I think I need you to babysit Henry for a week or two for me haha . I cannot get over how calm your birds are handling…so svelte too! It’s soooooooo beautiful wow I love it
Some nice looking youngsters, James. 👍.. Good luck in the OLR's. We'll see ya at the Martinez Classic for sure. And the Apple Cup if you send there too.
Looking good, good luck this year. I like to keep some notes on my birds as well. A lot of people should be journaling their birds more frequently. Helps a lot for the further of understanding one’s bird.
Ha, I was going to start this comment with- hope your doing well.....but after seeing tou handle that group of YBs I would imagine your doing just fine. Looking good.
@@BoroviewFarm I usually wean them a little later than most and do it primarily on appearance. Generally around 22 days old I put them on the floor. Then around 30 days I’ll put them in their own section.
James, besides pedigree, what other factors should we consider when grading a pigeon, like they do on auction sites? What are the most critical factors in quality control? I'm working on creating an Excel file to track all the birds I have.
That is great to hear! Ultimately, the only thing that proves a bird's worth is performance; either as a breeder or racer or both. But, when I'm grading my YBs before I send them out I'm mostly looking to weed out the weak ones. I like to see birds with good balance, strength (in the wing), and overall health. I like to see tight, closed vent bones but not all my birds have that, and that's OK. Hope that helps
I use two. I use a Google Sheets to track all the young birds that I breed each year. For managing breeders and pedigrees I use PigeonDB. I’ll do a video on that soon.
Beautiful birds 😍 love that purple Greek x franklin cross first yb
Thank you! She is one of my favorites 😍

How do you know when to wean them? Age, appearance, behaviors?
