When your driving the tank, you never fire too close to where you are because that will cause massive damage and will sometimes, on rare occasions, kill you instantly. Also, try to avoid running over cars because that will also damage your tank pretty good. Try to stay on flat surfaces, like a highway or the airport. Try to stay away from most of the explosions and take out the helicopters when ever you can, but don't focus completely on them because you'll crash into objects and cops. Just keep your cool and never stop for anything. If you follow these tips, you'll last a whole lot longer and might even escape. Good luck guys.

you can loose your wanted level by following the closest train tracks to the closest tunnel, the police ground units dont follow you in there and obviously the helicopters loose sight just watch out for a train and try to find a tunnel with 2 sets of tracks so you can switch lanes if you need to avoid a train. to prevent your tank from being destroyed, avoid running over cars and blowing up cars next to you this will degrade your armor significantly.
Obviously except for the los santos train tunnel, the one in rancho, when you were about to lose them, they could just go inside that tunnel

Use Trevors ability
I know a much easier way. The mini water plant right next to the entrance of the base, go kill a worker or two there. When you do you will get two stars. Then run to the top of the hill and wAIT. The military will act like police and patrol the area, you'll have to wait awhile but ALL the tanks will start ro come out the base. But by the time they get there your stars should dissapear, (unless you are caught) and by this point since the tanks are outside the base the soilders should get out. And when they do, you just take it.
Use this cheat if you already haven't got it. Do what you did then take the tank to cover then punch this cheat in four or more times. Rb,rb,b,rt,left,right,left,right,left,right. The cops will go away. And if u want you can take it to your warehouse or house. Then save the game and the tank will load up back at your house when you play the game agian

+lhammbone True. One other way I found is that you can replay rampages in real time by revisiting the respective areas once you've completed all five. Got to rampage #4 at the mouth of the fort zancudo bridge. When you successfully re-complete it (or at least survive it), there's a good chance an operable tank is still being driven. You might get a wanted level for attempting to 'appropriate' it. The only reason I fucked this up was because I didn't know where the driver hatch was. However, similarly to your method where you wait it out near the base you are essentially starting from no wanted level making it much easier to do. Thank you for letting me know your method, though, now I'll have to try it. Also, you can park any vehicle in your garage while you have a wanted level provided that you already have a space for it. Good luck getting away, I usually go for the river and into the subway sewer LC style on 4-5 star wanted levels, sometimes 3.

Omega Death Gamer It drives similar to a vehicle with a trigger as acceleration, left joystick for direction. The difference is the right joystick controls both the upper part of the tank (aiming the canon) and the camera view. You should get the prompt for which button fires depending on the control scheme you're using in your settings.
Careful you don't go too deep into Zancudo river with it.
Be aware that when you knock into "solid" objects (immovable) with the barrel of the cannon moving it around it will actually spin the lower body of the tank and possibly/likely damage it to some extent though not always.
Also the back upper side is where the vents are; be aware this is a weakness and cops can/will shoot the engine, disabling the tank to move and ultimately blow it up. You still have the cannon operable until then.
I got away at 4 stars by hiding in an alley LOL i keep it in my hangar as a trophy

I got it by climbing up on the water tanks just north of the fort and shooting my sniper rifle into the fort a couple times. This gets the soldiers on you. Then you get down on the ground and stay out of sight. They'll send the tank out after you on that little dirt road nearby. Just watch the tank but stay out of sight till your stars fade away. Once the stars are gone the tank and soldiers will no longer attack you so you can just stroll right up to the tank and jack it, you won't get the full amount of stars that you would for entering the base so it's easier to get away with it after that.

I dropped about 50k on my vehicle - bulletproof tires, 100% armor, and came flying into Fort Zancudo. It was then I realized that they actually made the tanks shoot.
I didn't last 10 seconds.
There is an easier way.
Go into the hills on the left side of the base. Pull out your sniper and scan the area for a tank. When you see one pop a round into it to get the tanks attention.
You should get 2 stars and easy to lose. You lose them by diving into nearby bush and stay hidden.
The tank should leave the base entirely to search for you.
Once the stars go away you should be able to stroll right up to the tank and take it without it putting up a fight.

I've tried that before (it's five minutes, by the way); the problem isn't even getting out alive so much as it is getting out with the tank in tact.
Tip: One of the best easily found vehicles for raiding fort zancudo is a semi truck, they can be found on the highway within a minute. On pc, press x to duck and you rarely get hit.

