jReactor I know you caught flak for another reason as well, but when I saw some downvotes on Catch Me, the first I thought was that the lyric vid didn’t include their dance. Glad you’re covering them tho, they’re a trip. This guy did lyrics for every song, great explanations that in my opinion won’t ruin the vids du-metal.blogspot.com/2015/12/karate.html?m=1
You gotta see a live performance before you get it. I dismissed it at first and then much later on I watched one of their concert videos and that is what hooked me. It's legit. Can't call it a gimmick after all these years. They created something new, and somehow it works. Gotta give them props. They work hard and do their own thing.
The live peformance of "Rondo of nightmare" with the "Mischief of God" intro is a great song and really showcase both the talent of the musicians and the vocal range of the lead singer. :)
Every single song by Babymetal is epic. Everyone. Not even kidding. And they are better live than studio. They performed two back to back shows at the tokyo dome once with 55k people each show. Each concert had completely different songs performed and no one complained. That is staying power.
I enjoyed the reaction. BabyMetal has proclaimed their genre as Kawaii Metal. However, is it really fair to just call them a novelty after almost 8 years being active, several tours, two albums, and several live concert videos? I can see the novelty thing applying to them very early, but they've covered a lot of distance since then. The other two (Yui and Moa) can, indeed, sing. They have their own songs they perform as a duet without Su. They are known as Black BabyMetal. For your lyrical needs for all things BabyMetal: du-metal.blogspot.com/2015/12/karate.html Enjoy! :)
That novelty you talking about start touring in 2013, played on a biggest rockfests in Japan, UK and US, have two studio albums, several live albums, they sold out Wembley arena and Tokyo Dome twice. And won many international metal awards, incliding best live band. That being said check out they live performances in future :)
Like others have mentioned as well, they're definitely not a novelty act (anymore) or "just a gimmick". The music is rock-solid, the band is outrageously good, the girls are amazing... If you're open to it and can get the notion of "novelty/gimmick" out of your head, they'll rock you and charm you until, one day, you find yourself throwing up a Kitsune (The Fox Sign), guaranteed! ;-)
Cmon man! You don’t have to understand 1 word of Japanese to follow that story line! It’s about moving forward and never staying down if you get hammered . They were fighting against and overcoming themselves,
Yeah, if you doubt their skill just check out a live performance. Their songs actually kick ass. Karate is one of the more pop(ish)-ones. The band kills it every single time and these girls can actually sing, while their stage performance is of the chain. Check this out: ruclips.net/video/Ro-_cbfdrYE/видео.html it's them at the Sonisphere festival in the UK, performing in front of >60k people, most of whom had never heard of them at that time. The crowd was deeply in doubt, but the band won them over during their set. This is their last song of this gig. Just watch the reactions of the audience at this point. The song is called "Ijime, Dame, Zettai" which roughly translates into "No more bullying forever". So they got some serious lyrics ;)
Try to hold off if you will, but by the fourth song you'll be hooked. Kami band is world class, yui and moa could hype up any crowd, and su's vocals are powerful enough to break all language barriers. I would recommend watching live performances before checking the lyric videos. Can't wait for more.
A novelty? 8 years multiple world tours with another on the way. They have been pretty established for some time now. Nearly all of their songs have strong messaging. They are Japanese started at age 13 and 11. Currently 20 and 18. In the Karate MV they are 18 and 16. Their live shows are epic... Lead Singer: Suzuka Nakamoto goes by Su-Metal current age 20. Choirs/Dancers: Yui Mizuno and Moa Kikuchi they go by Yui-Metal and Moa-Metal respectfully current age 18. Backing band is known as the Kami Band. As for reaction... Do live shows, Road of Resistance, IDZ, however most you will have to swtch to mute and sync method (Japan has some pretty insane copyright laws.) For black metal see Sis. Anger, Folk metal see Meta Taro, More rock Syncopation. For Ska Punk Yava!. For Rap mixed in with your metal you have Iine ( pronounced Ee nay) and GJ!. For something heavy see Babymetal Death (Many people select Sumetals birthday show which can be very confusing to new commers.) For more "Kawaii" metal Doki Doki Morning, Catch me if you Can, Uki uki Midnight. To show Suzuka Nakamoto's epic vocal range Rondo of Nightmares, with Kami Solo, No Rain No Rainbows, Akatsuki and Amore. Just over all stage awesomeness, Headbangya, and Tales of Destinies/ The One
