  • UV water purification is an excellent and efficient means of expelling living organisms from your water. By using a UV lamp to emit UV rays capable of killing living organisms in water, the UV water system effectively treats your water in conjunction with your complete water treatment systems.
John Woodard, our Master Water Specialist, is here to help answer all your questions about UV water systems.

    • @timgiles9413

      5 micron, then a 1 micron then add a .35 micron filter.
Yes, they make them that small.
A .35 micron is equal to 350 nanometers.
Viruses are around 25 nanometers in size.
Then zap the viruses with the UV light to kill them. :)

Very informative video thanks for posting. However there are just a couple outstanding questions Which you hadn't touched upon.
    1. How much time does the UV light need to stay in contact with the water passing though it to fully be effective in "killing" all the bacteria which might be present?
    2. Is the light on some sort of limit switch which would turn the light on and off when it senses water flow, or is it on all the time? Personally I would think you could extend the life of the bulb if it is not on when there is no water usage being passed through the system.

blue LED is the last LEDs that were made and UV is still in it's infancy in LED. The benefit to those is they can turn on immediately.
These types of lights take a long time to "warm up" so there's no on/off unless you don't want to kill everything. Also the living organisms will move up the pipe by themselves while the water isn't flowing so it isn't good.
Now there are methods to combat this, if you install 2x (two) of these units + a check valve you can pre-kill everything and then kill it again a few feet down the line, this allows you to do a on/off system without worrying about bacteria swimming down the line, also without having to worry about them getting past while the lights warm up.
I'd also have a timer for a minimum of 2 minutes on time when they do turn on, so it isn't on/off really fast or whatever.

    • @zeqprime1054

it takes upto 10 seconds of UV light at the correct wavelength (100-280nm)... which is why i don't understand these systems.. there is no physical way the water in that filter gets 10 seconds of exposure while the water is actually flowing unless you are using a trickle of water... to actually be effective.. you would need about 5 of these units in-line to actually be effective
