The Abigail Way - 1 Samuel 25
1. Which of these three Human Rules do you live by the most?
*(The Golden Rule -- Treat others the same way you want them to treat you.
* The Retribution Rule -- Treat others the same horrible way they treated you.
* The Lead Rule -- Treat someone the way somebody else treated you (like your boss) because you could not respond in kind to the initial offense.
2. In the story of Abigail, she responds to David with gifts and kindness while his heart is set on exacting revenge. Describe a time in your life when someone intervened to talk you out of doing something you might have regretted later.
Describe a time when God talked you out of doing something you might regret?
3. Abigail reminded David of his calling from his past and spoke of his vision for his future. David totally got it and changed course. How does calling and vision inspire you to act or not act?
4. The three rules we started with in question 1 can "mature" into one of the next three activities:
* Returning evil for good, like Nabal did in rejecting with contempt David's request for a favor.
* Returning evil for evil, like David desired to do by punishing Nabal for his disrespect.
*. Returning good for evil, as Abigail did in apologizing and making amends with gifts.
Which one are you "maturing" in?
5. Why would you want to get EVEN with someone you don't EVEN like?
6. What would it look like for you to return good or a blessing for evil? What would happen if all of society responded in that way?
