? That's a bit of a stretch. Especially when you consider that calling taunting penalties don't always happen, they are largely referee and situation dependent.
"can we clarify the pause button" 😂mike thinks he's gonna press the self destruct button on the laptop 9:04 is the one clip i expected to see on here. he actually broke caruso's arm there with that foul, caruso was one of their best players and was out for a good while
It’s even more fun to see Brits reacting to American sports for some reason. Much love for you guys across the pond, worked with Brits in the military and they were cool dudes.
it's funny Dave mentioned being grabbed by the back of the neck.. i think there's something built into men that when other people grab or hold our neck or back it sets us off. it makes me feel claustrophobic.
Totally right on the basketball take at 21:00. Players will dish it back out, but also like Allen there (who is 7'1") just kind of shrugged the flagrant elbow off and stopped himself from throwing a punch.
15:27 This hit on Wes welker is absolutely brutal. There’s no chance he doesn’t have a serious concussion after that if not broken ribs. Wes was one of my favorite players. He was a little undersized and not the fastest but he was so shifty and quick and never seemed to drop the ball, but he sustained so many head injuries during his career that it eventually forced him to retire
Its always interesting watching the level that is considered disrespectful in each sport. In the NBA, talking at someone can be a tech, in Football holding too long, in hockey... if the fistfight goes on too long 🤣🤣
Woody Hayes punches player is a crazy one. Legendary coach who just lost it after his team was picked off and decked the guy....and of course rightfully canned.
Seeing Antonio Brown step on the face mask of the Browns' player, reminds me of All Black Jonah Lomu (RIP) stepping on the face of England's Mike Catt in the 1995 Rugby World Cup semi-final. Only Catt did not have a face mask. No “menace to society" moment, but more of a "There's a new sheriff in town" take on it. Cheers.
With Michigan wisconsin basketball coaches clip it’s customary in basketball to shake hands with the other teams head coach after a game and the Michigan guy refused to which is why wisconsin guy gets upset they start talking and Michigan guy throws a punch at a wisconsin assistant coach. The timeout they’re talking about was called towards to the end of game when wisconsin had already won but Michigan was still trying hard which is why they called it.
In basketball, a flagrant 1 is like a yellow card, its unnecessary toughness to the foul and a warning, if a player accumulates another one, it turns into a flagrant 2 which ejects them from the game. Flagrant 2 is called, its an auto ejection from the game and possible suspensions to follow, like a red card. Flagrant 2's are more to be called if it could lead to injuries or concussions, or if a player has a history of it and the refs wont let them carry on to keep the game under control. Bynum around 19:00 got a flagrant 2 and a 5 game suspension in 2011, when the league was a little more physical, now it would probably lead to a longer suspension.
19:30 In the US fines and punishment come very quickly. Like days after the infraction. It's usually determined by the league office. It something that always surprised me about our football (soccer) that they take ages, and have long appeals. I very much get the impression that for lots of violent contacts or incidents of verbal abuse in football they authorities aren't always serious about stamping it out. Like they'd let it go if they could.
7:08 Ortiz never doped up, hes just a big man. Rarely lost his temper but when he did, watch out 12:20 North Carolina and Duke are huge rivalry in basketball, with 2 to 3 hour drive separating the campuses
The one time its ever acceptable for a man to kick another man in the balls is if you have your helmet knocked off and somebody tries to fight you with their helmet on.
The NBA suspends and fines you if you get off the bench and join the altercation. As a die-hard Suns fan, I know quite well about this rule... Also while the fines are relatively affordable to most of the NBA players, a five figure fine still hurts. For players on the court during the play, they are allowed to try to separate the players fighting, but if they attack other players (including pussy shoves) they can also be fined. It sucks but I get it. I'm not a huge baseball fan, but that's one of the things I like about the MLB, the players on the benches are allowed to rush out and help out their teammates.
I attribute short tempers in baseball to the fact that you constantly have 95 mile per hour hard balls thrown at you and everyone is on edge because of it
It can make someone's eyes cross and fuck their balance for a few seconds if you get a clean slap on their earhole with the fat part of your palm. That's why modern helmets don't have those circular protruding earholes anymore. The split up angular holes prevent that kind of thing from happening.
This is very enjoyable. I think you guys would enjoy watching the video titled, 'Art Donovan On His Dirty Style Of Football - David Letterman', from the Dave Letterman show in the 80s.
Ortiz is angry because pitchers refuse to pitch to him so they throw 3 straight balls and never hit the strike zone so he walks, then the ref can’t even get that right
We were taught in school playing football. if the ref is in the way run him over. They are part of the field. But it has to be during a play and nothing to overtly violent. This was the best way to get back at the ones who made bad calls and it was legal within the rules.
Some of these baseball umpires are lucky the players show the proper restraint. they act like kings out there...can't argue balls and strikes they can throw you out whenever they want with no recourse....if one of the players ever just says "screw it" and goes for it, the umpire will be leaving in a wheelchair.
I've never seen that Clemson Duke foul early. Good Lord, he could have killed that guy. Getting up high enough to dunk I have experience with, getting undercut like that...no one on a court I played would pull that BS
playing in the 90 in the city, ya asked around if anyone had next. If not call next pick your team and winner stays on the court. Only egregious fouls were called and you had to call them yourself. If you called a soft foul you definitely got hated on

OB Dave always say that baseball has a lot of inaction, however this is not true. The pitcher and batter has action. Hitting a baseball is the hardest thing in sports. A pitcher throwing 100 miles an hour is action. Striking out a professional baseball player is action. Hitting a baseball is also action. The game is full of drama. It has more action than Soccer. @Gregory Williams As someone that grew up watching the Cubs daily on WGN, I disagree. Baseball and Soccer are equally as boring. Baseball is either strike out or homer. There's no manufacturing runs anymore. I can't remember the last game I watched and someone stole a base. Regard OB Dave's comment, I think he's referring to action outside of what is required to play the game....pitching and batting are requirements.

It should be encouraged! Home field advantage babygirl.
