    I enjoy pen and ink. I like my Rapidiograph and My Micron Fine Liners. Have enjoyed these since 1977. In Spring of 2022 I gave the Rapidiograph pen a thorough cleaning. It took about four days. It came back to almost a brand new condition. So rewarding!

    Hi Amy, you "brushed" over ... lol, Pitt fineliners (they don't only have brush tips) and another great one is Uni Pin, just for anyone wanting even more ideas! Also, there are many Japanese brands that are fade proof and permanent and are awesome x Nell

    Platinum Carbon Black works perfectly in fountain pens and great with dip pens.

    Hi Amy, when I work with dip pens and acrylic ink for example...I use wet wipes to clean them, it works a charm, so try that on the pen nibs where the ink has dried. I also use the reservoir watercolor brush pens and fill them with acrylic ink. I store with these brush pointing up so that the pigment can't clog the brush between the section of the brush and the reservoir.

    I’ve been getting ready to get started in pen and ink. The Goulet Pen Company was giving away a sample set of trial size ink for signing up for their newsletter and also one for your birthday. So I have quite a few ink choices and I picked up a fountain pen with a converter also. So this video came at the perfect time to give me an idea of how to get started. I had filled my pen and was messing around with mark making but then let it set for a couple weeks and it dried up. I just cleaned it out yesterday and it’s ready to go again. I’m excited to give it a try!

      I love the ease and convenience of a fountain pen! It gives you the best of both worlds; you have a huge array of inks you can use, but you don't have to be dipping it in a pot of ink (and maybe knocking it over!) every ten seconds! Thanks for taking the time to watch, Jenn! I appreciate it!

    Thanks for an excellent introduction to the use of ink in the art-making process. I've done a couple of Inktobers with just ink but my real preference is to use ink as part of line & wash with watercolours providing that 'little something different'. I use fineliners quite a lot but I really like my fountain pen (a Pilot Metro one like yours) with Noodlers ink. I've never had any problems with Noodlers smearing when water is applied but I have read reports that its degree of 'waterproofness' can vary depending on the particular brand of paper. Incidentally, I have to say that those ink drawings you showed at the beginning of the video were absolutely stunning. Thanks again for the video - with Inktober less than four months away, you might have got a lot of us thinking about giving our inks and various nibs a trial run-out in preparation for the big month. Kind regards, Brian.

      I love inktober! I have never yet managed to do all 30 days, but I still have a lot of fun! I look forward to it every year! Last year, I did all my drawings with a dip pen and I feel so much more confident using them now! I really need to get a the noodlers black ink! And maybe test my noddlers brown ink on some different papers and see what happens, so thanks for the tip! And thank you for taking the time to watch and leave a comment!

    I love pentel brush, I had mine for over 10 years and I only replaced it recently because I was sooo stupid to trim it a bit and I ruined it 😂😂😂 just a tip it can get Juicy, so it's great for backgrounds but if you want it for drawing tiny details keep the pen standing for couple of minutes so the ink will go down and will be easier to draw with, I only used it with alcohol markers so far and they are wonderful, just make sure to dry before coloring.

    • @winterwoodsstudio
      @winterwoodsstudio  Год назад +1

      Thanks for all the tips! I appreciate them! I generally only use the brush pens when I'm doing a purely ink piece. But I will be sure to let it dry thoroughly if I am going to do any color after!

    Thank you for this great video!😁 My first art love is graphite and pen and ink…now it’s watercolor too! I’ve been using Pigma Micron pens since Jr High and absolutely love them, but the nibs wear down on me fast like you said. My art store got in some new pens a couple years ago that have won me over. They are the Pentel Pointliners. They have a plastic nib so they don’t wear down as fast as the Microns so they last longer and they write/draw like the Microns. I thought you might like to try them! I’d love to see more pen and ink drawings. Again, thank you for this informative video.😊😊😊

    Awesome vid despite the hiccup! Love the turtle! I really do love pen and ink. Most of my watercolor paintings are line and wash. I would really love to see the long version of this because I really would like to improve my ink skills. I've started Inktober on a few occasions but have never made it past 9 or 10 days...lol. I am trying to use up my stash of Microns because I have the same issues with wearing out the nibs. Staedtler also makes good pens. I have the .5 but havent yet found them in smaller sizes. That could be because I haven't bought a variety pack of them. Oh, and I've been using Noodlers ink in my Lamy pen. I thought it was completely waterproof like my microns when I bought it, but it's not quite. And you have to let it dry for a little while to dry before use. I haven't had any issues with the pen and that particular ink though. That being said, I've only had the ink for a couple of months so who knows. I try to make sure that I use the pen as often as possible to keep things flowing.

      Don't feel bad about finishing inktober! I have never managed to do every single day. I think last year was my best one yet, and I still only managed 20 day! Life intervenes sometimes and there is nothing we can do! And as far as the microns, Blick's has them open stock, for the cheapest price around. You can get exactly the size you need, without having the ones you don't use. Thank you for takin the time to watch and leave a comment, Tracie! I appreciate it!

    Don’t be scared…. FP’s don’t clog that easily, I’ve had Carbon Black and De Atramentis Document Black in my Lamys, Pilots and Schneider FP’s for near two years and they’re still fine, I’ve even not used them for over 6 months before, and they’re fine, I try to at least do a test scratch with them every week or 2 and I keep them horizontal). I mean, I wouldn’t use in a $200 or $1000 pen (but I wouldn’t buy one that expensive lol). I was sick of being “terrified” that my pens would be ruined but then not having a good waterproof ink in them, and I did research on groups, Google, Reddit, Quora, etc etc for 3 months straight reading all the “don’t do it/do it” arguments and then bit the bullet and just decided to risk it, they’re just pens after all, and I can always buy more if it didn’t work out… luckily, I guess, it’s working out for me 🤗🤗
    I also refill my “disposable” Pigma Microns all the time, just pull the nib with tweezers and drip Indian/Bombay ink in with a syringe (if the nib is still good, of course, lol)… Indian ink is super cheap and waterproof!
