Here's an idea... Give James a couple of years off to rest his voice, and bring Charlie back in for an album and tour. He sounds better than ever on recent recordings, and if they tailored the setlist to his voice, it could be amazing.
That's a revolutionary idea to have Domnici and Portnoy back. While auditioning for DT, Mike Magnini mentions the fans would want him to play exactly like how it's on the records. Well, every one does it on a six Sigma level but for James. I first heard DT in 1997 and followed all their records. Only after RUclips's arrival did I get to see DT live. As a uber fan of DT I empathized with James for many years. As years grew over and I would plug DT into ears of all I met. Usually, 'Only a matter of time/the killing hand/fortune in lies'. Folks turned to becoming instant fans of DT would later tell me DT is the best of Progressive but for the vocals on live concerts. I mean, we keep going back to live in Tokyo, Budokon and Rio to refresh our memories. Festivals from Download to Wacken to Scores from a memory and the anniversaries celebrating decades of hard work and prog rock are so big and beautiful untill the fourth line of the opening song goes way beyond the glory. The way beyond the so blue....only Mike Portnoy and Domnici can rivitte it back to Dream Theater that's true.
Not even that, just have him around and make him sing 2 of his songs, 1 of James that fits his voice and to help him in 1 or 2 hard songs, It works for Helloween so well that Kiske voice sounds rested even in the last tour dates.
Wow... despite the sound quality you can still hear that they played and sang -almost- flawlessly. And look at the crowd! Are there 20 people or even less? And how many if you exclude friends&family? Lol... Such a privilege to have listened Dream Theater in that setting :)
Just bought the 2004 reissue WDADU, haven't heard it yet. I always thought the original lacked in the production department in terms of the studio mixing and treatment. Yet, it didn't stop it from being my 2nd favorite dream theater. The first being "Images and Words" of course. Great upload.
I always liked Charlie's style over James. He just couldn't hit the super high notes. I lived across the street from February's. A club DT played a few times. I actually saw them once as an instrumental band. They had fired Charlie but hasn't hired James yet. If I only knew then what I truly was experiencing. WDAU is still my fave DT album and in my top 5 prog metal albums ever.
same. James is annoying with his shrieking and yelling. People worship "Innocence Faded" - it's unlistenable noise to me. this guy was great.WDADU will remain their best album on all levels. Great song writing, the sound they had all around was perfect. I was happy when I&W came out but damn, was it different and extremely produced.
@@bryanerickson2905 also as they both got older Charlie was definitely more realistic with what he could achieve with his voice. As seen in the 2004 ”reunion” concert when they did metropolis.
Labrie has been exaggeratedly better. Dominici didn't know how to sing and his style was very strange, that's why they fired him. The albums Images & words and Awake are unbeatable. WDADU would have been perfect with Labrie.
Rest In Peace Charlie. Can't believe you're gone.
You've now entered the 'Afterlife' 😢💔.
This lineup deserves a lot more credit than it receives.
compositionally such a great album!
its like 80s pop rock on steroids
Status Seeker always reminded me of synth era Rush but made a tad heavier.. Charlie even sounded a wee bit like Ged on that song if you ask me
what a beautiful voice
When Dream And Day Unite is genial album.

@@homerc9101Bruh he just died
I love the anxious mannerisms from Dominici.
Can't complain about his vocal performance though..!
Woow! Thanks for sharing. Dominici is a fine singer and Petrucci ruled even back in the 80ies
Came for dominici stayed for kevin
Amaizing! Thanks to share
Always loved this song. Bought this album when it first came out. Can't believe so many years have passed. Thanks for the upload.

I almost feel John Petrucci was so much more on his game back then than he is now.
Sounds like playback (in a good way), perfectly executed!
Such an exquisit voice should have continued to produce such amazing speciments....what a waste of this amazing talent :(
Genius on keys

Where did you find this record? Did they play The Killing Hand?
Thank you for the upload, that's awesome, I'm watching this video 2-3 times per week
years ago I spoke to mr Dominci, cause some majesty clips licked out....He said some videos were only for friends...probably this was one of them
Is that a Fisher Price drum kit?
which pixel is Charlie Dominici?