If you're trying to do it online, there is a ledge to the left of the rear entrance (the entrance farthest from downtown that you cross a long bridge to get to). Get a really fast car and drive over the lip of that ledge and it will launch you onto the street that enters into the base.
i bought 1 for 1.5 million in online, I've already spent 9.1 million on the tank, the adder, the coquette, the entity, the cheetah, the voltic, and a few other beautiful cars, i can't wait to see what else they come out with in DLC, i got a buzzard too
I used to be like you then I took an arrow of realization to the knee. You might aswell use a cheat to spawn a tank if the cheaters way is the way you want to go. Getting the tank is a challenge, don't spoil it by cheating
btw i stole the tank just by literaly parachuting on top of it, and drove it happily in the sunset.

If you drive straight to one of the character's houses you can get in your bed and when you wake up you lose the wanted level. And I think you can actually permanently save tanks in airplane hangars.
For anyone who feels the need to put "Tank Spammers" in their place, theres a few places on the map where its literally IMPOSSIBLE for tank shells or their explosions to harm you, let alone kill you. One of them is near Lesters hosiery factory (or whatever it is). I was fucking CRACKING up because some little punk was trying to kill just me with a tank over and over again, so I went to this place and just sat there for a while. I could see the guy struggling to find me because I had a good vantage point. He shot off about 50 shells to no avail. Then he got out of his tank and stood ontop of it. As soon as I noticed that, I stood up and smoked his ass with my Sniper-Rifle, down in one. Then he started bitching like some spoilt kid and I just couldn't stop creasing... Funny as fuck. Sadly I forgot to steal and destroy his tank, so he got straight back in it and fucked off somewhere else to spam another player.

Do not shoot near your tank. The problem is not the explosions, the problem is the power of your shot. That's how to evade
There's a train tunnel near the fort, you could probably use that to escape from the cops. Also, I think most of the damage you end up getting on that tank comes from cars that blow up near you. I would do it myself, but stupid rockstar games doesn't release on PC until fuck knows how long.
you can do it allso easyer ,
just take a car stay befor the army base just shoot on the bas with a normal gun .
you wil have 2 stars drive on the mountens and stay still under a bush or tree so the helicopters cant see you ,
the tank wil leave the army base for finding you ,
just stay stil the person wil come out of the tank for find you on the mountnes just run away so he dont see you and wait when you 2 stars are gone,
when they dont shearching you anymore just run to the tank

During the mission where you steal the cargobob, I died the first time by a tank. My second attempt the tank got stuck at the checkpoint and the driver got out and I got in it. So much fun. I then got in a jet to fly off, but then it said mission failed because I had to steal the cargobob D=. I didn't drive, I just walked in.
Seriously tough just to get the tank. Theoretical strategy (without cheating): get to open land, shoot down only air support to try to remain at 4 stars. The tank's off-roading power might be able to lose police vehicles in a hilly area.
The car "ownership" rules are totally fucked up and maybe even bugged now, I doubt the stolen tank appears in impound. but maybe.
And to think this was game was once new
alright heres an even easier way to get into the base, but only if you are willing to use cheats though. : Do the invincibility cheat for your guy then after that use the skyfall cheat. U'll be gliding in the sky still with the timer there, 5 minutes and counting down right? Anyways use your left analog stick and pull back so you can glide longer. just land in the base and get what you want and just use the wanted level down cheat if u like :) LIKE THIS UP PLEASE for others

Isn´t it possible to steal the tank like the way you did, use the "wanted level down-cheat", go ahead and save the tank in a garage that you bought somewhere on the map? And then it will be spawned in the garage like the other veichles you save there?

I'll try stealing a Tank and driving into the hills. Then you really only have to worry about Police Helicopters, which should be easy enough to destroy and keep from tracking you.

BG you should try to steal the heavy lifter chopper! i think that would make it A LOT easier. You can store it in trevor's hangar that's where i stored my jet and it respawns in the hangar after it gets destroyed.
We just have slightly different taste. I too, don't want my games to be uber realistic, but I want them to be realistic to an extent.
I think the only way you can get away with it is to drive straight to Trevor's house and make a mad dash to sleep in the bed and save the game. Then once you wake up the police forget about you lol.
get the tank you will have back 2 stars , drive to the beach down and stay still and lose again the 2 stars , and you have you tank put it in a big garage and you allways have your tank ,

I didn't know there were 2 entrances to Fort Zancudo. I always use the road called "Fort Zancudo Approach Road". I believe its the main way into the fort.
Go into your hanger, thats where it should be. I thought the same thing and forgot about it and 4 days later I went to get a plane out of Trevors hanger and their it was

