Hooray for Oswald West! OW was governor of Oregon from1911 to 1914. While Governor he established that the Oregon beaches were public up to the high tide line.
There used to be a walk in campground near Short Sand Beach, up in the woods near the stream. You'd leave your car at the parking lot and pack your camping gear on state park wheel barrows. It was a great place to camp. But one winter a bad wind storm blew a bunch of trees down, and they closed the camp ground down.
Ahhh the Green Salmon in Yachats! I used to live there and worked at the Salmon around 2013. The best views from the stretch between Newport to Cape Perpetua in my eyes, as far as sunsets go. Lol between Yachats, and Florence on the 101 had some of the curviest stretches of road.... Felt like a huge playground to me while I was there. Thanks for the kick right to my nostalgia! 👣❤

Loved the video! Brought back memories of my solo bike tour of the Pacific coast in 2014. From Vancouver, BC down to San Diego, CA. Oregon coast was my favorite, so many beautiful locations! I road out of Portland, with a day ride to Multnomah Falls, and then out to Astoria and down along the coast until Sonoma, CA and went inland before San Francisco. My first southerly coast trek was from Cannon Beach, Haystack Rock was a wonderful sight, and where you spent the night, I got caught out by a huge rain storm trying to ride over the top of that mountain. I had to walk it because it was too dangerous. I wish it was sunny because the view must be breathtaking. I spent two days riding in the downpour until Cape Kiwanda! I hope to return to Oregon some day to fully explore it in detail with my camera.
Another great video with wonderful scenery which brought back lots of good memories. In 1969 I went to see as a trainee officer, as a wide eyed 16 year old the flight from London to Tokyo was a real eye opener. After leaving Japan our first port of call was Portland, a coincidence for a shipping company called the Oregon Steamships , I have such great memories of the kindness shown by the citizens of Portand and Astoria . I enjoy your videos for the joy of life, in a way you remind me of my beloved granddaughter who is much your age. I lived the little cat joining you for lunch , I travel in a UK motorhome with my three Siamese cats. Camper behaved so well with the cat.
My wife and I raised our kids in Seaside and lived 1/2 mile from the beach. We sold the house about 4 years ago and lived in our toy hauler RV for 3 1/2 years. We just bought a house near Roseburg, OR last summer. I love following your story and your travels. If you ever need help or a place to rest near Roseburg, we have space. Travel safe!

I live in South FL. People call this paradise. Nothing is here to call it paradise but the ocean that unless you live on it, you can’t see it and in the Summer it is too hot to do anything. I lived in OR for a couple of years. Now, that is true paradise ! Words cannot describe how beautiful it is! From everything being green, so much land, hiking , mountains and the Pacific Ocean. South FL doesn’t even come close . Even the people are so nice. Unfortunately, I had to move back to this hot flat boring state but someday I will be back out there !

Loved the Oregon footage. I am amazed that Camper is on leash the whole time. Mine would never last. Can't imagine the sand that he would track into the car but I am sure he is super happy. Loved the kitten scene,,thought for a moment you may have a stowaway.
But the kitty hanging out for lunch! You guys are so fun to watch- I also recommend visiting the South Jetty in Florence. You can stay overnight there, and the beach is as sandy and beautiful as it gets! Look for the lot at the very end of the road, as it takes you straight to the beach, with multiple pull-outs along the 2-ish mile road. You can find the entrance just south of the bridge leaving town on the 101.

Interesting Facts about Oregon's Coast and Rivers: The entire length of Oregon's coastline is public property. There is no restriction to access from Washington to California except where hazardous or endangered habitat. Most beaches you can camp overnight on with no hassles, even if not posted. The waterways in the state are all public access up to the high water mark of record, so you can travel any of the rivers you see and generally camp a couple days as long as you're within the public right of way. Please come visit when you can. The shellfish tags cover most you'll harvest - just go find a diggable spot in the bays at low tide and you'll find something to eat if you scratch around a bit. Wear boots and bring a small rake. :-)

I got most of the supplies and I am going to start next week! 🥰🥰🥰🥰 Next week weather is supposed to be crazy. Check the forecast carefully before going over any passes. 😬🎯

You should look into getting a harness for your dog and one of those leashes that you can attach to your waist. I have one and it's nice to be able to walk your dog hands free. Could come come in handy for hiking.

As a family we used to camp at Short Sands Beach back in the day when there was a campground. Some of the best memories of my childhood were made at that beach.
Camper has to be one of the luckiest dogs in history. Sort of like my little guy, who had a life of riding motorcycles (loved it), sailing (not his fave), beaches (big yes), and hikes in the snow (even bigger yes). Not the typical Shih Tsu life, but he was up for all of it. Long may Camper roam with you!
