No Engineers had their salaries cut. lol. I've worked for Kawasaki and have family that still do. One of the best companies I have worked for.

Paintjob on the ZX-10RR is stunning.
IMHO The fairing isn't anywhere near as ugly as some are suggesting - they've effectively hidden the winglets - something other manufacturers haven't done - there's also the family resemblance with the H2 / H2R.
@Chris Dsilva You do understand those design cues are there for a purpose , right? How can you even comment on the sharpness of the bike if you haven't even tried it out?

Although you're right to say that there's been a departure from what we might expect of the ZX-10R aesthetically, it's not been done just for the sake of it - there are many pressures on motorcycle engineers, because of the constantly changing demands of the public, the race teams and legislation - it can't be easy at all.
Car designers have a comparatively easy job of repackaging, given that bodywork hides a multitude of sins, yet most modern cars are pretty unadventurous, amorphous and homogeneous.
Motorcycle designers face the same issues without the luxury of being able to hide these, (often enforced) changes.
Staying away from electronics and emissions demands, (too big and convoluted to get into here - plus I'm not smart enough to make any meaningful comments) and sticking with the aesthetics, I think that Kawasaki have done an excellent job of addressing the 'aero' requirements.*
The front fairing could have been slimmer or sharper, but then you'd have winglets, which look horrendous IMHO - Ducati's Supersports range looks awful because of this fad - they look like a stuck on afterthought, whereas Kawasaki have made them an integral part of the fairing.
The subframe/seat unit probably had to follow the same theme or it'd look out of place.
I get that the 'face' / headlight cowl is very different from what we're used to, but I'd imagine that it's down to the H2R family influence, and the face does seem to periodically change following a schedule - every four years as far as I can tell (2016 -) (2012 - 15), (2008 - 11), (2004 - 07), so I think it's going to look like that till 2024.
Designers can't win - Suzuki GSX-R is too bland, never changing, while the Yamaha R1 is too small, after the previous two (cross plane onwards) were too bulky, Ducati Panigale V4 - gorgeous until they slapped the wings on it, and Honda get accused of playing it safe...even when they don't.
This is all merely my thoughts - I'm certainly not suggesting that I know what I'm talking about, but that's how I see it.
*Winglets - a fad?
I kinda think so tbh - I can understand race teams making these demands, but do retail customers need them?
I understand that the silhouette must remain for race purposes, but they seem largely pointless for the average person.
Anyway, please understand that I'm not disagreeing - looks are subjective - I'm just saying that it's not easy keeping everyone happy.

Great looking bike
I have been an avid ZX-10R fan for about 7 years. Absolutely love them. I am also buying a new ZX-10R and this new 2021 Model.... will not be it.
That front end is a step back on visual design aesthetic. 2020 Model it is.
the front end look bad and good at the same time, they could improve it on the next facelift, also the side fairing looks tacky, overall this bike ( especially in this color and that all green color) looks more like a chinese rip off bike than a top tier japanese bike.
Not new facelift please next new bike!

This is, what I thought. I own a ZX-10R KRT Performance 2020. The bike has the same engine (203ps), I like to race and have no need for color display, cruise control or heated handle bars. I need power and a lightweight bike. Both things didn't changed. Hope Rea is not too frustrated...

They shoud keep previous design with little bit of changes in cosmetics, with new tech and new engine.

@Chris Dsilva Kawasaki zx10r 2020 is good bike... Actually I am from India there is only one international track which is known as Buddh international Circuit.... So when I first hopped in.... the bike for the first time it seems to be very confident in pit.. and I seems to be... I will just blast off the track... This was my feelings on the exit of the pit...but there is only a few faulty things like it doesn't get any driver sitting maybe the 2021 has got that... The main problem is when I turn off the traction control everything turns off likely Willie control cornering traction etc etc so when I push hard to the corner bike just skid off and I got a really big and bad high side.... Maybe this has been rectified......
@Chris Dsilva Handling is osum... It's really nimble to ride.... Bt yaa at lower RPM it doesn't seems to be as a litre class bike bt after 6000-7000 RPM the inline 4 engine wakes up 😂....
Believe me brother the confidence I got in zx10r I never got such grt confidence in other bikes... Even when rode Ducati panigale v4 I gotcha zero confidence level... The prob is when we turn off traction control everything turns off... That makes difficulty in fast corners or at the exit of the corner... Front end ming blogging OMG I never rode such a bike with such a osum front end👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

all the hate and mock for the looks is just typical. we saw this typical attitude for years now. when the first gen S1000RR released with that asymetric headlight, people can't stop mocking it. the same thing happen witn yamaha R1/R1M 2015, all people call it ugly.
and those two bikes sold like a hot cakes for years. people considering it cool now, that unique looks.
sometimes we just needs more time for a new design to grow on us. most of the one who mocking can't even afford to buy it afterall. I bet.

I'll never even consider to replace my gen 5 with this.Doesn't matter how many more rpm's it got or if the "winglets" are integrated.It's ugly period!If I ever want to upgrade I'll simply buy H2R!
Love kawasaki but I think the front end design is best only for the H2/H2R, now 10R looks like a clone and it's uniqueness of design is gone. I was thinking for a 10R as my first 1000cc bike but now I'm thinking I'll get a 600 or something....
Sorry Kawasaki, you are too top end race motorcycle focused, how about looking back at some mid sized retro universal japanese motorcycles in the fantastic paint schemes of your heritage past, can not be that hard, you nailed the z900rs , especialy the candy tone green model.