If u save after out of the base and reload the cops aren't on u anymore, they go to search mode and gives u extra time and heals the tank too 💯

I find it's always easiest to drive up in the mountains to lose a wanted level. Did you try getting one of the heavy carry helicopters and attach to it?
Great video, i got it on my 2nd try with full body armor and the Elegy special car that came with my garage i bought that is pretty fast, the alarm got delayed, stole the tank I got as far as 0.84 miles away from the base blowing everything up I can see. How to evade the cops idk lol but it was fun to have that opportunity while it lasted.
Steal anything from Fort Zancudo easy. Start Trevor's "Strangers and Freaks" Cletus mission but do not shoot the satellite dishes. Instead head to the base and take anything you like as Trevor, no alarms, no shooting, no problems.

huh...I just styole a Lear jet, flew to max height and para-ninja jumped in right on top of the tank thats parked in the Service Area.
To escape the 5 Star, head North West to the train tunnel...you've got about 1:30 minutes between trains so BE AWARE as you enter that it WILL hit you
Couldn't drive it up the hill so easy but I got up enough to escape. I waited until I lost the wanted level and got the tank as it was stuck turning around.
You can't record HDMI from a PS3. You'll need to record using component.
I suggest a Hauppauge HD PVR. I own one and it's great. You only need 720p capturing for consoles anyway.
I've kind of wondered that too, but hey, the game is still a masterpiece.
Gonna b a lot easier to get to the vehicles in the base in online play as multiple people can rush the fort

For trying to get the fuck out, you can probably steal a fast car after getting the tank, leaving, hiding in a ditch, and come back for it, though i doubt that's possible cause gta likes despawning amazing vehicles.
Actually is kind of invincible... just shoot far and don't die by your own explosions, pistols, smg's and sniper rifles will never kill you.
with the tank u can kill mostly off the tanks and the guards in the fort and get that big war plane they hide in the hangar.

if you where actually smart, taxi would be your best ride, toggle mission in taxi while entering zancudo and you will be smoothe for a solid min. try it and thank me after..

The Rhino tank in GTA V is way too flimsy. The Rhino tank was in its prime in the 3D era in GTA III, GTA Vice City and GTA San Andreas. The Rhino tanks in those old GTA games can be shot until the cows come home and they still won’t blow up.

how to steal tank easy=
1. Go to fort zancudo and activate invincibility and axploded ammo
2. Charge using franklin's ability
3. Every 2 minute 3 tank spawn on that base
4. Kill 2 tanks, and steal last tank before next tank spawn
5. Exit fort zancudo and activate wanted level down

I just buy it, much easier, and if it gets destroyed or lost, it respawns at the hangar, unlike regular cars.

I stood on the hill, used the sniper to shoot the fuel canisters & a guard. Hid behind my car on the hill & waited until the stars disappeared. Got the tank, drove back to Trevors place then saved it. Turned it back on later in the day & the tank was gone. Now no tank is coming out of the base 😅🤨
Turn the cannon behind you and use it as a boost when you drive.

It's the same principal as DICE use with Battlefield; it being realistic doesn't necessarily mean that it's worth implementing. Authenticism is really important, but once you start to severely sacrifice entertaining gameplay for sharp realism, chances are you're not making a very entertaining gameplay experience (unless it's strictly a simulation game, like ArmA). Because frankly, I want the cops to mindlessly ram me. It's hilarious.
Could you get the tank, take it out of the base, run for your life in a faster getaway car, and come back to get the tank later?
Yes, and is simpler than that, go to the nearest long train tunnel, let the tank at the entrance and run in, then run until you get the train in the oposite direction of the police, or run deep into the tunnel and wait until the search is over, don´t shoot, just run until a train passes or you have no stars, after that go and pick your tank some cops would remain in the tunnel, but you don´t have any stars, so no problem. Whatever you do don´t do what the guy in the video does, don´t shoot the tank to close to it or smoke will came from it and you will be done in a couple of minutes, avoid blasts near the tank if you want to have 5 stars for half an hour or so, also avoid police cars hiting the tank or crushing over them, kill them before they come closer. And keep moving, some black SUVs have a SWAT bazooka man.

I know this isn't part of the subject but in gta 5 doesn't have good stealth cuz in gta online wen trying to steal your vehicle from the cops that impound it you get caught even when trying to be stealthy.
