I've been playing Euphonium since grade school. I am 39 now, and a member of a Community Band. I have to agree. On more difficult pieces, the Euph. parts are awesome (and sometimes difficult). For transcription from orchestra pieces, NOT arrangements, the Euph part is a combination of Cello, F. horn, trombone. In the Raider's March we have, the middle theme (Marion's Theme) is in the Euph Part. The first half is doubled on F. Horn (the original orchestra has the horns playing the theme), but then they cut out half way through, and the Alto and Tenor Saxes take over. The Euph part has the whole theme, which goes up to a high B natural. Then, the first Euph part has the Harp part when the rest of the band comes in.
Marches, especially Sousa, Euph almost always has melody......fun, but tires you out a bit because of no breaks. :)

@@Matonizz Omg, You responded to my comment?! Wow! Dude you are such an inspiration for me, I continue to try and get better at euphonium because of mainly your videos. I wish I could sound like you, You are amazing. (I know you hear that a ton but you truly are)

@Matonizz Also, You have a Nasir Ali Euphonium... Was it any good? I heard you play it but you could make a lava lamp sound good if you tried, so was it good? I am wondering because my only school rented euphonium is dented all on the side and it sounds not very good, and I don't have a lot of money, (like I only have $300 set aside) so I was wondering if that is a good option for a cheap euphonium. I have been playing for under a year btw.

@@GregArmWrestling No, it was actually quite horrible to be fair :D Might have been the worst euph I've tried ever. Somehow in my head I thought that it was quite obvious in my video but it seems like a lot of people though that it actually sounded good. That being said, definitely don't get it if you're thinking about it :D

I have a question: I play a Besson Sovereign made in the seventies. I like it very much, but when swapping with a mate (for the lols), i found that my valves feel somewhat sluggish. They are smooth, not really hard to press or anything, but they seem dampened a bit. On the return too. No, its not so much that it hinders me, far from it, but others feel, well, snappier, for the lack of a better description.
I am running some slightly higher viscosity oil because of wear, that might even be it. What else could cause this/how could it be fixed?

    • @Matonizz

Bessons always have very smooth motion which is a bit more resistant than a euphoniums like yamaha, at least from my experience owning multiple bessons myself as well as testing multiple horns from them. Three things that you could do to improve speed: 1 change your valve guides (unless your valve guides are attached as a singular part to your valves which is entirely possible since you mentioned it's an older Besson. Otherwise it's probably a plastic valve guide which wears out rather quickly). 2. By better set of springs 3. Take it to your local workshops and ask some cleaning work done. Hope this helps my friend. Best,M

      Hey, thanks for the reply!
Yes, it has the valve guide as a soldered and then milled piece permanently attatched. That in combination with the serial number leads me to believe its one of the oldest runs in the first place. I will look into the springs, definitely!

in german egerländer music this is only true if you can read G clef written in Bb. Otherwise you'd get the (equally important but not as enjoyable) base doubling line. That was when i decided to train G clef in Bb.