Nice reaction! Subbed up! Try Road of Resistance live (I prefer this one over the others but whichever) ruclips.net/video/zTEYUFgLveY/видео.html as their live shows are where it's at. Also, if you are going to react to several BM tunes, then you will need to put the video link in the description and mute the music videos playback audio to avoid copyright strikes. Do a countdown and we will sync to you. We're used to this so it's no problem and saves you a lot of hassle. First: LOL! The look on your face when they started singing! That's ok, everybody gets that look the first time. they are Japanese starting in 2010 they were around 11-12yo. This was made when they were 15-16ish. The lyrics are on Du-metals blogspot. The names they go by are Su-metal (vocals), Yui-metal (kicker of baseball bats and dance), and Moa-metal (the fly-catcher with the Dimples of Death). Yes, they have an "anime-ish" tale behind Babymetal, so keep that in mind as you do reactions or just just enjoy their music. Understand that the Japanese perceptions of "metal" are a little different as regards BM. And yes, everyone, fans included, seem to adopt names with "metal" tag on it, as you can tell. Come and join us down the fox hole and see how far you go!! (red pill...blue pill...) ROFL!
Great idea! I never thought of that haha. Posting the link and having people sync it up. Thanks for the background info too...It's so weird compared to anything else I've seen in the metal genre! I will watch more stuff though :D
As others have suggested, you need to see a live performance. Here are two links for you. They do not have lyric translations though. BabyMetal Death does nor require a translation as it is the girls introducing them selves and spelling out the name BabyMetal. This link is to the a special version of the song. It is normally played as the opening song to their shows but in this case, it was the closing song. Su, the lead singer was also singing in another band but she left this band to be full time in BabyMetal so the crucifixion on stage, is her being re- born as Su Metal and it was her sixteenth birthday. ruclips.net/video/jRc9dbgiBPI/видео.html Ijime Dame Zettai, means bulling no more forever. This is the live version at the Sonisphere Rock Festival in the UK. This was BavbyMetals first rock festival outside the Orient. Most people did not know who they were and they were switched to the main stage at the last minute. ruclips.net/video/Ro-_cbfdrYE/видео.html
They are Japanese. They are a Japanese Idol band. Their music is what they consider to be kawaii metal. Lead singers name is Suzuka Nakamoto or SU-METAL, age 20. Then you have Yui Mizuno, YUI-METAL, age 18, right glove. Then Moa Kikuchi, MOA-METAL, age 18, left glove. All three ladies are graduates from the IDOL group Sakura Gukuin. It's kinda like AKB48 IDOL group except when you turn 16 you must leave the group. Babymetal is associated with AMUSE inc. and UNIVERSAL music. They started in the band at the ages of 11, 13, and 11 while in Sakura Gukuin. Their most viewed video on RUclips has over 85 million views. It's called GIMMIE CHOCOLATE. If you want lots of views and subs to your channel, keep reacting to everything Babymetal. You have many, many many videos to choose from. Some better than others, but all worth the watch. Next reaction I suggest ROAD OF RESISTANCE LIVE IN JAPAN. IF you need a subtitled video, i suggest HEADBANGEERR (LEGEND 1997 APOCALYPSE) Live with Eng. Subs. Enjoy your journey down the rabbit hole and welcome to THE ONE!
Hey! Welcome back! Hope everything is good with you. You should check them out live. Try Road Of Resistance live. Su the main singer is great live and their backing nand is amazing. I don't know if they have any lyric videos out there. This song is about fighting to become a better person and never giving up even when life knocks you down. Something I think you can relate to recently. ruclips.net/video/zTEYUFgLveY/видео.html
They got the chops and she has a great voice, but they are a bit too cheesy for me. Check out Uneven Structure - Frost/Hail. Awesome band from France. Highly underrated, would love to hear what you think!
This video is getting a lot more positive response than the other BM video 😀.

Well, when you cast aspersions on their fans and then the entire Japanese culture you're going to get negatives, and deservedly so.
Most innovative performance group in the world today. No song the same. Pure energy, pure joy!

"Very heavy, but it's pretty melodic" you nailed it. 🧐😏

As you will find out, they are an amazing live band. Live is where they truly shine.

This song is basically about fighting your inner demons.
Like others have mentioned as well, they're definitely not a novelty act (anymore) or "just a gimmick". The music is rock-solid, the band is outrageously good, the girls are amazing... They are considered Kawaii Metal, but they dabble in a lot of different subgenres of metal.
As others have suggested, you need to see a live performance. Here are two links for you. They do not have lyric translations though.
