That's a real pretty area of the country to ride in HDR. I'll give y'all some of my opinions now that I've owned mine for a month and put almost 1700 miles on it. Yes, I RIDE! Lol! First, the weight isn't bad and I don't think the electric reverse motor is missed here, but you do need to be aware when you're parking so you don't get yourself into a pickle. Second, I had the Medium windshield installed on mine before ever even riding it because I wear a half-helmet. Even at highway speed (75+) I get some helmet buffeting right at the top of my head. I did buy a new HJC half-helmet that actually covers my ears and has a drop-down visor, which I used in a rain shower the other afternoon. I almost wish they made a Large/Taller windshield now. I'm only 5'-8" but I look over the Medium by about 3". On my V-Star I look through it about 3" below the top and I get no buffeting or bugs! The left leg/rear jug does get very hot, but it's only really noticeable when stopped for long lights - this bike is made for long, non-stop highway cruising - which is what I mostly do. I've got nothing against a HD except the price, but that includes the price of service for me. I don't have a garage or carport, so I'm limited on what I can do on my own. Usually just oil/filter and front brakes. Everything else goes to the dealership for service and compared to the HD service costs, Yamaha is much cheaper from what I've been told by HD friends. Resale? How much do you think you'd get for a 2012 HD with an '88' and almost 66,000 miles on it? That's what my 2012 V-Star 1300 Tourer has.
Josh Calbert it’s not the garage queens it’s mass production started in 2003 and now with “sale priced” 2017+ models the used bike market is saturated. I have a 17 Heritage and love it. But for the resale I’m likely keeping it till it falls apart.
Thing is ... who buys a bike , and is thinking about selling it? The whole HD and metric resale argument is an excuse. If you want a HD or Indian or Yamaha or Kawasaki , then buy it cause you love it. Not because your gonna want to sell it in 1 or 2 years. Lol
@@HarleyDayRider thanks. Was considering getting one, but with probably lack of parts and availability of anything else for it. Also what about the ones still in circulation? They will probably have the same issues. Dont know. Just thinking aloud.
I have yet to get to ride this bike, but will give it a spin. I’m wondering how it stacks up for the guy that doesn’t want reverse, has his own optional tour pack n such. The one gripe I have, and I wish they implemented this, is no power windshield. Man the new goldwing comes with it on their tourpackless model. They dropped the ball their, cause just like I noticed on the street glide, short shields on these kinds of bikes are useless.. Just a stupid style cue to sell the bikes.
I agree with the windshield on long trips is a must have. I put my 12" on the bike when we hot the road for a long haul. But you could change that out I am sure. Ride Safe
Yeah, I was just going to say. These things log 100,000 miles+ and are still good running at that point and nowhere near worn out. Plus I have yet to hear anything about any "engine problems". If anything it's likely the list price and lack of features the competition has, ie. Park assist (reverse) and no power windscreen. From what I have seen, heard and read these things are rock solid mechanically with the valve clearances never falling out of spec over the first 50,000 miles. When you think about it, to experience the type of reliability over 100,000+ miles. What is that worth? To ride from coast to coast without incident. Just enjoying the trip without any issues? That to me is invaluable. Especially On the Star Venture or this. Both air cooled bikes, which is what I want. To have that is asking a lot. A lot toward building a contingent of loyal owners. I just suspect that at the price point sales are probably not strong enough for Yamaha but, and of course there is no magic bullet but I have seen videos that are really testimonials to the trouble free riding these provide. If you like, or can at least get past the styling and the heat of the rear jug you have the kind of experience people like Paul (I think it is) the guy riding in support of an MS cure then $24,000 starts looking pretty good. Oh, plus Paul claims he went the whole 100,000 miles on his Venture without ever needing to change the drive belt. Just a short in the heated seat wiring and brake pads, and he claims not many at that. Yes, $24,000 isn't pocket change but if Joe average logs that kind of reliability over 100,000 miles and the bike is still ready and willing for more and pieces are not falling off? That's worth a lot, and no, I would not be guessing what it will be worth at that point. I like Harley Davidson but more as a brand than any excitement over their current line up. To me a Harley would be something I would NOT be buying new. I look at H.D. more as a company providing the raw material for me to create a custom ride and I wouldn't buy anything so new that there were unanswered questions concerning engine issues. Geez, I guess my friend is right. He thinks a pallet with an S&S engine strapped to it, a custom aftermarket frame and probably a Springer front end, plus a thousand little parts is what I should do. Of course, I am not that hip on the styling of the Yamahas but Damn! That reliability! Hmmm, maybe a written off Venture or one of these that's been wrecked could supply the basis of my custom dream bike.

I really enjoyed the ride. Ride Safe
1300cc? How about nearly 1900....113 cubic inches. I love the styling....the styling was modeled after the vintage 70's Baracuda.
Sorry about that it is what the sales guy was telling us before the ride? It is an amazing bike. Ride Safe
Over priced

Thanks for stopping by I hope you stick around for more videos. Ride Safe
Harley resale value tanked a few years ago. To many used low mileage garage queens out there

I agree
Tanked is s strong word. It’s still much better than the imports as well as the Indians.

The Harley twin cam engine has all but ruined the brand from wicked repair bills and outright poor reliability on low mileage engines.
I bought the Eluder GT in 2018. Solid engine, but the cheap plastics don’t hold up well. Especially the plastic right about the infotainment center.
Thanks for that knowledge. Good looking bike overall though. Ride Safe
@@HarleyDayRider yeah other than that, I love the bike. Just did a trip from central Texas to Jacksonville, FL.
I like it, but I already HAVE a Heritage Softail. Sound system is trick though.
I enjoy a good sound system on a bike. It makes the miles pass by a lot easier when on long trips. Ride Safe
Do you know if Yamaha quit making the Star Eluder after 2018? I Google it only to see the 2018 Eluder
I think someone told me they did stop making that bike. They were having issues with something and just killed it. Ride Safe

Is it worth the price?

after the engine problems and Yamaha stopped production. No way...
Long Haul Paul just logged 100K in one year in his Yamaha Venture and he had no issues.

The rear end is uglier than sin imo and it falls into that futuristic look that victory had but thanks for the video.... ride hard or stay home😎
I think the back end looks like a Street Glide? It is a good running bike. And I agree with the ride when you can. Ride Safe
Sounds like a weed wacker!
Yes, I think you would need to add pipes to this bike. Ride Safe
Check out srk cycles video about the raider sound vs a Harley.
