These brothers are the epitome of going against the grain and living in their truth. They have never compromised their standards from the gate. Rhyme technicians par excellence. Such an integral part of my undying love for Hip Hop. I take my hat off to these Fellaz. Rest in power Dave🕊️❤
Yes my ❤️ like minded individual ...been listening since the beginning in 914 NY...WHEN IT WAS COMING OUT....DE LA SOUL IS DEAD IS MY FAVORITE...IVE POPPED 3 TAPES IN MY CAREER (JUST FOR RE-BUYING THAT ONE ALBUM IF I LOST IT OR SOME ONE STOLE IT'S FROM MY CAR LOLOL AND SAW THEM LIVE IN COLLEGE
i was in selkirk manitoba canada when i heard this tape. i was fucking blown away and still am. my mom was in love with this tape as well, when she would pick me up this was in the player
Damn straight...growing up in the 70s and 80s, listening to the more hardcore rappers/groups first time I heard DeLa I'm like 🤯🤯🤯 ...the funk hooked me in, the lyrics hit me deep 😂....man we had some fkn awesome music back then.
indeed, but they hadn’t crossed over like Me Myself & I, then DeLa’s 2nd drop Potholes proved that a DAISY Age could thrive…. how many bands followed suit that year?
I remember the first time I heard Bonita Applebum! The summer before my first year in college, the bbq parties on my block kept playin strange new hip hop/soul/experimental...it would be months before i learned it was Tribe Called Quest. Later that fall in college, Tribe, De La, Jungle Bros., Leaders of the New School, PE....that was the soundtrack of my college years and I'm so grateful for that!
As far as the originations of conscious rap in Hip-Hop goes, BDP’s “By Any Means Necessary” and Public Enemy’s “It Takes a Nation of Millions To Hold Us Back” really set it off, as KRS-ONE stated in “Outta Here”. But De La Soul “3 Ft and Rising” did spark the Native Tongues movement and open the door for other artists like Jungle Bros, ATCQ, Monie Love, Queen Latifah, Chi Ali, Black Sheep, etc. R.I.P. Trugoy the Dove aka Plus Two
I met Maceo at a gig he DJ'd for some mutual friends and spoke with him backstage for about half an hour...we talked about growing older and watching our kids grow up and he told me that the first college football game he was able to go see his son Tre play he ran a punt back 90 something yards for a TD and how he remembered all the pee wee league and high school games he went to and how he was so proud he cried. Very down to earth and humble 🙏 love De La
This song and video clearly shows why this group was so phenomenal! They came out the gate original!!! De La Soul was Genuine, original, innovative, Master lyricists, great songwriters, thinkers outside of the box! ....Humble. what an amazing group! When I first heard this song back in '89, sitting at home listening to "DJ Red Alert goes berserk" Bronx NY, I ALMOST FELL OFF MY CHAIR! I WAS LIKE WHO IN THE WORLD ARE THESE GUYS!? Little did I know greatness was forming! 34 years in they're still great. Dave the Dove will be sorely missed! May De La Soul live on strong!
I remember the first time I saw this video. It was a Thursday, video music box, it was the last video that Ralph McDaniels played. I was 11, in 7th grade and I was enthralled. I’d never seen or heard anything like this. I begged my mom to get this tape for me. We went to The Wiz and I absolutely loved this album from beginning to end. De La is unreal.
The Wiz was the bomb. You must be from NY. I remember waiting on line when Biggie dropped his Life After Death album. I had to be one of the 1st to cop it. God miss those classic music stores Sam Goody and Tower also.
Very first joint I heard on Yo MTV Raps, from this iconic, very unique group in ‘89. Big shouts to Prince Paul, for production on this classic album. #RIPTRUGOY🎤👑🙏🏾
Yes, yes, yes... Reflecting on it, I think coming across this video on Yo! MTV Raps as a kid in 1989 is what started my love of hip-hop. Sure, I'd heard some Run-DMC and Beastie Boys, but finding out that you could sample yodeling and bagpipes, and that rap belonged in the suburbs just as much as it did in the city, opened my mind.
My first cds i ever owned feet high and rising, it takes a nation of millions P.E and the Doc no one can do it better , All hail the queen, kool g rap road to the riches ,no more mr nice guy, and Paul's boutique. My birthday gifts June 7 1989 i was 9 Rest Easy Moms and thanks for the best birthday gift . I was jamming the whole summer . From NC with love
I was 9 when this joint came out. Watching this takes me back to cookouts and family reunions. This was true and pure hip hop. Thank you De La Soul for what you built for our community.
Love it. De La Soul was one of my favorites and still is. Sad that they were not streamed for so many years because of copyright bs but I have always had my tapes. I like old cars so I always had a tape player. Thank god for the 80 series Land Cruiser because it allowed me to keep in touch with De La Soul over the years.
yes brothers it's happening! Dave is up there smiling. Thanks for the opportunity to chill with you guys in the vip room at one of your gigs back in 2016 not only that i got to get blazed with P.A. Pasemaster Mase and that was an experience i will never forget! DE LA FOREVER!
Big shout out to my Homie Dwayne Lacen for always bringing back those WBLS tapes from NYC, back to Augusta Ga. This is where I 1st heard potholes, and subsequently was introduced to DeLaSoul.
This is one of my favorite songs EVER. Just to hear the intro takes me back in time. Lol… It puts a smile on my face to realize my childhood was DOPE AS FUCK! RIP TRUGOY. May all of your pot holes be filled my brother. Peace to the Native Tongue’s.
I believe these guys are the first I have ever heard do double and triple voice overlap on a rap song. I was 13 when this video aired on Video Music Box. De La Soul are true pioneers.
This album...I was 12/13 and just felt different and this was the catalyst that helped me see the beauty of being different and to embrace it. Damn, De La... thank you.
A lot of talent in Amityville back then! Thanks to the Pioneers! Cold Crush 4,Kool Herc,Grand Master Flash among others that came through Amityville Long island & planted the seeds that spawned these brothers! I knew them all before the fame! R.I.P. Dave. 32 South Route 110 Amityville forever…
Brothers, thank you so much for grinding, in spite of all on top of you. I thank God you were still able to tour re: brand... There were many that didn't have that, some even changing their names... Imagine, not owning your own name... There has to be another song for that, now that you're on the other side.
11 MONTHS AGO. LOL I was listening to this on a mix-tape 30 almost 35 years ago and have been a fan sense 1988 or maybe 1990. Hell it all mixes together when your that young.
Possibly the first alternative hiphop track and video ? Most classic rap songs from that era have cheap videos (seen today) but this one still looks fresh and cool (DIY style). Love the beat. It's not trying to be a banger, just being themselves. De La Soul From The Soul.
My all-time favorite hip Hop song ever because of the memories when I was 13 working my first ever job n watching this on Yo! MTV raps... East camden for life.
These brothers are the epitome of going against the grain and living in their truth. They have never compromised their standards from the gate. Rhyme technicians par excellence. Such an integral part of my undying love for Hip Hop. I take my hat off to these Fellaz. Rest in power Dave🕊️❤

