Meh, they did the same thing for Tom Hooper's last musical movie, Les Miserables. They made a big deal about how they were singing live on set and nobody had ever done that before, and how it supposedly added so much to the show. But of course, as it turns out, all that hype was for nothing. Singing live actually made it worse, not better.
In all fairness, if they had cast actual singers in the role I think the movie would've ended up better. The biggest issue with Les Miserables was that so many of the actors werent singers. I agree this is probably a moment of overhyping, but I find the technology far more intriguing than the live-singing

HOLY FURBALLS! For someone who has been obsessed with the musical throughout my years & has become a dancer because of it I am SO excited. The cast is stunning & I cannot wait to see Francesca & Idris smash it out of the park!!
The sets, the dancer, the cast is so perfect, and then the trailer show us a bittersweet CGI unfinished costumes … WHY?! Simply WHY?! Like if Cats the Musical hasn’t gorgeous and eccentric costumes by itself, they decide to throw an experiment in CGI costumes that looks bad I hope in the movie they fix it.
This gave me literal chills. Cats the Musical was such a big part of my childhood and I love it to pieces. It inspired me so much when I was in ballet and to see these amazing stars making a huge deal out of it and turning it into an amazing movie is honestly so awesome.
I predict this will be a big hit. Some people are looking for "bad CGI" and not even noticing all the beautiful things about this movie ~ the dancing/choreography, singing, set design and the actual performances of the cast.
So... *Did you decide on ACTUALLY watching the movie after the trailer?* No offense but just because they threw some celebrities in there won't mean is good, also, I heard the plot makes no sense.
I am extremely excited for this, just looking at the sets, the talent, the little bits and pieces of dancing we have seen, and the fact that Blankenbuehler is choreographing this excites me. But, I encourage everyone to be cautious with this excitement, because as we know, movies go overboard on autotune a LOT. This is a classic musical. I hope they don't ruin it.
So why are people hating this time? This is based on a play. Its not llike Sonic, its not straying from any "nerd culture" or have any touchy social messages that we're added. And this is how the people look on stage in the musical. It's like people like to hate just to hate.
Finally saw this for the first time and I can say I liked it, the songs were performed very well and they had some amazing talent. I get where it's not for everyone, but those who love musical theatre should at least give it a chance.
