If you could perfectly guess the start instead of reacting to the pistol you would be able to set a new world record with that advantage. He's thinking about the next level of the meta game when all sprinters just guess and blast off the starting block 😂
I believe in the Olympics someone got a false start running after the pistol shot, he started running before it’s physically possible for a human to react after analyzing the video. I assume they’d probably do the same analysis at most high level championships.

I honestly don't know why false starts disqualify someone. Their anticipation is high, & they make a mistake. Is it because maybe someone could've had the race of their life and the false start stopped that from happening? The race has to start over, so I'm curious as to why they don't get to just try again with everybody else. (Now I got to the end of typing this comment and realized I'm just going to Google the answer, lol.) But still, sharing your thoughts and opinions are welcome. I enjoy conversation 😂
Yeah, it's odd. In motorsport it's usually a time penalty. With the technology they seem to have they could deduct the exact of amount of time he gained.
@luckylanno That's so true! I looked some stuff up on Google like I said I would, lol, and found out that runners used to do that purposefully to play mind games on the other athletes. So then they made a rule that if one player false starts (even if an accident), the whole track will receive a warning. If another does it (even if on accident), that 2nd athlete will get disqualified. Eventually, after years, they settled on automatic disqualification after the first one. Which I still think is dumb. They even call it a false start if you leave out the blocks faster than they think you should be able to, based on old studies that humans can't react quicker than 0.1 seconds. So anything faster than that, they consider you "anticipated" the gun & therefore will be disqualified. It's a mess.
Because they used to give warnings with each runner given two warnings and then people abused it trying to time the starter gun for a headstart. There used to be multiple false starts every race, even going into double digits. Then they went to one warning and the next person to do it was disqualified which of course was asinine as the second person got harshly punished. This led to some veterans using it as a mental tactic against inexperienced runners to psyche them out. So now it's you do it and you get DQ'd. False starts dropped dramatically. If they have to keep resetting the race other events get pushed back too. It wasted everyone's time and money. It's better this way to get the race done in a timely manner.
@Sirin2099 Thank you so much!! I ended up doing some research but didn't find out that each runner used to get two warnings a piece. That's actually surprising. I'd expect to just get one for each and then penalize the individual who did it a 2nd time. Going into the double digits is crazy. And like you said, I can't imagine how pushed back the other events would have gotten. Wow. Thanks for taking the time to explain! 🤗

They do use blanks. The title is a misleading joke. When there is a false start the pistol shoots twice so all the runners know. Kerley heard the second shot and his reaction caused him to fall. The poster is joking that it is as if the starter got mad and shot him into he calf.
