  • A lot more Tekla users are receiving IFC files and with that, we need to know how to work with them. This introduction to some of the basics of IFC covers import, filters, and converting objects.

    If I’m creating a tekla str model at origin (0,0,0) and I need the ifc of the same to be set at different coordinates. Is it possible to do it ? The ifc file which will be used by other sw like E3D or PDMS to be kept in plant cooridate.

      Yes, around 2:15 I start talking about changing the project coordinates. This affects the import and export of IFC files.

    Can we also convert concrete slabs and walls to native objects?

    • @TrimbleTeklaDave
      @TrimbleTeklaDave 4 года назад

      In some cases, yes. Just like steel there are different types of data in the IFC. Some can be converted to native, and some become a 'brep' object that is basically a one-of-a-kind in the model created by the IFC conversion. So it's there, in the model, but doesn't really behave like a normal part.

    What do you mean by native objects and how do you able to get x,y,z coordinates

    • @TrimbleTeklaDave
      @TrimbleTeklaDave 4 года назад +1

      By 'native' I mean Tekla parts (beams/columns) vs a reference object that you cannot interact with. Native parts have weight, area, etc calculated and you can apply connections and make drawings. The second part of your question is too vague. XYZ of what? The model? The IFC? The individual parts? There are different places to inquire or change all of these things.

      @@TrimbleTeklaDave thanks for the reply.I am sorry about the second question,let me make precise.how to get XYZ coordinates of IFC as well as live model we are working on.

      @@vinodck6718 Under the File Menu you can set/change "Project Base Points" to change the import and export locations for your IFC files.

    Hey Dave
    Thanks for sharing such a nice video. I am facing a different issue. I have checked in IFC file it is satisfying both conditions you described in video. But still I am not able to convert it to native objects. I tried to import from File > Import > CIM STEEL option but import window closes down after showing error of "Manufacturing model".
    Do you have any idea how to resolve this issue ?

    • @TrimbleTeklaDave
      @TrimbleTeklaDave 3 года назад

      CIMsteel is an import for a different type of file. The conversion for IFC files is under the Manage tab as shown in the video.

    • @chitranshu88
      @chitranshu88 3 года назад

      @@TrimbleTeklaDave yes I followed all the steps you have described in video but for me it is not working.

      @@chitranshu88 Why did you go to the CIMsteel option? When you try and convert through the method in the video, what happens?

    • @chitranshu88
      @chitranshu88 3 года назад

      @@TrimbleTeklaDave I have imported IFC file as per the instructions in video but I am not able to select any member. IFC conversion will happen until I select members.
      That's why go to CIMSteel option. But nothing is working. Importing through CIMSteel option it says it is manufacturing model.
      I don't know what is manufacturing model.

    • @TrimbleTeklaDave
      @TrimbleTeklaDave 3 года назад +1

      @@chitranshu88 Now we're getting somewhere. You did not mention that you cannot select a member, which is the real problem. Again, CIMsteel is a totally different file type, not for IFC's. So don't worry about that. Do you have the 'select reference models' button pressed down in the bottom left of your screen? (button looks like a 3d cube, in between 'select reference lines' and 'select bolt groups'). This is what most people miss.

    why Tekla structure does not convert bolts in IFC files???

    • @TrimbleTeklaDave
      @TrimbleTeklaDave Год назад

      Bolts and welds in different softwares are handled quite differently from one another. Only “parts”, like steel and concrete members will convert.
