  • Tokyo is famous for their high rent prices, especially in the relatively cheap Japanese housing market. So in this video, I asked people on the streets of Tokyo, “how much do you pay for rent” and saw if we could get an apartment tour!!

      I don't get how she's living like that while making only 84k a year. That's nothing. And she's considered rich?
      And of that, 3000 goes into her rent. So only 4k left over? And seems like she spends a lot as well.
      Maybe she meant 7000k a week? which would be close to 340k a year which makes more sense but then, why even live in an apartment? Buy a house at that point.
      Something here ain't adding up.

      @@GameFuMaster good question, from the peoples I met in Tokyo
      many career women there seem spend everything on a luxurious lifestyle and are left with nothing much savings wise. It's ok as long as your work is stable and you are young, but it might be risky long term.

    • @GameFuMaster
      @GameFuMaster Год назад +29

      @@antoninb.6735 100% risky in the long term. You don't want to be stuck working a job that earns a lot of money but is highly stressful.

    • @antoninb.6735
      @antoninb.6735 Год назад +26

      @@GameFuMaster To be clear to readers, I'm not attacking this woman. She seems very nice.
      But given the current times, I think it's wiser to save and invest your money in a way to make it work for you and your health, rather than spending everything in exquisite but needlessly expensive stuff.
      As you said, her car is probably credit (it seems like a Porsche), as probably much of her furnitures.
      From my point of view and experience, a better alternative would be to live as cheap and healthy as possible not too far from your workplace, and put the rest of the money where it can buy you a more peaceful life later.
      Because even if the salary is high, the cost of living is too. So you are not buying time for yourself with that lifestyle. And as you age, time and peace are more valuable than expensive stuff imo.

    It's interesting comparing Philip (Software Engineer) vs Leah (IT). Both have fantastic homes and good wages. But both are dumping around 50% of their income into rent ($3500-5000 per month), leaving very little in savings. I'm more interested in the lifestyles of the people who were paying less than $1000/month but also working in comparable jobs. Their buying power must be much higher, despite not being as flashy as Philip or Leah.

    Dangerous city or not, showing a YTuber where you live and inviting them into your home is a bit unnatural imo. I wouldn't be surprised if this were staged but either way this was an interesting spin off of Cribs I must say.

    • @sunshine6352
      @sunshine6352 Год назад +3

      Not staged, a lot of Japanese shows and youtubers were doing it even 10-15 years ago. Japan is generally safe and people have good manners for the most part so it's not surprising that they can invite someone they just met on the street.

    • @HeWhoProclaims
      @HeWhoProclaims Год назад +1

      @@sunshine6352 That doesn't convince me that's it's not staged nor do I believe anywhere can be safe enough to invite strangers into your home. If this weren't staged then I'm sure it actually can be safe.. Until that one time it isn't. I'm not staging any facts here just my opinion, whether people think it's safe to do this or not, I still find it unnatural and unsafe.

      @@HeWhoProclaims well whether you believe it or not doesn't really matter. Japan itself is a safe country overall and that speaks for itself. Your opinion is biased but understandable especially with all the negative news and stuffs happening around the world, or if you are from a dangerous country. Japan is different and that's just how they are with their respect culture. I've been living here in Japan for quite some time and I know that this is not scripted, especially based on their conversation you'll just know it if you speak japanese. Also, not all of the people who got interviewed agreed to the guy's request to come at their place. I know it might be weird for some people watching this video but that's just how they are. Watch a lot of Japanese variety shows and you'll see that this thing is pretty normal to them.

      @@sunshine6352 I promise kiddo. I don't even pay attention to news and bias thoughts. You're just not experienced enough to realize intelligent criminals exist in safe places. Even if they didn't. It's a fact you've increased your odds of being robbed. It's foolish to believe otherwise. I understand the facts about the area, it's even okay to walk about late at night. This does not mean, it's okay to invite strangers into your house, no matter how privileged or confident you might feel. Look up the hidden statistics of abductions in Japan and maybe you'll stop and think past, "Oh it's a good city so don't worry about it..". There so many things that are amiss in Japan, they cover up their criminal activity statistics to make the people feel safer and happier. Though it might not be as open, criminal activity occurs very much behind the curtains. It's not safe or smart inviting a stranger into your home, anywhere. No matter how gullible you may be to the situation of criminal activity in that area.

It seems to me that you're purposely talking about all this things about not being safe when the topic here is you're biased about saying the video is scripted. Clearly you don't know anything about Japan for you to say this is scripted. Now enjoy using your ad hominem kiddo and do your thing and protect yourself for all you want. Tokyo has a very wide range of prices depending on the location and quality/fanciness of the apartment.
    On the low end for a single person, finding a ~60 000 yen apartment (1K/1DK, 25m2) of "good enough" quality, nothing fancy, is fairly easy. And I'm talking in the 23 wards. Of course inside the 23 wards, some will be harder than others. Minato-ku for example will be a challenge, while Adachi-ku or Itabashi-ku are stupid easy and filled with cheap apartments. Other cheap wards include Edogawa-ku, Katsushika-ku, Arakawa-ku etc.
    For 2 people (2DK), a 100 000 yen/month will serve you OK. Again, nothing fancy.
    Now if you go fancy and go for the tower mansions etc. Then that's where it goes up a TON and sky's the limit. The foreign guy is overpaying (in my view). He could halves his rent and have a good place of the same size. It's just that "tower mansion" buildings that new are ridiculously expensive. He probably has US rent prices in mind though.

      I agree with everything you said. I live in Tokyo and pay 100,000 yen a month for an 80 square meter 3LDK. It's not close to a trendy station, but only 15 minutes train to Ikebukuro or 25 to Shinjuku, which are both hugely popular areas. I used to live centrally, in a trendy area, and in a new apartment building and paid the same price for a tiny 1K. It all depends on location and the type of building you live in.

    Tokyo is not expensive compared to other major international cities. You can find a small studio for 500 USD or pay 5000 USD and live in an upscale area. Depends on your needs. I've paid around 750 USD for a 1 bedroom apartment in Shinjuku. Now I pay the same amount in Mexico City ! And that is considered low here in the middle class neighborhoods. Many people 1000 and up here. I would say as someone having lived in major cities including Tokyo and Mexico City that the cost of living is similar to certain extend. In Japan my groceries were a lot cheaper than here in Mexico. I probably ate less in Japan and more healthier. But the supermarkets are great in Japan because they offer discount after 7 pm, as well as the convenience stores.