I agree 💯 percent.
easily this as poetry over like all the georgian dudes who everyone has to study
This whole album blew us away the first time we heard it back in the day. It was so different from Kane, Rakim, BDP etc. We dug it though. 1988 ☮️ ✌🏽
Yeah not everyone bit off each other back in the days
Golden era
Yup! I was 19.
Great to have this back and at its right place to the right owners!!! RIP Dave 🕊️
:(💔🙏🙏🙏🙏❤❤❤❤❤
DEFINITELY MISSED THEY ARE SO SLEPT ON AS TO WHAT THEY REALLY DID FOR RAP/HIP-HOP A GOAT GROUP FOR MANY REASONS
Does that mean that they got their masters returned after the 30yr period? Is that why all the videos are now coming to YT now?
Even if you weren't feelin the lyrics, you couldn't sleep on the production... you can't help, but to Bob your head to it!
Happy 34th anniversary to De LA Soul's debut album 3 Feet High and Rising
They've been on repeat all day!
This Song 💯 moved Hip Hop toward Native Tongues & Conscious Rap more than most. Expanded all Music Genres. So much gratitude to The Daisy Age
No. Jungle Brothers were out first

De La Soul Forever
I was 9 when this joint came out. Watching this takes me back to cookouts and family reunions. This was true and pure hip hop. Thank you De La Soul for what you built for our community.
Right!! Bring back so many good memories!!
One of my favourite songs of all time
Singing about lawn, potholes, being a taxpayer, mixed with yodeling ( Parliament's “Little Ole Country Boy”), all so authentic.
They had a authentic approach even with samples
the song is really about mc's biting rhymes,.. listen carefully
I love the fact on this song they sample 3 different "War" sound piece in this joint....! I love this, "Say No Go" & "Daisy Age".
🎩⚔️🗡️🎩🗡️⚔️🎩
This song is better now than when it came out.
The De La Soul and Tribe Called Quest videos always looked like so much to film.
Awwwwww RIP Trugoy and thanks for all the epic rhymes

So glad y’all blessed us with these videos again. I noticed they were gone for awhile.
They always promoted positive and fun music while still keeping it HIP-HOP.
Love it. De La Soul was one of my favorites and still is. Sad that they were not streamed for so many years because of copyright bs but I have always had my tapes.
